While in NYC, I decided to play a few games of chess in Union Square Park and Washington Square. Had a few games against this guy (Snoop G).
Watch closely as he tries to use some sleight-of-hand on me!

I've got another one against another hustler which I may post if you guys enjoy this type of thing?
Chris Ramsay post it
this was awesome bro u should make more and i had an idea of what u can do but idk my idea was for u to do magic pranks on ppl
Chris Ramsay you're doing well at magic AND chess thanks to that deal with the devil. lmao
Post it.
Ya man! That was great!
"I almost had you...my time ran out."
No...no he didn't almost have you. He could have resigned after you captured his queen on move 15. :D
poor chessnetwork game probably made his head hurt.
Comment made me laugh. But yea, not everyone is a strong chess player and studies or has an advanced grasp of some of the concepts for playing better. I'm sure looking over the game, there's a bunch of better moves that we all saw, but, I think it's good that people are out there playing and having a good time.
Good job on the win Chris. Glad you were able to pull it off.
Thanks! I'm a magician but enjoy chess a lot. Obviously not a master but it was a bucketlist game no matter what!
Haha, yeah, but I guess there's always a chance for me to blunder! ;)
Notice me Jerry! I'm huge fan
I watched this whole thing...and I don't even know how to play chess
The Campfire LMAO same bro
Lol same
Same. Stayed for the music too 😂😂
Same🙄
Haha me too!
Dude was trying his best to act swaggy like he was vibing to his music 😂 he was nervous like 30 seconds in
just watched all 9 minutes of this at 5 AM.
I don't even fucking know how to play chess
Dovahbruh me too lmao
Dovahbruh I do that shit too when im baked as shit and tired
lol me too xD its 5:10 though
Dovahbruh 5:09 for me rn unreal
Dovahbruh same
Missed the mate at 4:08!! argh. This wasn't the best game of chess but so much fun.
I was about to comment this hahaha
fuck, you've already made a comment on that
Chris Ramsay Ok good... I thought so but I was thinking. "Am I not seeing something?"
I'm not seeing it. Can you explain :S
He had mate with Qxg6. Instead he optioned for Qe3+.
I'm so lost, couldn't Chris have won the game at 4:09 if he moved his queen to G6, captures the pawn and checkmate.
Yeah...not sure who is a hustler and who is a magician here....obvious checkmate
Well I assume timed games like this make this easier to not notice if you're focused on playing a different strategy fast

Missed the mate at 4:08!! argh. This wasn't the best game of chess but so much fun.
Glad i am not the only one noticing it.
At first I thought that but I thing mr hustle baby would have just ate up his queen with his king. To get out of check.
At least I think you can do that.
4:10 u missed mate in one 😣
But it's ok, cuz this was blitz
Instead of Qe3+ do Qxg6#
obvious miss checkmate. Embarrasing. blitz or no. you gotta score there.
Yea that was pretty bad
5:06 missed the Qf8 rook tactic as well, can't defend because rook on e1, bit tougher to spot than that mate in 1 haha
@@Blare731 6:49 rook takes knight as well. when king takes back you fork the king and bishop with Qf4
AH i'm not the only one who saw that. he had to think fast so it's okay but still
It's 1:30 in the morning and I'm watching people play chess......
Yeah its 2:20 now....
MrDaBoom48739 I'm watching netflix now lol
ǂƟƔȜɌǂ ǂĐƟϨΣǂ 2:45am
ǂƟƔȜɌǂ ǂĐƟϨΣǂ 3:40 for me bro
2:55 for me
Plot twist: the hustler was actually singing
lmao
For real?
It kinda looks like it at times
Dats wacist!
Stevie Wonder How???
Going back to the video that introduced me to your channel.. you had under 70k back then.. damn you blew up quick! Congrats
Nice inset video as a guide for us to see.
White could have had chekmate at 4:07 but went for check instead.
how?
how?
Q to G6 after the E6 to D5 capture. Queen would be protected by pawn and nothing could be brought in to defend the check to the immediate pieces or take the queen.
yeah i was looking at that too... tbought that was why he moved the bishop there and what he was setting up for, then he didn't take it.. lol.
