Correction: That wrong firebrand & Athena was very Available in the past ver. of the game, it just it can be very difficult to unlock them because you had to go through Survival Mode, You Will Versus One of Them, and after defeating one of them.
Then you unlock one of them, depending on which one you were up against, but it was trial and error and wasn't the easiest thing in the world.
Now, in this re-release, they are automatically available for all to enjoy without going through the headache of trying to unlock them.
I'm not sure about you. But with Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui coming to Street Fighter 6, and this game getting a rerelease. I kinda feel like it is setting up a possible Capcom Versus SNK 3. But that's just me.
I think we're gonna get a snk vs Capcom 2 looks more than likely I think considering we got this
@@guitarheroaddict12 Honestly SNK deserves a second chance to make a proper SVC game. They were at the brink of bankruptcy in 2000 and they had to scramble whatever they can for this.
And guess who will be buying cvs2 if they do that? everyone. They just literally released a vs game so it'd be smart to assume the vs games will all coke back out. Maybe this a test

Great game. A lot less flashy than Capcom Vs SNK, but has its own vibe. My biggest issue with it was the kind of boring stages to fight on which are always deserted, with nothing going on.
I think I recall the setting of the game taking place in a post apocalyptic setting hence the deserted backgrounds.

Maybe the deserted and abandoned stages were a way to express the bankruptcy feeling... from the artists view(?). No, but really, I think maybe they wanted to do something like War Agony from Vampire Savior, which for me is a great stage, with the planes and everything.
@@UgoVite I think it was to get the game done cheaply. So, the storyline is an apocalypse setting to support the small budget, allowing barren backgrounds.

6:00 There were actually 4, Serious Mr. Karate and Shin Akuma were also unplayable in the Arcades. Its the home ports (AES, Xbox and PS2) that added an ability to play as them

SNK draw Capcom characters better than Capcom themself, especially animation. Just look at Chun-Li great -thighs- animation, Dhalsim's yoga dance+his shorts, Boxer's great idle animation+those muscle design, and many more.

Agreed! I love this game so much that I bought it for my AES back in 2010. As soon as I see this remaster drop, I'm buying it.
Addendum- I know it's not technically a remaster, but they have done so much to the visuals...I feel like it is.
I don't think mechanically this was a great game, especially considering that we got this after the far superior KOF 2002 and CVS2. SVC was rather janky in comparison. But I do have a soft spot for the game and played it a lot in the arcades back then. I still think SNK did a great job with the Capcom characters' sprites.

Capcom vs SNK 2 might be a fan favorite, but this game was a very underrated gem. If you were a huge fan of the KoF games and Fatal Fury, this game was the shit. I used to play this with my friends all the time via emulation before I was able to import a copy for PS2

Athena is from SNK's 1986 "Athena", and Red Arremer is from Capcom's 1985 Ghosts 'n Goblins. The more you know.
Athena is from "psycho soldier" I used to have it on the zx spectrum 128k

Athena and Red Armorer are both in the Xbox version, you need to unlocked them. Athena is from an NES game / KoF and the other from GnG and UMvC3
Remember the Athena from the NES game and the Athena from KOF games are not related even though both are by SNK. The Athena from the NES game is based on the Greek Goddess Athena and the Athena from KOF is a crossover character based on the Athena from an arcade game called Psycho Soldiers. In SvC Chaos, SNK included the Greek Goddess Athena and not the one from Psycho Soldiers/KOF.
The gargoyale is from demons crest and ghost n goblins
Capcom have approached SNK about the next fighting collection after Marvel. SNK have agreed, however they want to cash in on their own published games first. Thats why this exists.
Indeed, Red Arremer (aka Firebrand) is the red demon from the Ghosts 'n Goblins series.
He also has his own game demon's crest on Snes

I'm buying this game for both on Switch and PC.
It's EVO weekend and SNK has a better relationship with Capcom recently as SF6's Season 2 DLC characters include Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui.
SvC Chaos is also another hint that SNK wants a Capcom vs SNK 3, EVO 2023 went back to being a local event from covid and SNK artist made posters of SNK and Capcom fighters together with the caption, "Welcome Back!". It's believed if Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection sells exceptionally well, there might be a chance for a Marvel vs Capcom 4.
From what I've gathered: MVCFC has the most game reservations of the year 2024! If that's the case, then we are on the right track! Not to mention the possibility of SNK vs Capcom 3?!
This is not a Remastered, it's a 21 years old same port from PS2 ported to modern platforms.

Hell no, it doesn't suck. Unless you're playing on a Switch. Then I bet it's absolutely atrocious with its donkey water D-pad. I will be picking this up for our PS5.
Actually there are great 3rd party controllers for Switch with great d-pads. I use an 8bitdo adapter and play with an Xbox series controller. The ps5 dpad is total trash imo and all ps5 3rd party controllers are in the 200 dollar range so I will be getting it on Switch

I never got a chance to play this game. When I saw it was announced at EVO and became available on Steam I bought it immediately. Playing as Demetri in this game is awesome and I love the online gameplay. I've had my butt handed to me a few times but I've also won the majority of my matches. Having the practice mode and the hitboxes is such a great touch. While there are a few areas that I can see some flaws such as wiffs when I'm up close to an opponent, the game play is a lot of fun. My only gripe is the version of the arcade they used only allows 4 continues. I do hope they patch that and allow unlimited continues.
This rerelease also stripped some things that the home console versions had like survival mode. Also the Xbox version had a color edit mode for each character & the Steam release is missing these

