I owned an SG Standard in 1969 with the Lyrachord tailpiece. Wish I had kept it. I did, however, buy one like this as I always liked playing the SG. The Epiphone G-400 is an awesome guitar a d so much less than its Gibson cousin.
The G-400 has the small pickguard, not the big bat looking one like this?
They're a heap better, change pups & better again.
Im a gibson fan and I love these.
I have an eliphone sg ...to think the sg was the replacment for the new type of les paul ..nothing changed in the electronics but the body itself changed the tone to a more mid bite attack wich goes to show its the shape and wood of the guitar that has the main effect on tone
The SG gives you a better sound than a telecaster!

I've had one for a couple of years now and it's been fantastic, I did have a little trouble with saddle rattle but a very cheap replacement bridge sorted it
I have the 61 standard in cherry, it's my every day play. Gonna put actives in it at some point haha.

I hate this "inspired" line because I think it means the phasing out of budget Gibson models. You used to be able to get specials and faded models at almost the same proce point.

Because the veneers are made from the best-looking woods. Because the appearance of the wood only matters on the surface, the woods with a grain that doesn't look as good can be used to create the body, with the better-looking woods veneered over that

I have that guitar, but I don't like how it's neck heavy.
You got a gd strap with suede backing, or rough leather? Helps mobs with neck dive.
@baabaabaa-yp2jh I have a good Gibson leather strap. My Les Paul has way better balance.

When l had an SG l bought a Planet Waves (l think) leather strap with suede on the underside...it helped...l mean when youre playing youre holding the neck anyway... I had one of those seatbelt web straps & it def dived then!
Most SGs have that problem.
I made a new electronics cover out of copper and replaced the plastic one; it helped a lot

I had an Epiphone G400 and it was the worst guitar ive ever owned, and i had a starter pack Squier Strat, and a Stagg guitar. They were also terrible, but better. I say this as an SG fan

Clickbait title i know, but having owned and played a ton of sg’s - Epiphone still doesn’t get anywhere near the full fat.
A big problem for me is the neck balance is all wrong, i’ve had some great epiphones (including some of the latest ones) but still (and disappointingly so) they aren’t in the same playing field.
Also - that laminate finish is UGLY
I always get epiphone because I’m to poor for Gibson

Gibson fans, hate that Epiphone? Gibson fans, are busy praising their Gibsons! For some unknown reason? Unless it was made before the Norlin era? Because ever since Gibson started trading hands, kinda like it continues to do, to this day, their guitars, may be kinda up & down, in QUALITY.
Great looking guitar. Hopefully when it grows up it will turn into a Telecaster...lol

I like C profiles....D profile keeps me away. I reshaped my Epi Casino Coupe neck because the D profile was unbearable. Hey Epiphone, stop with the D profiles...
The thing is: it's not only about you or your preferences
I get not liking a D neck profile. I actually love them a lot. It woukd be nice to see both offered as an option.
I had that problem with the slim taper D . After about a year I decided to call this a learning curve and practiced with these it just takes patience.
Those kluson (or Epiphone) deluxe tuners are trash
Many Epiphones come with Grover tuners now

"Real" Gibson? Gibson hasn't been providing that quality for a long time now and Epiphone as a brand is older. This is also well over a thousand USD less so it's a matter of what someone wants. Honestly, an LTD Viper is just one example of an arguably better SG-like guitar