Yeah I seen that too lol
I dont know whats going on, but this is intense.
Not so good Sk8r slight of hand
Grammar Police what even is a chess hustler
A hustle is when someone pretends to be bad at something so someone will bet against them, then they show off their real skill and best the person against them, winning money.
What this guy was most likely doing was letting people who are not that good win a few games, and then if someone bets against him, he plays for real and wins the money.
What he was doing in this particular video was sleight of hand to move pieces around to better positions. He would move fast and knock something over, and then when he went to put it back, he would change the space it was on originally, giving him better positioning.
Atticus Hirst someone who cheats in a game where a bet is on the line
+Atticus Hirst, here's what happened: Chris, the magician, moved his pawn to attack the opponent's king; the opponent tried to move his rook from the corner out to the other side of the board as if to attack Chris' king, but Chris pointed out, no, the opponent's king is already in check, thus he can't do that; *then,* the opponent "returned" the rook back to the "original" position -- except he *actually* put the rook one space *out* of the corner, on the same file as his king (protected from Chris' white queen by his black knight). Chris reached out and pushed his opponent's rook right on back into that corner! If he hadn't noticed, the opponent could've gained an "extra move" (getting his rook out *and* pulling his king back).
By the way, I don't like to assume ill intent, but 1. if he'd already shown the "hustling" by playing sloppily for free then killing on a bet (like +Kntrytnt defined), then evidence would already be against him ... and then 2. I can't help but notice that the opponent had a giant visible "oh, right, I see, whoops" moment when Chris pointed out the illegal rook move, *but* then acted like nothing happened when Chris reached out and moved that rook for him -- *almost* as if an act were prepared as a diversion in the first place, eh?
It went from "Which hand do I use?" to "This just got real."
This was the first video I seen by Chris Ramsey and its what introduced me and my brother to his channel. So many memories coming back with this video
the real question here is, what does being a magician have to do with anything?
Paul kjornrattanawanich 5real
good ass question
and one makes a mistake
because the other guy tried to pull a fast one him but it didn't work because magicians are familiar with misdirection.
mkygod when did this supposed fast one occur?
I totally imagine this music is what the black dudes listening to in his headphones.. lol.
nahhh it was: EVERYDAY IM HUSTLING HUSTLING !
Cory Day W lmao same
Darude-Sandstorm
me too actually it was my first thoughts
SAMMMEE
huge fan of chess - love seeing different people play out. I agree with the early checkmate but also in the long game was a free rook / bishop take at 5:06 - 5:08 with Queen to F8.
still awesome game
That was awesome dude! Great work.
6:20 Are you sure that was "sleight of hand" and not a legitimate error? Moving the rook to b8 does nothing to improve his position, and substantially harms it against a good player. Kb6 still falls to Qe3+ forking the bishop, and Kb4 falls to Ra4+ with many possibilities (e.g. if Kxb3, then Rb1 at least wins the knight and trades the rooks, which would not be possible with the rook at a8, though in fact mate is possible regardless, while if Kc5, Qe7 attacks the a7 pawn leading to a rook fork in two moves, which again would not be possible with the rook left on a8).
Sure, he won't expect people to see these combinations in blitz, and moving that quickly there is no chance he saw them himself either, but it's easy to see the move is useless without any analysis. Even if white follows up with a poor move, the rook on the b file gets black exactly nothing.
Finally found the song in the background! Experimental Electro 2 by Cospe - enjoy!
Amazing how everyone suddenly found the song after I posted it a week ago :P
Hehe. True. You gave me a great lead, but the song isn't "Vivid" as you wrote. They appear on the same album though.
Nah it's called Vivid, play.spotify.com/artist/43uhUaCqKQFm1Fo8V4EPCu I think you were looking at a video on youtube that uses the song, it's not actually called that. On the album I linked you the song is there.
