  • I unashamedly welcome sponsorship in the form of tools etc. with which I demonstrate the trickiest DIY repairs & mods.
2017March Update: The Chinese have now copied this idea (well done them) and put the resistor into a module that simply plugs into the air bag wire. Great idea! Remember your air bags will still go off in the event of an accident; this fix is merely a detection check to give franchised dealers more revenue.
I used a 3.3 ohm resistor (not 1.3 as stated in the video). Garages quoted between £500 & £2750 to repair this 'well known' fault, because all they want/can do is replace black boxes. Many will disagree but I care not for a safety system with dodgy wiring. To be fair, the once charged air bags could deploy [in the correct circumstances] despite dodgy wiring but I believe safety systems need to be built to mitigate failure completely.
Remember Safety squirrel fans, with this modification, the air bag deployment system remains as active as ever it was (given perhaps, the quality of electrical wiring). The air bags are deployed by a high pressure gas release on sensor assessed impact. My modification relates to 'air bag warning' systems which are designed to create a big revenue for franchised dealers. If this were not true then their wiring would be way better quality like it actually is in Japanese cars.
    TIPS:
Fold over and double the thickness of thin resistor wires in order to fit them ensuring electrical contact into a BT gel cable joiner.
If you are under police caution & court order not to communicate with me then you must stop reading now & stop looking at anything linked to me on the internet.
Some people can do things like this: fix air bags, repair air con systems, build a house, fix a bicycle or create a program or write a story & love their family. They are intelligent enough to be confident that they can succeed & make their own wind. Others, have to steal their income from the estate of a family that have treated them extremely generously.

Ra ek, just a quick one to say 'thank you'. I have a 54 plate Peugeot Partner that I was concerned was gonna fail the MOT on this issue. This really works. Top man.

The air bags are still charged but they do not trigger the ECU as open circuit. Typically, only the driver's side fails because of a conductivity failure in the cheap clock spring in the steering wheel. Otherwise, a similar fault is likely due to the cables under the seat being torn by movement/storage.

Hi thanks for the upload ..have just done that with my peugeot partner and it's works fine, used a 3.3 ohm resistor

    Maintenance History:
    50k new steering pump
50k new brake discs all round
50k smokey turbo but fixed by 3 rounds of additive, result (no further smoke until 75k)
75k steering pump leaks but Lucas Leak stop works
75k 5th gear fails (5th gear alone can be replaced in situ but parts expensive)
Big problem on these model is use of incorrect oil. Engine needs a turbo diesel oil Mobil 1 Turbo diesel provides noticeable running smoothness :-)

    Hi,
I did this modification on mine it is a:
    Peugeot 206 2004 model. The wires were coded 6501 & 6502 - and I used 3 x 10Ohm resistors in parallel to get the 3.333Ohms needed.
I've connected the 3.333 Ohm resistance between 6501 & 6502 and left the two spare ends disconnected.
    Is there any advice?
    ***EDIT***
I wondered overnight if I'd mistakenly taken the information to mean that the wiring numbering on your car was different to mine and so I went and chopped the 01 & 02 wires. I wondered you meant the 6538 & 6539 wires were the correct wires and NOT the 01 & 02.
So I dug into loom more and found 38 & 39!!!
I remade the original connections above and did the mod to the 38 & 39 wires.
Arghhhhhhhhhh I STILL have the airbag light.
The error code that came up originally was pointing to drivers airbag open circuit.... I'm going to have to take the airbag unit out and see if I can fix the clock spring...maybe then I can put the wiring back to normal....
    :(

If that car has 6538 & 6539 then those will be air bags. The index number isn't reused to different functions across the Citroen/Peugeot factories

how do you decommission the body system you mention at 1 min 16, do you mean take the battery cable off? Thanks

It would be much easier if you could show how you connect the resistor

Hi i have a Citroen saxo 1.1 and airbag message states the following:
Intermittent fault: airbag warning lamp short circuit to -ve or open circuit
    What could cause this? Thanks

Hi great video...thanks,i have the same problem, done all the underseat checks/connectors but airbag light stays on even after resseting.I have a 2005 berlingo dx was wondering if the same procedure would apply to mine as its a later model than yours.Any advice would be most welcome..cheers Barry.

Hi can you tell me if an airbag from a 1.6 diesel Citroen berlingo will fit into a 1.9 diesel berlingo. Thanks.

poor intermittently connected wiring; gel crimps properly used?

  • @TrailVapor
    @TrailVapor  Před 11 lety +1

If both models are pre 2007 then the air bag is interchangeable.

  • @TrailVapor

The resistor has two wires but has no polarity so it can be wired either end of +ve. The cable between the Air bag ECU and the airbag (numbers given in the video) needs to be cut but at a place that does not interfere with any cabling management (ie the orange block in the video) and then using BT gel cable fasteners join one cut end to any resistor end for both cut ends (you cut a single wire and get 2 cut ends). Kind regards derek

+derek goodwin Yes, the cables are imprinted I traced mine from the airbags & to the airbag ECU so itrs not too difficult to identify but I guess diffferent years/models might use different cable numbers If you find the cables with my numbers or the manual numbers that I mentioned then they''re going to be correct

You say 3.3 ohms but mention nothing about what watt it should be

    • @TrailVapor
      @TrailVapor  Před 8 lety

+burtie777 Watts are not relevant, The air bag ECU 'looks' for a resistance of 3.3ohm which it then presumes is an air bag present.
