Honestly, how does "owing" someone equate to promising marriage. So does that mean when someone mows your yard, picks up your mail, drives you around in their car, cooks for you, or even walks your dog or takes your trash cans in at night mean that you'll promise to marry them? Pfftt! Can't you help someone without expecting anything in return? Just being friendly or neighborly is its own reward. The fact that this wife has to contend with an upcoming future marriage of her husband to another concubine wife (and they just got married) would be too much to handle, and i have a strong stomach. Sometimes, it's best to marry someone who doesn't have status or wealth. It's not always a guarantee of a hapoy, monogamous marriage, but it's less likely that being a poor fishmonger's wife will need to deal with concubines since the hubby can't afford much anyway. That's just my opinion.

These dramas remind me of a high school friend. The 1st time I visited her home, it was a 3 floor building and she lived on the 2nd floor with her family. Somehow the convo came up and she told me her father has 2 other wives and family living in the other 2 floors, he spends 2 days each with the wives and children and then Sundays they all get together. I was dumbfounded! I asked if there was any problems and she said nope, everyone is happyas the father takes good care of all of them.
In most cultures, the husbands are allowed more than 1 wife. Also the wife sometimes choose the other wives. Even if the husband only "love" 1 of them, it's considered an insult if he doesn't "sleep" with the other wives. For a lot of cultures, society, families etc, it's considered a "merit" to have a bich on the outside. As much as the audience rant and rage, this also happens in Western culture. Lying cheating scumbags and their biches are mostly accepted and forgiven.