Hm, on youtube, soundcloud and sonichits (where you also can se the full album) Vivid is a different track and Experimental Electro 2 is the track played in the background of this video. Either way, my point is that people won't find it on youtube if they search for "Vivid by Cospe", and as this video is posted on youtube people probably will search for it here, so no matter if it has a different title on Spotify, providing the correct title for youtube fills a function. Peace!
Erik Ahlbäck thank you Erik I only revisited this video to see if anyone had worked out what the song was cheerz
This is the first time I'm seeing this. I ended up here through a series of puzzle videos that I'm going to watch more of. Good stuff...probably magic ones too.
I honestly love playing these NYC chess guys. They actually know how to play and are a lot more fun than most people I know. Minus the tricks like that though
That “sleight of hand” wouldn’t actually benefit the hustler. Rook takes knight, king takes, then queen grabs the rook. Either it was an honest mistake or the guy screwed up cheating
or he was thinking in the moment about saving a move
There was no sleight of hand the dude just slipped up because he didn't realize he was in check -_-
I didn't think it was a sleight. There's no benefit it would have brought him
Umar Nasser yeah, agreed. This guy just seems like an honest player, who doesn't have the easiest life, looking for some fun and a chat on a Saturday afternoon with chess in the park. I really don't like how the op is slandering him and attacking his character. As if the guy needs to be brought down a peg or two...😕
Henz Sol he had head phones so he was prolly just looking for fun in the park. No chatting :)
The music made me stay to the bitter end...
Darrin Boust lmao same
NOPE, IT MADE MY EARS BLEED LIGETAMITELY
Do you know the name of the music?
This was the first video I ever watched from you. Didn't even know it. Wish I subscribed earlier on, great content Chris!!
4:08, if Chris had captured the g6 pawn that would've been checkmate
But if he did the I6 pawn could take his queen afterward
@@promethiamoore6462 Don't chessboards only go up to H? Plus there isn't any piece in his way that could take his queen if he moved to G6 from my knowledge
@DashCabahug lmaao
He could have definitely won. Don't know why the other dude was so chill.
4:00 thats already a mate if only her queen have taken the pawn near the opponents king
Well I didn't see any Magic or Hustling. So..........
The thing is, these Chess players are hella good. They pretend to be bad or do really shit, but they could easily beat most people. Keep in mind there is usually money involved. They act bad and when you get cocky and wager a lot, then they start getting serious.
You obviously don't know what gospel is
whats the song name?
mrJMAN17 you don't wanna owe me!
drawin code i already found it after i asked
Yes, post more. Loved it dude.
That was a good game! And I like how both players were respectful of each other.
I'm not sure calling an opponent a 'hustler' in a public video watched by thousands is really respectful.
The song it the background is "Experimental Electro 2 by Cospe". Please like so everyone can see :D
Daniel Magay Fucking garbage
love it
There was a checkmate available for white @4:05.
Queen takes pawn next to King.
100% correct - Didn't even see that!
Saw that as well and it's been awhile since I've played chess, thought he was going to go for it.
omeganism Yeah I saw it too
One of a few misses but for sure the most obvious. He seems pretty distracted.
Didn't know you played chess too. Mad respect. Subbed.
Subbed for the puzzle boxes, it’s great you play chess too didn’t even realize👌
My left ear enjoyed this video.
4:09 white could have played Dxg6 chackmate right?
Sergi Almarza Sillue I was just about to say that.
John Blackmore yeah how the hell did he miss that
Dude i thought that was his plan all along.. LOL
Nosaj yeah it certainly looked like it. The whole time i was thinking he had it alll planned from the start then he missed it and i thought I missed something. crazy.
he's a magician, not a chess player
Daamn, losing and trying dirty trick, good on ya Chris! Also impressed at your chess level, didn't know you played!
Great job bro!
Missed checkmate at 4:04
White Queen to G-6
I'm not sure I would even call that sleight of hand. I was expecting him to palm a piece while moving another, etc. Not just move the piece back minus a square.
Hell it could have been an honest mistake. Not a hustle
It was more like “distraction” rather than “slight of hand.”