I would also like to recommend to buy the re-released SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millenium, originally released on the NeoGeo Pocket.
My local arcade had this when I was in high school. I used to play this MvC1 and SC3 while I was waiting for Tekken 5 DR. Was a fun game I enjoyed it. Not sure if itll have a competitive revival

Gonna pick this up on my Ps5, I always loved the Capcom vs SNK games as much as the Marvel ones despite me being a huge Marvel fan. Vs Snk always was something crazy and special and I am so happy they are coming back. Heres hoping for No.2 to get released also.

i remember getting incredibly excited back when they ported the Neo Geo Pocket SNK vs Capcom game to switch and now having this one on there that i like even more for having mega man zero, Demitri from darkstalkers, and Tessa from red earth feels like a dream come true

This game made Shiki my all favorite fighting game character ever. Wish she was utilized more.
Not gonna lie, i like the roster of this game than CVS2. Why? It has many varieties of other franchise from each game and even for characters that needed the spotlight like Tessa, Zero, Mars People and original Athena (Than KOF's Athena). This game is a must have for hardcore fighters.

Remastered? Looks like a direct port. I've been playing this on my gaming tablet, gaming phone, and PC via emulation and the emulator has high quality graphics improvement.
It's weird how Capcom didn't added some of those goodies too this game. You can upscaled & stuff if you emulated it. It's a shame Capcom didn't put more work into this.

Goddess Athena was hailing from, well Athena for Arcades. Red Arremer hailed from basically every facet of the Ghosts and Goblins Franchise
Red Arremers were also in Gargoyle's Quest and Demon's Crest too those games were really cool

Hey dude I still have the PS2 and Xbox Classic with this game, and you can play with Athena and with the Firebrand (red evil), you only have to complete the Survival Mode but it is very dificult to do that 😅
Red Arremer and Goddess Athena were both unlocked through PS2/Xbox Survival Mode, however, who you got I believe was random between the 2.
One of the main reason why i never got into King Of Fighter or Samurai Showdown is, for so many years, SNK had lower FPS compared to Capcom's fighting games. Even Street Fighter 2 had better FPS. For that reason alone, Capcom vs SNK > SNK vs Capcom series.

@@PixelzNcreatureZWell, them (along with Serious Mr. Karate and Shin Akuma), weren’t normally playable in the Arcade version, they had to basically be hacked in, the other 8 hidden characters, were there but had to be activated via a cheat code.
@@PixelzNcreatureZ I never said it was hard, I was mentioning if you were playing at the Arcades or at Home (at the time), you wouldn’t normally access these characters.
@@AWMonopolyMan Even in the XBox port, you had to defeat them in Survival Mode in order to unlock them. Beating them is difficult enough, but I'm pretty sure they also showed up at random as well. I wasn't able to unlock them myself.

First time playing and getting into the series and the kof formula even though this is a little different im loving it it’s janky but still fun I guess due to the art style and characters im still a MvC2 gamer but this game oozes swag
I had the Japanese version for PS3 (was not available as a US version, maybe why it's not on Xbox now??) and I was underwhelmed by it. Capcom vs SNK series is just way better. I discovered all these games in the early 2000s.
Most of the SNK VS CAPCOM games have been released. The only ones they haven't are SNK VS CAPCOM Card fighters clash 2 which were DS games.

i have a ton of love for the "other" snk vs capcom game, but i'm going to pick this up for the pc/via steam and on switch for off line and local in person play... agreed about voting with your dollars and letting them know by the numbers. The only problem with this game is the "Guard Cancel Front Step", you can't touch other players and they will use it 😕

Guard Cancel Front Step is a core game mechanic. You cannot disable mechanics like these. If you don't want your opponent to do Guard Cancel Front Steps, you have many options like throwing (A+B for Front throw Or C+D for Back throw), Making the read (Or make a good guess) with Overheads or low attacks, or just use command grabs when possible. If you're always getting hit by Guard Cancel Front Steps, take it as a sign to stop mashing while your opponent is blocking and figure out different options to prevent them from using Guard Cancel Front Step.
Man, im so proud when i manage too beat this game when im still in 6th grade, Serious Mr.Karate is hell to face though i also fell the same way about Princess Athena until i learned her attack patterns.
Hi, what happened to all the unlocked characters off the bat? They are not unlocked at start}:-( the difficulty at 1 is terrible. The cpu is cheap as well.
On ps5 hit over certain characters L1 and it will reveal hidden characters

u can play this for free in pc, why on earth someone want to pay $$$ for switch is beyond my logic.
not sure if they fix the AI, if you learn every single character repeated movements, you can win this game perfect on hardest setting easily. Take Shin Akuma for example, if you use earth quake, by keep blowing fire, somehow Akuma will teleport to the fire and get burned. Repeat that move again and again and there you go, defeated shin akuma easily. no combo required.
CVS2 shit all over this back in the day. Capcom clearly made the better crossover. This game was just alright imo. CVS2 is timeless masterclass.

My favorite SVC chaos I like CVS but this is my favorite because I'm a big fan of snk games especially fighting games.

They covered up Mai and only showed a head portrait for Athena for the new art and added a trigger warning so fun fun censorship

7:40 No, there's no way. It looks the same as the og one. The filters are nice but this is a port of the arcade version not a remaster. If they updated the graphics 🤔 even if it was like BlazBlue for the 360 or ps3..that would be awesome. They need to add more people too if I'm going to buy this one. Because I already have the og one. Maybe when it's on sale; like Christmas deals 80% off.
