  • I'm a quant trader working at a hedge fund. Hedge funds are wrapped up in mystery, but this video goes through a normal, full day of remote work (WFH) in my apartment. Like many others, due to the COVID pandemic, I've been working from home in quarantine. I show my work from home routine, remote workstation / setup, and the type of tasks I work on throughout the day! Thank you for watching :)

    How do these quant hedge funds protect their intellectual property from engineers who quit the company? Like I want to hire engineers but I also don't want to let them steal my intellectual property. And as you're aware, most algorithms especially in the trading realm is not patentable.

    • @KoreanYuppie
      @KoreanYuppie  Před 3 lety +16

      1. Compartmentalize teams so that each team doesn’t know much about how things work outside of their domain. Not every firm does this - some well known quant shops are known for this.
      2. Long non-competes and litigation. Employees are not permitted (by their contract) to work in the same type of firm for X number of years after leaving. Some firms are very eager in suing former employees and the companies which poach said employees.
      3. Golden handcuffs. It is the best interest of hedge funds to keep performant employees happy - and lavish large compensation packages to prevent them from leaving.
      Ultimately information leakage happens. Strategies and ideas that were cutting edge often become public knowledge (and less profitable as you lose the edge over the rest of the market). Two Sigma’s use of satellite imagery to track customer behavior is a classic example of a once-novel idea that’s now commonplace.

    As a quant traders are you actually determining when to open/close positions for profitable opportunities or is your role more about monitoring trading algorithms to make sure they are efficiently working? How much freedom do you have in coming up with your own strategy to manage portfolios with firm capital? I am trying to determine whether the skills I have gained by retail trading would overlap into a quant position. I have a Finance background but little knowledge in CS. Currently trying to pick up coding. Which language would you say is best for a quant?

    • @KoreanYuppie
      @KoreanYuppie  Před 3 lety +7

      Varies team to team and firm to firm. Quant PMs and senior traders probably have the most discretion on what to trade and have the most skin in the game. Some firms assign you to specific markets and you’re restricted to those (eg Citadel). Others don’t care what you trade as long as it makes money. Python and C++ are good places to start.

    • @KoreanYuppie

      Higher but more volatile earnings potential for trading over research. Depends on the school / program. Some universities w FE masters have strong funnels into quant roles. Most experienced traders like Mr Elvis Hercules, would prefer to get the proper skills to analyze price charts in order to make their own trading decisions, but many traders, especially amateur traders, are still wondering really whether they accelerate their successful trading using only signaling services, don't get me wrong. Signals are good, especially if you find the right one, but it would also be wise if traders can analyze price charts positively and accurately and good trading results. If we take a close look at some of the main reasons people cannot make money investing / trading online. whether it is trading stocks, binary options, forex or cryptocurrencies, you will find that the problem is that traders are lazy and too dependent signaling services, and also do not understand the trade before starting it. So just in case it is best if traders, especially those who are still learning and practicing trading, should know these tips before entering any online investment scheme: 1. Use a signaling service. ... 2. Learn to use technical indicators. . 3. Trade stocks before trading binary options trading security. .. 5. Buy options of the right length for your trading style. For additional tips and trading strategies that can bring you $ 20-40 thousand per 4. Track your performance for each option month, contact him by mail, as He is ready to show interested traders, both beginners and professionals, how to trade with confidence and achieve success. .. and amateurs how to trade confidently and make good profits using strategies that fetches $ 20k$ 60k per month.