TlalocW what he did was he moved a peice while in check
simon kim, what he was doing by placing the rook there was eliminating a future move by getting him out of starting position, and if memory serves, he now had backup to potentially walk a pawn..so while white would have started stealing, black could have made him trade his queen for a pawn or give him his queen back. I haven't looked back and thought it through, but I assumed instantly that's what he was on. not to mention that rook was dead there several times if he checked him by moving queen to hustlers bottom row..king was 2 spots from rook, had to move to 7 leaving rook dead. by sliding him over, he could defend with king as well.
yea baggy sleeves is an old hustler trick, best to play in the summer with a tank top. the chess hustler could get his own documentary, it is an interesting concept
Really enjoyed this
Thank you for the video! All of you friend are super awesome!
Who else saw the checkmate opportunity at 4:08 for white?
The Oxy Moron How was that a checkmate? sorry I'm not an expert lol
I saw that too
Yup...Qg6...checkmate. I saw that, too.
That's was super dope bro, keep it up
So many missed opportunities my head hurt after watching how it all came down to pawn play
Ye feel u
ok.
The music hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥
but he missed a checkmate... at exactly 4:08... why didn't he just take the adjacent pawn (to the black king) with the Queen...? checkmate... pawn covers queen, Queen covers pawn... was he trying to play with him or get a long game or something?
I think when you are clearly winning a game of chess (as this guy was) you often stop looking for efficiency, precision. and the "best" move. You just go through the motions and wait for your opponent to resign or you checkmate him - even if it wasn't the quickest checkmate. At some point your response to the criticism "You missed a checkmate" is "So what? What difference does it make?"
David Emerling well.. I suppose the objective is to win the game.. so when presented with an opportunity.. I'd have thought it would be considered a mistake not to take it, especially considering you may lose it at a later stage through bad play
I saw it as well. Was like wtf?
I disagree, I think that some games are so completely WON, that your brain can basically go into flat-line mode; because you realize that you no longer have to play with any precision. In fact, the game is so completely won that you could probably survive outright blunders. Knowing that, you tend to miss good moves. In the end, it hardly ever matters.
David Emerling sure maybe.. but surely that's not ideal...? you want to be able to maintain (idealy) your precision of play right through the game no??
where the fuck is the sleight-of-hand
Flavio Marchi when he try's to move his rook 1 square over at 6:20 is the sleight of hand, if he would have gone threw with that it could of changed the game up a lot.
Flavio Marchi when put the piece back down put it back one space over. not really slight of hand but still cheating
Ye cheating maybe, I thought sleight-of-hand is sth else
its sleight of hand because its supposed to look like he put it back but he didnt. in real terms that is sleight of hand but not as extreme as what youre thinking
let not accuse him of cheating, could've been a simple mistake
This has to be my favorite video!!!
8:50 we can hear the wild black goose
4:09 Mate in 1 with queen g6
SlicedBrain I noticed that to. It bothered me a bit when he didn't see it.
I thought I was missing something as to why he didn’t make that move!
petey0rhino I know ..I can tell the hustler would of been shocked
Can you explain this a little more. I️ve been trying to see what y’all are seeing and I just can’t find it.
Pause the video on minute 4:06 / 4:09 you´ll see its white to move, if the queen moves diagonally to take the pawn on the left of the black king (G file) that is the mate im talking about.
4.10-11 Queen takes pawn checkmate. Qxg6#
No. King takes Queen and he's lost his most versatile piece.
Queen is protected by the white pawn on the H file
NoTriangles yeah I saw that and I was wondering why he didn't just end it there
would've found this better if your timestamp were correct. it's actually at 4:08
I noticed that also. There are a few moments when I saw much better moves but when I play timed chess, I make stupid moves too.
check! "ooooh, I didnt saw it!"
-"Yea, thats whay I told you."
-"Okay, okay, lemme put that rook back where it was..." :)
I didn't like the way he lost his queen, I just saw life coming out of him
White played pretty decent in the opening and middle game. But I was horrified by his end game.
495? What rating system do you use?
i agreeee
The True Mouse hustlers play bad on purpose, until somebody bets against them. That's probably why he won.
