This is a real thing, I was on the piss on my first year at uni and late night everything was closed except a McDonald's drive thru and we got turned away as we weren't in a car. So we came back pushing one of my mates in a shopping trolley and tried to argue that it was a vehicle. They gave us our order just to make us go away. Mission accomplished.
This scene is so much more awesome in the fact that it is one of the very few times that a character is nice to Larry and it doesn't end in a total clusterfuck. Frank Whaley is the man!
I disagree. I think if the person explained themselves, "they won't let me order food unless I'm in a car", Larry would think that was some kind of social injustice and agree to let the person in his car. Kinda like when that guy cut in line to get seconds. Larry interjected and made a huge deal out of how he was just getting seconds, so he shouldn't have to stand in line and wait.
He would let them in his car, but then argue with the cashier about the social injustice of turning people away because they aren't in a vehicle to the point where he gets refused service and the person argues with Larry about what just happened
For all Larry's neurosis he's not a shut-in, he will always get himself into situations with people, just to see what happens. He may not let them in the car but he might take their order and then relay it. And knowing Curb, the person in the drive thru would say wait a minute, are you ordering for that other guy? That's against our policy. And chaos ensues.
When i was younger me and my friend tried this at burger king it was the only place open and they said the same thing that you have to be in a car a guy and his girlfriend saw us and told us to get in the car and order with them we didnt sit and eat with them but basically the same situation
He probably has a fleet of seven cars parked in front of his mansion and the Ford is just one of them. I used to live near BH and that's how many of them like it: They've got their Maserati, their Bugatti so why not a pick up truck?
He was flat broke when Seinfeld started and even quit several times, he's not about the money at all. He has more than he could ever spend, curb isn't made for the money either.
pulakification Yea but the slow lane (dining room) was closed is the point.... Also, there was no line and I can walk 5 mph so I’m not even sure what you’re talking about
This exact situation happened to me, save the Pete (I nice lady just ordered for me instead, as I stood next to her car and walked beside it - it must have been quite a sight!). The best part was walking along with her to the window where they give out the food. The server had been the one to refuse my custom beforehand due to my lack of vehicle. The look of their face was worth any awkwardness.
Happened to me once. I was hitting a Taco Bell drive thru in my car late at night and saw a couple of Hindu or Pakistani truck drivers trying to order without their vehicle cause it was too big, obviously. They got turned away and asked me to buy them some food handing me the money after I got my order and was about to leave. Luckily there was no line, so I just drove around again and got their food. For some weird reason the Taco Bell employee got pissy with me and said he doesn't agree with what I did. I didn't ask why cause I didn't feel like having a drive thru argument, but now I wish I did. What is so wrong with buying food for hungry people??? It's not like I'm not allowed to order twice. Some weird people out there for sure.
me and my friends used to hail cabs to take us thru the drive thru back in scotland after a night out. sometimes the driver would be pissed off, other times hed accept, and a couple of times we bought him a burger. good times
Frank Whaley is a very good actor and underrated. He was in some good movies like Field of Dreams, Pulp Fiction and many others and held his own with Kevin Spacey in Swimming With Sharks 94. Likeable guy in real life too.
Yo dude this fucking video right here is classic I do this shit all the time ! It's a great tip if you out here in LA and you wanna get some Mickey's but they got them fuckin signs that says you gotta be in a car. Just ask a dude in the parking lot or in the drive thru
I was totally expecting it to get really weird at the end like the guy was going to ask him for sexual favors etc. that was a relief and actually nice ending
I was club hopping outside of Atlanta, I saw a Steak and Shake but on the drive thru was open, I walked up and ordered food. They gave it to me, I sat on a curb in the parking lot and one of the employees came out on break with a huge blunt and smoked me out.
@Dropkick Irish for one, I am not an idiot. Two, you are wrong. Do an IMDb search on this episode, "Lewis Needs a Kidney". Frank Whaley plays the character Peter Hagen. Mark Wahlberg is not in this episode.
I tried to go through the drive thru as a kid on my bike. McDonald's didn't serve me, but KFC did. I walked through a few drive thrus and most told me I couldn't be served if I wasn't in a car. But Sonic, Burger King and a few others did.
I went to jack in the box and asked for both of his suggestions. Lady never heard of them. Try searching "Asian Chicken salad". Also the Bacon Bacon cheeseburger is a Bacon Cheeseburger with bacon bits added to it.
Used to work at Mcdonalds. I think the management explained it was so people didn't get hit and then sue the company. The other reason I heard was so people couldn't jump into the restaurant and rob everyone (the window is always locked in between customers pulling up).
Ran into this at the bank during the height of the covid lunacy. I was on my bicycle and only the drive-up was open, and the teller told me she couldn't help me because it was a safety issue.
Haha I did this drunk at a tacobell with some friends, even airsquatting pretending to be in an invisible car. They didn't give a shit and let us order.

When the public was first aware of coronavirus I remember I was hungry and walking past a whataburger, the lobby was closed so I had to pay someone in a car to get me a burger
Last time I was visiting the USA, I flew down to Vegas for the first time. The airport was right across from Jack In The Box! Needless to say I checked into my room and made a b-line for Jack. I’m a sucker for a good burger. The Ultimate Cheeseburger was amazing! Here in Canada, we have Harvey’s which is pretty good. You folks down south have the following burgers which goes down easy, and my personal favourites. Not in order 1. Monster Thickburger (Hardee’s) 2. Super Sonic Double Cheeseburger (Sonic) 3. Big Buford (Checkers) 4. Ultimate Cheeseburger (JITB) Of course, I spend more time at the hotel gym working either of them off. It is so worth it….
i was at burger king last night and a guy was going through the drive thru line asking people to buy him a burger since they wouldnt let him order. I remembered this clip and HAD to help my fellow Larry!
This is not a joke, this actually happened to me. Had to check in to a hotel in a strange town due to flight cancellations, way past midnight. The only thing open was a McDonalds across the street from the hotel, and they wouldn't take my order as I was not in a car. Had to eat vending machine chips and a snickers bar that night. What trauma!!
Wow. Larry actually had a decent interaction with someone for once
Hammering Hank I was thinking the same thing.
Hammering Hank In typical Curb style that guys turns out to be a fugitive

There's a reason why it's called a DRIVE thru line.
i laughed so hard when he gets in the line

Larry lives in a mansion but drives a Ford Escape
not everyone needs a fancy vehicle.
That’s exactly why he lives in a mansion
I suppose it would be better to drive around in a high end vehicle and park it in the parking lot of the projects where you reside right?🤔
He probably has a fleet of seven cars parked in front of his mansion and the Ford is just one of them. I used to live near BH and that's how many of them like it: They've got their Maserati, their Bugatti so why not a pick up truck?

This is real, it’s f’n stupid. I tried to do this at the Wendy’s in Coco beach Florida and they wouldn’t serve me.
It’s hit or miss, most if not all places have a no pedestrians rule. Though it isn’t always enforced.
