I'm planning to build two decks around my house and I've watched a lot of videos on construction and have visited some sites, DIY and otherwise. This has to be the top one for clarity because of three things: explanations were clear, the video was supportive of the explanations and you could hear the commentary. In other words you could HEAR and SEE it. As far as the contractors making criticism, I appreciated those who justified their attacks with--what we call--information. Most of the self- professed pros revealed an insecurity that betrayed a fear of the trend of people doing their own work. When that happens contractors understandably lose money. I hire contractors when its necessary, not when a "professional" wants me to. Keep making videos DreamCar. I'll watch.

You can modify your HVAC ductwork yourself. I would highly suggest that you do not repeat any of this persons work. And if you’re going to add a register, make sure that you do the math, because if you tie into a 4 inch duck work like this moron did you’re going to take away air that might be feeding to a second floor which would make that zone very uncomfortable and hard to control zone.
Yeah well you learned wrong because he used the wrong size duct and boot, plus tied into another run and that's not how you do this. Plus you have to make sure your furnace produces enough car's to handle the additional run. So no you cant and that's why these videos are crap because it's highly uneducated
If you are the homeowner, great job, especially if it passed inspection. But...If you're a contractor, I'd personally make you tear this out and rebuild the entire thing again on your time and dime.
honestly speaking every contractor will come behind every contractor and find something. every contractor does things just a tad different. finish results are the same. there's new construction that's inspected and also built wrong. We all can do better. no one is exempt

Thank you for this video! I think most ppl this day and time get too caught up in things they dont know and understand.First: This video was uploaded in 2013.... alot has changed since then! Second: Not every state( let alone a rural town or municipality ), has the same building codes. Lol! Our area just recently changed the code for putting a new septic tank in for any new home. when my children were very young, I got divorced and moved back to my hometown. I bought me a trailer to live in and resettle. I just ran septic lines into my parents existing lines, and hooked up my home to it! It was perfectly legal! Local codes here, are even different than in the city ( which is in a county of about 20,000 ppl total!).
NIce! Only things I would have done differently is space the heat vent off the header joist by 5" so when you put the wall in over it (3.5" + 0.5") it's spaced off the wall by 1", and tied into the heat duct so the splice T piece exits the source line horizontally, so the hot air is not forced down and then out. Pretty minor adjusts though, great job, thanks for sharing.
A WYE cut in horizontal would be good too. Also screwed in then tape. The flex should be zipped, screwed and then taped. Outer insulation rolled and zipped over that. That’s how we pros so it
Just as an additional piece of knowledge if anyone reads this. When you install the “insulated flex duct” there is panduit straps you can use instead of tape. It’s the same as a zip tie so it makes it tight and you don’t have to worry about your tape falling off after time