UPDATE: True mouse was entirely accidental, LOL! and here people thought that it was like a secret hustler gang lol
Why is he “white”... oh nvm
When he declined checkmating black 4 minutes in, was that already the endgame then, since it SHOULD have been the end of the game?
I need another video of you playing chess! For me, that was really entertaining. Who else needs more of this?
lol at 4:08 you missed check mate xD but very well played bro, very well played, nice eye catch on the castle from b8 to a8, nice catch
Him at the end killed me lmao! I don't even play chess and that was stupidly entertaining!
Great video, but my left ear loved it a bit too much
JJRicks Studios like Christmas came early.. in your ear.
Like cumming in your ear. That's a thing that happens right?
bowl4two ever heard of a magical device called headphones?
You should have just taken his king when he missed your check right before the hustle.
Yeah, not used to playing "Street" chess. That wouldn't fly in a tournament.
In a tournament he would have had to resign immediately.
Chris Ramsay In prison that would have been a fight, immediately, lol
in Soviet Russia, ah forget it.
In a white collar suburban neighborhood household somebody woulda told someone's mommy and daddy.
Music just about put me to sleep i loved it
I never thought I'd enjoy watching a chess game so much.
the missed mates hurt my soul, but great vid
i would not call that slight of hand, more just correcting the mistake cause they are trying to race against the clock. He wasnt intentionally misdirecting him, he was announcing a check which needed to be answered right away otherwise that would have been game.
Maybe. Possible a sneak-move, though.
sure ill give it that, but i still wouldnt call it slight of hand in the end. Slight of hand involves intentionally misdirecting the target in order to secretly make a change. He was not intentionally misdirecting him, just announcing the check for the hustler to recognize. That being said, that was good on him to catch that and correct it before it becomes an issue later in the game.
grennysohail hey can you explain what he did wrong I'm confused and I really wanna know that would ve awesome thanks:)
DOnlyAgCreative at 6:15 white put black into check by pushing pawn. Black did not notice and moved rook. White pointed out check which means black could not move rook. In moving rook back, it was incorrectly placed on the B8 square instead of the A8 square where it started. Leaving rook on B8 is a much better square for black as it brings the rook into play for free.
JGeMcL thanks man! Now I get I !
Sweet ...I love Chess. Great speed and Moves 💪
This was so cool to watch
I've played my fair share of these games for money. They will hustle you by knocking over "accidentally" and placing it on a different place. I always make the deal of knocking over is losing the piece.
yea, saw in in multiple chess hustler videos
Hahaha, that's a good rule! I will remember that if I ever play a hustler. But then no, because they will always do some other cheating or just refuse to pay you.
Also, curious, what if he knocks over your piece?
Lose a piece. Wasn't that the rule?
Then he loses his piece that he was moving when yours was knocked over.
What if he was not moving a piece (yet)? Do they get to choose which piece to lose?
6:17 looks like an honest mistake to me. You should have said "check". He slightly shrugs his shoulders and opens his palm when he positions his rook, offerring for you to correct him.
That "sleight of hand" was actually worse for black. Consider for instance, ...Kb6 Rxa6 Kxa6 Qxb8.
After the dust clears, black has one bishop and two pawns against a rook and a queen.
What's a Creel? You don't have to say check tho
Chess ya gotta be seeing moves ahead, why I love the game. Thank you to who taught me when I was a kid. Can’t even remember who did my mum thought I should just learn it. Thank you mum.
Nice Scandinavian defense there. Perfect set up :')
He could have won at the 4:07 mark, queen kills pawn next to king, that would be checkmate
I was looking at that same move. I was like... Nooooooo! lol. To each their own when it comes to skill level.
nah, not how it works, atleast in the style they play cus the king woulda killed the queen, for it wasn't checkmate
King can't capture queen because the H pawn protects. It was mate in 1
Well if he did that then the white pawn would kill the king. It woulda been mate.
i dont get how he missed that
I loved that you caught that slight xD
I dont play chess anymore but love this vid
I want to see you actualy CM one of them
Gav Hern What was the sleight??? I did not see it!
Oh wait, I got it...
