      No way! Money is a very taboo and confusing topic, especially in the US. We've sort of collectively decided it's inappropriate to discuss, but that leaves a lot of people with a lot of questions and little sense of what is a good way to handle finances. I think it's totally natural to want to know more about how other people handle finances!

      DiscoFalcon well it didn’t say exactly how long she’s been in her career, unless I missed it, and given that most people have less than $1000 saved at all based on a google search...she’s doing better than most.

    • @arib4118
      @arib4118 Před 6 lety +17

      DiscoFalcon and I definitely agree with living beyond their means for appearances but she is saving something. Most people aren’t saving anything and just live check to check spending just cause it’s there. It’s the principle behind having a budget and something to show for it is what I mainly got out of this video. People are in shock and awe because it seems like a lot, but with an almost $100k salary, she should technically have like $20k saved per year. And she has almost $150k. Either she has been doing it a while or had savings prior to her job as a producer.

      Sirajdine Cherif you don’t have to have a large sum to invest. You can start small, when I had my job I put like $100 a month into an IRA. I’m only 21, but you have to start somewhere. Take like 15-20% of whatever you make and put that towards retirement 🤷🏻‍♂️ more if you’re expecting old age to cost more. Which by the time we retire health care is going to be ridiculous.

    For all of the disheartened people seeing this woman's savings, just keep in mind:
    She is 40 and clearly has no children, since she says she has a fiancé. And based on her purchases, she spends nothing on children. So definitely don't get immediately worked up comparing your own savings to hers, but certainly try to achieve something better than what you already have. If you're in college, just don't choose a stupid major and you'll be alright!

      dragonnelite The argument generally is that if you are dating someone with a much higher salary then their standard of living is often higher too. By living together it is likely that a compromise by one person for the living standard will occur. It then comes the question that is it fair to have the lower earner paying half for something that comes at a higher price for them. It means that they’ll have to put a bigger % of their income towards living costs, have less disposable income, less savings and will struggle to keep up with any other spendings their partner may like (eating out, holidays, etc.).
      Obviously if you’ve only been dating a few months split it in half. But if you’re 10 years into a relationship a split via income may ease pressure off the lower income earner.

    I see lots of people saying how she has a great relationship with money etc etc.....and although I agree that she probably does better with money than the average American.....and I don't mean to be the only negative Nancy here but my thoughts were : WOW, How do you make 95k a year and only save 500$ a month??? Not sure if it's the newyork location or her lifestyle or what (her regular bills didn't look that expensive, so doubtful), but I'd be saving a lot more than that if I ever find myself making even close to that much, probably around 4x that much actually, and still live comfortably. Call me cheap, but I see lots of things that could've/should've been cheaper or cut out altogether. 81$ for Mexican for two????

      But her rent is only 1.5k a month.......not obscene at all......and as I've said before....her other bills are not obscene either....it seems to me as if most of her money goes towards casual and unnecessary spending......again....its her hard earned money to do as she pleases......and she does better with saving/investing than most if we're honest......but just saying if it were me, even with her rent/bills, I'd be able to save much more per month than she is.

    Its not about how much you make, but about how much you save!
    Learned this the hard year the first few years of being self-employed and selling on different marketplaces online. The money was rolling in but I was easily spending the same amount so it was going right back out.
    The older you get, hopefully the more wise you become and realize your needs versus wants. My relationship with money has definitely gotten better and budgeting and constantly checking your accounts helps a lot.
