Christa Ludwig, a definitive mezzo taking on one of the great dramatic soprano roles as the FABERIN which she also sang in the opening
season of the NEW MET in 1966 with RYSANEK as the KAISERIN along with WALTER BERRY as BARAK and JAMES KING as der KAISER.
BRAVA CHRISTA LUDWIG - REST in PEACE, Wonderful Lady+. ---------- BERRY and LUDWIG were married at the time. I don't know exactly
    when they divorced.

Nothing more sublime in any opera I have ever been present for.

The CD does exist and was widely available in the US, for sure. Look for it on amazon.

I know that Ludwig and Berry made a recording of the this music during the days of LP but could never find it on CD but this appears to be a live performance. What a pity that there is not film of this or that one person is withholding release of the Metropolitan performance.

While this picture IS of Berry and Ludwig, it is most certainly is not from "Frau..."

I have the cd that davy 91101 talks about. It must be the recording, because Christa Ludwig sounds so much different that I almost wondered if it is really her singing on this clip. I heard her many times during this period in her career and the "architecture" of vocal placement was entirely different. I know that at one point, she went for the big stuff, but soon retreated to the mezzo roles of old after some vocal problems. None the less a great artist!! Check out Christine Brewer.

James Handel, 100% Ludwig, no question.
