Tailgate won't open? - RENAULT Laguna 3 - How to fix tailgate latch

  • If the tailgate on your car won't open the problem could be in a couple of things. In this video, we show how you can open the trunk door from the inside using just a screwdriver. Also, on our Renault Laguna 3, we inspected the latch, locking mechanism and actuator motor to see what can be broken and to prevent the tailgate from opening. You can see how some of these things can be tested so you don't replace the parts which are still working on your tailgate. Have you had similar problems? Tell us in a comment and share how you fixed it.

    Found your troubleshooting and disassembly guide. It is a little bit different on a Renault Megane though, there are 2 more T20 screws to unscrew beneath the corner surface panels before you can take of the big panel. So make sure not to try and remove it by force before unscrewing these. Anyway, this guide enabled me to troubleshoot and in my case everything checked out except for the actual trunk switch which is a normally open switch. When shorting the contacts in the connector itself using a bare wire, it popped open the trunk. Disassembled the switch and it had a bunch of water in it. I'm guessing condensation because the rubbers and case of the switch were all intact... Dried it completely, sanded off and cleaned the contact surfaces of the copper switch mechanism and it is now making proper contact and working again. I'm guessing it will last me at least several months if not years, if the switch casing really isn't damaged. Hope this explanation helps others as well if they are facing the same problem. Cheers.

It is nice when someone does so in order to make the life easier for someone who will face the same problem. We wish you to have no more problems with the switch and once again thanks for watching and sharing. Cheers.

    Great video, I do not have 12V on 1-2 pins of the car cable. On button press there is 1.5V on pins 1-3. Where should be the find this fuse and how to check cabling? I have Megane 2 2008, kombi/estate version.

    • @BbrosAuto
      @BbrosAuto  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, thank you. We haven't had an opportunity to do this on Megane 2, but we have found this fuse box diagram for Renault Megane 2 online and this is the link to it:
      fusesdiagram.com/renault/fuses-and-relay-renault-megane-2.html#:~:text=Power%20fuses%20under%20the%20hood,the%20Protection%20and%20Commutation%20Unit.
      Cabling you can check with a measuring instrument, which you already did, or you can look at the places where wires are connected and in places where wires are exposed to movements such as the place between the trunk door and the rest of the chassis. If there is an issue with wiring these are the places to look.
      Did you check the actuator motor, and which contacts on the connector are for bringing power to him?

      Yes James, one fuse is for all doors. Maybe the problem is in the wiring or reley.

    Vrlo precizno i jasno objašnjeno. Imam megana ali mi je baš pomoglo ovo, pogotovo oko elektronike. To jest, oko proveravanja brave. Sve kontakte na bravi i u prekidaču sam očistio i isprskao conatact klinerom. Ali problem i dalje postoji. Nije prekidač, to sam eliminisao. Ali kada spojim bravu na njen džek, čuje se manje više konstantno zujanje. Da li možda znate šta bi moglo biti dalje ? Verovatno nešto sa elektronikom.

    Nice video. At 03:30 you check the voltage in pins 3 and 4,correct? What should the voltage be in pins 1 and 2?

    • @BbrosAuto
      @BbrosAuto  Před 3 lety

      Thanks George. Yes, the way we are holding it in the video we can call them as you said. So there should be no voltage between 1 and 2 because these contacts are for indication if the door is open or closed. These two contacts are not connected to the actuator motor and they are not responsible for opening the door.

    • @GeoLumen
      @GeoLumen Před 3 lety

      @@BbrosAuto I am asking about the voltage because I have a Renault Megane III with a problematic tailgate latch and I am trying to figure out which side is which. In my case,when the trunk is open I have 12V in pins 1 and 2,and there is no voltage in pins 3 and 4. So maybe there should be voltage in pins 1 and 2 when the trunk is open(to indicate,as you said,if the door is open or not) and I should have voltage on pins 3 and 4 when I press the button?

    • @BbrosAuto
      @BbrosAuto  Před 3 lety

      Later in the video you can see we took it apart and test out which one is which. That way you can be sure which are the motor contacts and should have voltage.

      @@AlexandruHasegan Finally I found some time to pop out the switch and I've found it was full of black liquid, probably dirty water. Not sure how it got in there though, maybe the switch was not seated properly because it has a rubber part that should seal the bottom part of the switch when seated correctly. I've cleaned insides and added some lithium grease to rubber to hopefully help to seal it moving forward.
      Dirty water could cause low resistance between switch contacts (occasional ghost clicking).
