Oh Aggers do stop it! Class
I love how high his voice goes when he wheezes out "hit a four".
I love it when people laugh uncontrollable, especially when they are trying not to. As a result I now have tears rolling down my face. Bless You Jonners & Aggers.
My favourite part is when Aggers tries to take over but just descends into a fit of giggling.
"Aggers,do stop it" Wonderful stuff.
I was working on a Building site in the Centre of London when this took place.....Eight of us working while the Radio was keeping us in touch with the Cricket......Every single one of us were in tears within no time at all. I can't listen to it, even after all these years without a Handkerchief at hand. It has to one of the funniest things ever.
"Aggers, for goodness' sake stop it!"
No matter how many times I hear this, it always leaves me with tears of laughter on my cheeks. I love the way Aggers tries to step in at 0:56 and lasts about a second before folding. Wonderful.
You said it! I feel exactly the same way.
And the crazy thing is that Aggers is still with us in 2022, still a cricket correspondent on Radio 4, and still sounds about 25. Every time he comes on I smile broadly, and mutter "Aggers, Johnners... Oh shut up Aggers!!"
I think everything was indeed utterly uncontrived, and that both of them should receive medals (posthumously, alas, in the case of one) for soldiering on in the face of what can only be described as (hilarious) great adversity.
Utterly and completely brilliant - you would have to have a heart of stone to listen to this and not crack up. It’s the way Jonners desperately tries to soldier on with his commentary, but then completely loses it
I just love how they slowly collapse into a mass of giggles and it just gets better and better
still so funny after all the years. just cheers me up so much
Even as an American who wouldn't have understood the original joke if it hadnt been explained to me, there something absolutely delightful and hilarious about listening to somebody trying to maintain their composure through giggles. Reminds me of Anderson Cooper's giggle fit a few years ago. Always a laugh.
This is just a legendary bit of broadcasting. When the other commentator tries to interject to help out, stammering "Lawrence" but then just completely loses it instantly absolutely slays me. Brilliant clip :)
This clip is perfect for when you are feeling a bit low. It's hard not to end up in tears laughing.
Quite lovely, TMS such a part of so many people's lives. Brian Johnston was a delightful man with a gentle self deprecating sense of humour....much missed
That's British humour for you. Never ceases to make me laugh. The perfect cure for when I feel down.
Absolutely love this. It's so infectious! Wonderful.
The little squeak at around 42 seconds is what does it for me. When i heard this the first time, I was in tears from laughter. Agnew is just a gem
Absolutely brilliant! I remember listening to it live, I was on the car park of the Co Op Cricket Club in Barrows Lane B'ham waiting for the rest of my team to arrive.
He knows uncontrollable giggles is inevitable but still tries to soldier on🤣
THIS would be one of my Desert Island Discs! And probably the one I'd rush to save from the waves. Impossible to listen without at least smiling. Infectious.
God bless him.
when I want a giggle I listen to this it never fails to make me laugh
I keep coming back to this when I need cheering up.
On my 'Desert Island Discs' list! I do miss 'Johnners'.
Quite joyful. Schoolboy humour has never left me. God Bless Johnners.
lol love when the other guy tries to rescue the situation and manages about 2 words before cracking up
Apparently Brian was mortified at his unprofessional behaviour and was really upset, until the next morning !
Once he found that everyone thought it was so funny, as did his bosses, he relaxed and laughed about it himself.I still miss him on TMS. RIP Brian
I just heard this on Radio 4s Desert Island Discs for the first time every with Aggers as a guest, and cried with laughter! Funny ;-)
Without doubt the best coverage on UK Radio ...EVER!!!!!!!!
HANDS UP ANYBODY THAT'S IN TEARS!!
Great to have it at decent volume and without added audience laughter. And with photos too. Thank you.
At last, a decent recording of this....always cracks me up.
Johnners was a legend, RIP.
Simply beautiful
how does one get back from this, SO FUNNY
Thank you so much for posting, it always makes me laugh.
Oh 'no such thing as a fish' has lead me to another jem
The best..miss that voice and humour!
absolutely brilliant! unforgettable..
A truely wonderful man. Thank you.
It's just so sweet and of course, inevitably, Johnners makes it through.
I was listening to this on my way to Bournemouth, I had to pull over until I could see again
It's the Muttley laugh that does it for me. :P
3-hour BBC Radio 4Extra special on Johnners (Jun-15) where this commentary is played twice. Brilliamt
Never fails to cheer me up, brilliant.
Classic l remember when this went out live :-)
TMS the best radio program ever.
This always cheers me up.
This is so FUNNY ............... tears rolling down my cheeks whilst sitting at my computer in sleepy Alderley Edge. Gud Luk, SuperNutkin
Best version I've found of this on youtube
“Fighting talk” brought me here and so glad they did, hilarious 😊
That's made my day, nothing reduces me to tears of laughter better
Classic clip. You can't help but crack up!
If you looked up 'funny' in the Oxford English Dictionary this would start playing 😆😆😆
Brilliant stuff
The funniest part is that so many poor motorists got caught in the hilarity of this mess that when they pulled their vehicles over to calm down, they caused massive traffic jams across the whole U.K.
There's nothing funnier than people trying not to laugh.
Awesome. I am crying with laughter,.
"Aggers, do stop it."
Still brilliant three decades on 😂😂😂 and both Bearders and Johnners along with CMJ are so sorely missed.
english cricket commentary is some of the finest
love Aggers coming on at 1:00 to rescue it, but making it worse.
This broadcast caused a 2 hour traffic jam because it made all the people listening to it on the way to work laugh so much.
Brilliant this!
That's the sound of British shock.
Love it!!
freaking legendary
54 extras!!
They just played this on radio Five Live tonight....hilarious!
Classic! Brian Johnston & Jonathan Agnew Test Match Special - 09/08/1991
Today I found out... tears ..lol.. so contagious
@jandr1ch The audience laughter was when it was shown in Sports Personality of the Year, but this clip is more satisfying like this.
Classic, but by your own admission, not an outake.
love it
Just magic!!!
Trying to comment on this TMS episode, but uncontrollable fits of laughter preventing any further comment.
Brian Johnson just the best.
Aggers....you legend!!!
This is the cure for depression. Thanks Johnners ... And Aggers.
Classic British humour.
Apparently traffic was backed up at a toll bridge for a while because people were just in their cars laughing at this on the radio.
I atill laugh every time I hear this. 😂😂😂
“Hit a four over the wicket keepers ....”
Truth be told: I'm alive. Very much so. :D And I can imagine Bradley Walsh really enjoying this clip and laughing non-stop as usual. Hehehehe
This is the funniest thing ever in the history of the world
R.I.P
I wonder if this is where the Python boys got the idea for weaponized jokes. If you need to debilitate someone for about a minute straight, this joke will do.
Whoever it was who disliked this obviously hasn't got their leg over recently.
and they were never allowed to commentate together again
The funniest thing is Aggers’ pathetic doomed attempt to pull a straight and take over
Classic stuff, so funny......
This is funny!
Brilliant 🤣🤣
Once a schoolboy, always a schoolboy
Holding hand up 🤣
No Such Thing As A Fish brought me here
😂😂😂
the slow but inevitable descent into anarchy is just fantastic lol
eatthisvr6 It's simply impossible not to laugh at this classic.
