My vent cover is metal? THANK YOU so much 👍 I've been in my home 50 yrs., I'm 76 woman and this is the FIRST time I've ever been able to remove the metal grate cover, unplug the fan, and cleaned the whole thing. The 'tip' of using rubber gloves was also very helpful to allow me to pull out the plug. WOW - Now, to get it back together. 💖 The last time it was cleaned (other than superficial thru the grate) was when my nephew painted my bathroom several years ago.

I kept noticing that the bathroom vent was dusty, and that would probably decrease its performance. I got around to it, and there weren't any screws like I was expecting. This video made everything clear, and I got it done no problem. Thank you. Also, it's good to know that dust could decrease the lifespan of the motor, that makes cleaning it more important than I thought.

But you neglected the fan blades. Loads of dust will accumulate on the blades due to the fact that the fan is exhausting moist air from the bathroom. This moist air combines with naturally occurring dust particles and then builds up on the fan blades. This will also prematurely shorten the life of the fan bushing. You need to remove that dust build up with a toothbrush or a cut down plastic putty knife.

Thanks for watching, that shouldn’t happen however not as uncommon as you think. We recommend inspecting exhaust-end where air is exhausted out of home.
It’s either on your roof or coming out the side of your siding near the bathroom window. Check to see if it is damaged in any way that is increasing the likelihood of water entering duct.

No problem taken off the cover and cleaning things, first vacuuming loose dust, then water and detergent and toothbrush and rinse and dry. Noticed some corrosion on springs as I took them out. Released them and slightly sanded them, then applied super-thin coat of WD40. I still can only get one of them in. Need some advice or trick!!!!! Those two springs back up into their respective slots is just about the hardest thing I've attempted recently. What am I doing wrong?.

These little clips can be a bit stubborn at times. Do you have a larger ladder that will allow you to get in a position where you can see clips going into slots as opposed to working from below?

I'm late in this reply but it's possible it was painted over so maybe run a box cutter around it, the area between the cover and the ceiling. to cut the paint in between