Finn Tuberz what was it?
at 6:16
Gorrest Fump The chess player purposefully moved the wrong figure. When he moved it back, he tried to leave on a better spot than what it was in before. Chris was glad to, literally, catch the sleight. Meaning he saw. Watch again carefully.
Ramsay the king!
watching the whole game without understanding even one move, chris ur fun to watch
That hustler was woeful at best. When I saw Be6, I thought it was part of the hustle. Turns out it was just a shit move.
4:09 if his queen would have taken the black pawn next to the king it would've been mate :P
Absolutely correct. Good Spot.
well play somtimes you dont see
This is giving me March Comes in Like a Lion feels.
I LOVE the idea of the city chess hustlers. So much so I use them in my DnD campaigns.
Ok CZcams I watched it. Now get out of my recommended.
Uh Oh Mario! who else supposed your photo as bristle?
Big Al Bag Daddy haha i relate
The struggle is real.
Ok, I CZcams I read his comment. Now get out of my social tab.
lol
The God-Emperor Of Mankind Should have done that months ago, now i keep watching these "hustler (not)" videos.
and would have been check mate if he took the pawn and queen protected by white pawn
same
4:07
Jakob Darrow exactly what I was thinking.
Yep same here just take the black pawn game over
exactly
fantastic to watch, GG
Clickbait worked but still. I was expecting him to pull out a piece or take an extra away in the middle game. Not mess up and get corrected and accidentally move his piece back to the wrong spot. And not a very favorable one for him at that.
If you've watched hustlers, that is what they do. They try to make an illegal move and then drop the piece back somewhere else close by...
Hey Chris, Got mad love for your work, I have a question, well more like a request . would you mind adding links to the sound tracks in your videos in the description , I really love the music you lay over the vids. still can't find the one you used for the cyclone video and I really need this one as well.
4:08 queen g6 missed check mate
Udarni Radnik im glad other people saw this, it was pissing me off
Udarni Radnik that was so obvious as well
Caught it too.
Udarni Radnik I
Alright Monday morning quarterbacks settle down.
6:21 I honestly did not caught that until I rewatch it like 3 times lol 😂
Perfect music.👌
4:08 Wait... If his Queen took the opposing pawn next to the king, wouldn't what be checkmate? Did I miss something??
Malicious Affection Yes it would have. I don't know why he didn't make that move? Probably worried about his time and didn't notice it.
Malicious Affection A mate-in-1 indeed.
no the kings couldve went one down to H-8 which was untouchable at that time
Ok, I don't keep up with the balance patches on chess or the intricacies of racial favor, but I'm fairly sure the black king can only move 1 space at a time.
oh yea that was my bad, im blind i thought he was on H-7 sorry for that
He couldve ended the game at 4:09 if he took the pawn next to the king with his queen.
Andy Sarmiento I thought that same thing... Queen is on blue, pawn is on white...
Nevermind.. you're right... he moved back to blue instead of ending the game... sorry
yeahhhh i yelled that one how can he not saw that one...
haha yea :D
Andy Sarmiento first thing I noticed watching this video maybe he was trying for a stalemate? he sacrificed alot of pieces not needing to
Ramsay had multiple mates he missed early on but still a fun watch :)
Nice job dude
Did he miss checkmate at 4:09? If your queen eats g6, it is protected by the pawn.
JT they missed alot of stuff lol
Friot Song if you miss that you are bad
Nice, you ripped off someone else's comment...
Actually, I play chess. I get several in my recommended feed. The title peaked my curiosity. I watched it. Saw the missed checkmate. Commented on it. Moved on.
John Salvatore... I did the exact same thing

I have watch this several time very cool.
Was fun too watch.
so practically you're a genius at everything Chris.
That is snoop. I know him. Anyone can beat him. Beat sammy or poe.
Jason Sykes With his name on the clock, then I know Snoop too.
why you always disrespecting snoop like that
The ad that played before this was Garry Kasparov teaches chess Masterclass.. I watched the hole thing... And it was interesting af....
wich hand shall I use! you really humbled that guy! nice one
