I operate a movie theater that employs mostly high school teenagers . When they start, most have never picked up a broom in their lives and lack other simple skills. This video is now part of my "Day 1: Common Tasks For Your New Life As A Wage Slave". Many thanks to those who made this.
🤣😂🤣you are a good kind boss who teaches not only about the finite but the infinite .
What an amazing life to live
I saw this video 10 years ago and I have applied it to many different parts of my life over the years. Drastically improved the overall quality of my life in hindsight. I came back to say thank you.
I still come back to this video whenever I need to sweep the house. It's so good...
instructions not clear, house on fire
How? Did you fart on a flame while sweeping or something?
I have been frustrated with contour irregularities my entire adult life. What a wonderful piece.
Ditto.
I’m a landscape gardener, so often raking large expanses of lawn etc.
I prefer to rake a line, swap hands and rake back along the line. This evens the muscles used so reduces exhaustion. I’m normally raking leaves/debris into garden beds, so no need for picking up a pile, which invariably leaves residue.
Why does this make sweeping look so cool?
So you dont have to wreayabout it
Sweeping is amazing.
Sweeping is serious business.
There is better method to sweeping a space "especially an extra large or studio space." The method is to start on the outside perimeter and sweep inwards making a large circle around the room... gradually making the circle smaller and pushing debris into one pile at the center of the room. If there's a large volume of debris in the room, you can divide the room into smaller quadrants. This method allows for the least amount of wasted steps while sweeping such a large area.
ALSO it reduces the amount of sweeping up the last bits of dirt from the pile. 80% of the work of dustpan-ing a pile of dirt is in the last 20% of dirt. Better to cofine that work to one large pile rather than several smaller piles
Also, use a 18" or 36" push broom, or even better a dust mop. I'm not a janitor by trade.
Thank you for sayin that: I was thinking the same thing. The video is very cool (as always) but I m strongly against this _random_ approach
How come you know so much about sweeping? Genuinely asking.
@@Dufffaaa93 He got his masters in sweeping at Cal Tech
Use a vacuum.
This might be the greatest video on the web.
All I wanted was to learn a new guitar technique. I left with crippling depression.
only sachs can make me watch a video about sweeping
I'm only watching this as a punishment
Nerissa Martinez same lol
Nerissa Martinez me to

Step dad told me to watch this while my step brother and sister ruining my kd in gta
Yeah
Sweeping is much more of an art than is described here.
i just knolled the shit out of my desk while watching this
Inefficient, yet artful.
My toddler loved this. Can you make one for every household chore? Maybe a pean to the courage and endurance needed to sit still for a haircut or face wiping?
You might want to invest into a push broom :)
These video's are so strange, I love it!
that's so uncannily satisfying.
I’m Tom Sachs,
and this is my Masterclass
this video is amazing.
This video was dope 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you very informative.
I just bought a vacuum cleaner; but I still prefer my beloved broom, and I use it whenever it is appropriate.
This particular spirited man learned how to sweep today.
Considering they show and perform in the same art galleries in New York and have been at the Whitney Gala together; I would imagine Tom just asked him during one of those occasions.
this helped me alottttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
@tomsachsmovies amazing video, what is the music, reminds me of Philip Glass?
This is actually really really funny
I think people nay be missing a really big message hidden in this video. People always seem to be way to literal and especially when your watching a vid that mixes technical info with art. Look for the allegoric aspect in both the narration and the filming. There is a little more there than meets the eye.
Oh, wise one, is it "a really big message" that we are missing or is it "a little bit" that our eyes are not seeing?
@@BelleOmbreGrey 3 years later and this wonderful video on the simple task of sweeping still has meaning in how one can manage the task of life. I’m not as wise as I thought I was 3 years ago, but I would guess the answer is Both and Neither. When life gets so very confusing and overwhelming, I watch this video and somehow life gets just a “little bit” simpler. I’m glad Tom made it. It is incredibly entertaining and informative. Thank you, PureHeart for making me revisit one of my all time favorites.
each stroke should be more effective than the stroke that came before it...

