Amazing, truly looks waterproof and tough enough to withstand some serious punishment. But I'm concerned about salt water. It's gonna be very interesting to see you fly it fully acro and dunk it in the ocean!

Alex did a great job with these. I think he has the market with out of the box waterproof. Now it won't matter if it is raining outside and you need your fix, lol.
Yeah brother that was completely crazy awesome video as always I have a Clock after that has the sensor in the bottom of it and it freaks out over water and then I just for fun rover mirror and it freaked out but yeah thanks for the video man awesome job

A quick tip to all those who might end up purchasing it and are into open ocean sailing is that you might want to add a waterproof gps tracker on this baby for retrieval when your flying far and away.
Could be great for rainy days. Even at heavy rain could works good. But the recorded video is great. Looks amazing good. (Y)

Hey Dustin. Great video as always. About the drone floating up off the bottom when upside down... I'm pretty sure that's from loosing signal (RSSI) and surfacing from buoyancy, then reconnecting. 2.4ghz doesn't do well through water.
Yes it looks like it disconnects at a few feet down and reconnects instantly when surfacing
A bottom sensing cam would work but I think the sonic sensor would burn out in water

If you put it upside down in the water and push up on the stick, would you have a controllable submarine ?
It looked like it in this video but only to a few feet then signal will drop
I'm curious how the signal is getting through the water. Both the Splash Drone that you reviewed several months ago and this one seem to have control while completely submerged. Is the signal analog? Do you lose video reception while under water? With all your RC subs they all had tethers. Is it a depth issue?
I'm curious as to why this drone seems to have a huge stability issue in terms of vertical and horizontal movement. I realize that the berometer is sealed and might have a hard time sending the correct pressure but it also seems to not be stable laterally either. Granted there are no ground sensors but I have other drones like the Yuneec Typhoon which done have ground sensors and they seem to be much more stable. The Splash Drone didn't seem to be that unstable.
The video did seem to be jitter free but it didn't seem to compensate for the banking much. Is the video more stabilized in lower resolutions?

The analog RF can penetrate about a foot or so underwater it seems. Well have to see how FPV does in the next test with goggles on. SwellPro has mentioned stability updates as this is still prototype.
I'll need to try more resolutions with video stabilization on for comparison. Most likely it will only work in 1080 or below resolution since it needs to crop the full 4K res to stabilize. 👍

Do you know if this made in the USA or China. The Splash Drone was made in China from what I understand.

@@DustinDunnill Thanks. Yeah an initial look at the Kickstarter makes it seem like it's made in Florida which is the USA distribution office of the Splash Drone if I'm not mistaken.

Would need to be smart glasses that can run the app like Epson bt300 or similar

The camera was nice and clear but didn't seem very stabilised maybe it only works at 1080p

I'd send it to Swellpro for service but if your good you could do it yourself.
does it have a hole for air flow? like all dji drones to make sure the processor doesn't heats up
not that i've seen, but there should be a aluminum plate on the bottom for cooling.
No, otherwise it wouldn't be waterproof. It's got a heatsink on bottom and has no where near as much processing to do as DJI which creates heat.

Just received mine. You keep talking about acro mode - is that the same as ATTI?
No, you can activate a switch position to full acro in the flight controller software at your own risk... I don't think Swellpro recommends it yet since firmware still needs tweaking to fly well in acro.
Wondering where the ocean footage is... did something happen to it in the pool?
I was waiting for the upgraded optical glass camera cover so it's not blurry under water. There are also some firmware updates since this video. Water did not get in iether. Ocean test soon 👍

Hi Dustin, another great review mate. I watched the previous unboxing as well. The one thing that will stop me buying one of these is the Camera. Even though it is 4K there is no mechanical or EIS stabilization. So for shooting video I honestly see this Quad as more of a Toy Grade over priced water proof unit to have a bit of fun with. Any Idea why Swell Pro Overlooked this? Otherwise she'd be right up there on my bucket list as I was really looking forward to its release. The Drone seems useless to those who wish to film with it especially equipped with 4K. Cheers
Thanks. It's supposed to have EIS but perhaps does not work at higher resolutions as most EIS drones only have it working in 1080 due the need to crop 4k. I'll be testing this in the next few review flights 👍. Keep in mind it's still a working prototype near final.

Im amazed that DJI haven’t brought out a waterproof drone. Imagine a Mavic Pro type waterproof drone, that would be awesome. Im sure the waterproofing coupled with gimbal is a hard nut to crack, but surely if anyone can do it they can. Hope they figure it out soon.

In the flight control ground station software you can program 1 toggle position for acro if they still have the software on the swellpro website.

When you go for the ocean test:
Race drone, so... speed test please! And can you do manual looping, flips and stuff in the air? Theoretically yes, I suppose, but can you? And how about if you splash it hard upside down into the water from like 30 meters high, is it still waterproof after such a hit? Now that's hammering. :)

The digital stabilization is really good. On the spark its really jerky, this you cant really tell its working, in a good way lol

Seriously though whilst the quad survives immersion but I'm not sure that the controller should be subjected regularly to more than really heavy rain. _I'm overly cautious at times_

Regarding the barometer being used for height control:
I don't know why the GPS signal couldn't also be used to track the altitude of the drone. If it can triangulate the 2d position of the drone within a foot or so, you would think those 12 or so satellites spanning the horizon could also be used to triangulate the altitude within a few feet.
It's not a dig at this drone in particular, but more of a trend with a lot of drones.
From experience I recall the Phantom uses the GPS for altitude and only uses the internal barometer exclusively when in ATTI mode.

that's not a "race" drone, swellpro drones are trash and that's coming from a technician that used to fix them. they're built cheap with cheap components and won't last.
Well mine is still kicking after all the abuse (rain, crashing) and a few ocean torture tests as well. Now the Spry+ has just arrived for review and we'll see how it's improved. I have yet to see something similar from anyone else also at least it's quite unique.
