In this video, we go over 7 different things to do in San Juan La Laguna! San Juan is a small and extremely colorful town in Lake Atitlan Guatemala. We first got breakfast at Las Maria's, explored the art museums, chilled on the dock, shopped for handmade goods, and went to the Mirador Kaqasiiwaan. For amost a century big world producer of gold, silver , jade, etc. The Malvinas belong to Argentina 🇦🇷 and Belice belongs to Guatemala 🇬🇹 the land of the great Jacobo Arbenz , Miguel Angel Asturias (Noble Literature Prize and Lenin Prize) and Kjell Eugenio Laugerud the last Guatemalan who kept the Guatemalan currency the Quetzal paired with the French Franc and the US dollar. We stayed 2 months in San Juan. Nice place to lay in a hammock each day or walk around to the markets.

Seems like high temps are in the 70s every day ? We are not crazy about hot weather so it kind of looks perfect.
The heat was not overbearing at all! The lake is nice and cool also so in case it’s warm you can dip into the water 🥰

We will have maybe 20 cities to check out. It will take us maybe 4-5 years…just a guess.
If we still feel like traveling, Lidia would like to bounce around SE Asia for a few years. We even toy with the idea of a few stops in Eastern Europe, but we’ll reassess once we complete our Latin American tour ! 😃 This is what we think retirement should be like !
That definitely IS what retirement should look like 🥰 wowza! Y’all are big travellers. Have you found any places you really love yet? And definitely should visit Europe too! We haven’t been to Eastern Europe yet but can’t wait soon. There are just too many cool places to travel to hahahaha 😂

This is actually our first stop….Lidia’s home country. We retired 4 months ago and came here right away. Her Mom has her 90th birthday in November and she’ll get to spend time with family til February.

Do you need a full day to tour this town or just a few hours?
Great question! You can definitely do San Juan in a few hours if you are in a rush because it is a small area. However if you have time and want to go at a slow pace a relax, a whole day would be good. They have a lot of places to lounge and eat food and explore. We hope you enjoy San Juan, it is beautiful! 🤗

Is it possible to hire a local guide?
There are tour agencies like Trip Advisor that can take you to the different towns however we just went and did everything on our own and had a wonderful time so it is up to you! Let us know if you have any other questions and thanks for the watch!🥰

Happy to help!! :) Haha, yeah. Spanish will definitely help you. Italki.com is a website we use to pay for hourly lessons to speak with a native speaker on zoom and it is the BOMB! Literally the fastest way to practice speaking a language. You could ask your teacher to specifically help you with conversations you anticipate having in Guatemala too. Either way, you'll be fine 🥰