THIS IS ART!??????!
thats so like the O&T manual of McDonalds.. i remembered they even have a section in the manual about mopping the floor
TW200!!! ftw!!!! also great video!
i just want to learn how to do that background song.
Thanķs
that is an AWESOME warehouse.
It's probably just coincidence but at 3:09 the light from the windows looks almost like some binary code.
I thought the same thing!
It actually says “plant trees” in binary. Don’t ask me what I do in my spare time…
ty :)
Use a push broom.
Just give me more shots of those Mars Yards...
Why is the number 2 (or 34) repeated over and over in binary on the floor?
shape of the windows
Someone please tell me what and where is this space?
following
It looks like the park avenue armory in nyc. I think that's where Tom Sachs' Mars show was.
that was beautiful :')
This is the video i reference when someone asks who is Tom Sachs
Get a Shop-Vac. A nice little 9 gallon 4.25 peak horsepower.
nice
Who composed the score?
Wtf, where the heck is he? Wasn’t expecting the space to be so big
The background music tho, its spooky
Looks like it's sweeping time
y dont u use a swiffer?
mitsovios rex - or a DustBuster?
Me at 3.11, thats a big room u gonna sweep
Here before future Spirited Man stans realize who directed this.
Yeah no Stans here
Where's the part where I learn the guitar thing

why are they always wearing NASA stuff in all of their videos?
Liam Murphy Cause NASA is awesome
Because nasa was one of there projects
+Liam Murphy The are NASA.
Whats with the NASA on everything?
pietzeekoe hey
Sweep out the sides and nooks and crannies first while forming all debris in a line. Then just sweep the line into a pile then dispose of. Much more efficient
I guess I will subscribe Incase she does something interesting
#makecaseygreatagain
Tell Van to make a Vlog channel.
Wut Nikes are they tho?
Dwayne Coleman im curious also
Mars Yard Shoe
sounds a bit like the music from the Spider-Man moving

Making the trivial seem profound and passing it off as art ?
Black Rook in Rainy Weather.
On the stiff twig up there
Hunches a wet black rook
Arranging and rearranging its feathers in the rain.
I do not expect a miracle
Or an accident
To set the sight on fire
In my eye, not seek
Any more in the desultory weather some design,
But let spotted leaves fall as they fall,
Without ceremony, or portent.
Although, I admit, I desire,
Occasionally, some backtalk
From the mute sky, I can't honestly complain:
A certain minor light may still
Leap incandescent
Out of the kitchen table or chair
As if a celestial burning took
Possession of the most obtuse objects now and then ---
Thus hallowing an interval
Otherwise inconsequent
By bestowing largesse, honor,
One might say love. At any rate, I now walk
Wary (for it could happen
Even in this dull, ruinous landscape); sceptical,
Yet politic; ignorant
Of whatever angel may choose to flare
Suddenly at my elbow. I only know that a rook
Ordering its black feathers can so shine
As to seize my senses, haul
My eyelids up, and grant
A brief respite from fear
Of total neutrality. With luck,
Trekking stubborn through this season
Of fatigue, I shall
Patch together a content
Of sorts. Miracles occur,
If you care to call those spasmodic
Tricks of radiance miracles. The wait's begun again,
The long wait for the angel.
For that rare, random descent.
this is important if vacume just broke and people coming over,,,,
ALWAYS BE KNOLLING.
i dont understand
Why
I just want to win the All Valley Karate Tournament, this is not helping me...
The true way to properly sweep, take a broom and throw it away, next get a shop vac and git r dun! And for such a large space a leaf blower would help to cut down on gathering the debris, that broom could only gather dust if you spray it with 3m adhesive anyways
stupid auto correct I mean movie not moving
what the hell is this
art?
@@bok.. yes sir
As a flooring installer, i shame you for your choice of broom. Technically it's lack of bristle volume. Garbage....therefore a waste of time to even sweep.
it works it works the thumbs down button works
-_- "foxtail"
What? That's what that brush is called.
Step 1. Get a better broom.
who else is watching this just to make an account?
Who’s here bcus your mom makes fun of you for cleaning the floor? No just me? Okay
A.Y.F.K.M!!?
Mars yards are trashed nooooooooo
I am watching this, cuz my boyfriend thinks I am doing it wrong.
I randomly clicked on this video.
Me to. I regret it.
I sort but I I think you should do better
Using an old broom for a room like that is a punishment, not an accomplishment.
* Get the right tool for the scope of the job. I recommend starting with a low power leaf blower for a room like that.
* work parallel to the slats in order to lift debris from between them, rather than use the cracks to hide your shame.
* work in the direction of gravity. Ceilings before walls before tables before floors.
Even a low power blower would only succeed in gathering the heavier objects, and creating a giant dust cloud. I work in a carpentry shop and I very much appreciate a labourer that can sweep quickly without making me breath everything that was on the floor.
I'm not going to be able to get to the wall or the same as a you can put
Leaf blowers are too noisy.
A great soundtrack for this clip: czcams.com/video/lRG3R2FmGlY/video.html
