My Grandfather was a First world war veteran.
He passed away in 1963, when I was just 8 years old.
My Father told me that the War was so bad that his father wouldn't talk about it.
Except for the part where they refused to kill their horses before leaving Turkey.
They were told to club them to death using sticks and rocks, so that the enemy wouldn't hear the muffled gunshots.
After WW1 was over, like years later; the statistics about the number of soldiers who "deserted" were
    made public.
Many Australians said to their commanders "You can shove this stupid war right up your Khyber Pass",
because they were told to advance straight into heavily defended places, and a stream of machine gun fire.
    One hundred percent casualties!
Many German soldiers and English soldiers said the same thing to their commanders too.
Before the war, all of the soldiers were told that "The Enemy" were doing terrible things,
so they had no qualms about enlisting, they were going to fight a "Just" war.
Almost all of the returned servicemen said that if they'd known how awful it was going to be,
they wouldn't have gone to war.
I don't think that things have changed much in over a hundred years.
It's always a shocking waste of human life.
The folks that start these wars deserve the first bullets that are fired.

My grandfather was also in the Great War. He was in an Australian light horse regiment at Beersheba - the last great cavalry charge in history. I never got to meet him as he died long before I came along in 1963. But my mother - God rest her soul - loved him dearly as he was extremely kind a real family man. And of course he did, what thousands of other young Australian men did at the time, enlisted and went off to fight the motherland, i.e. England. I think the French showed more appreciation than the Brits for all the Ozzies who fell and died on the western front in France and Belgium. The loss of so many young men was thr loss of a whole generation. And here are are 100 years later, still trying to solve differences with our neighbours by taking up arms and going to war against them. It always ends badly. Will humanity ever wake up???

All European countries have had a history of turmoil during the past 100 years or more but have managed to get their countries more or less "back to normal". People, I believe in you. Don't be sheep, in any country. There are two ways: you watch news critically, observing news in other countries to find the real truth, or not watching news entirely and watch things by yourself (most important you will know anyway, and perhaps your life will be a lot easier when you'll disable this hatred machine called "News")

      i think ukrainian soldiers died: 56 800 +-
      russian soldiers: 6 500 +-
This is if you collect information from various neutral sources, these are just approximate estimates, but the bottom line is, after the "second phase", the Russian troops almost stopped losing personnel and switched to defensive offensive tactics with the creation of fortifications and air superiority. At this rate, Ukrainian troops are doomed sooner or later.

@@user-lo1gt6dh6h With those numbers, those aren't neutral sources; this would basically be in line with russian claims so far, and their numbers are about as valid as the Ukrainians' numbers; the idea that any country can basically stop losing personnel in a conflict of such intensity is laughable, and I'm not sure how you could say that with a straight face.
From ACTUAL neutral sources, I'd place russian losses to somewhere between 15K to 20K so far, but yeah, Ukrainian losses are far greater, so 50K isn't a bad guess.
The problem for the russians is that their forces are only around 200K, not counting DPR and LPR and Wagner (their losses aren't included in russian losses, but as they're used as cannon fodder, their losses must be far, far greater), and a loss of around 10% KIA is catastrophic for an army efficiency; and that's before counting the wounded, which would be generally 3 times the KIA; half of which won't be able to return to combat.
This is why Putin signed the law increasing the age people could join the army to 50 years old, I think it was ? And facilitated the procedures for foreigners to join the army. It's because manpower is a serious problem.

Exactly why are we propping up the most corrupt European government who incorporated neo Nazis into their national guard and have been committing documented war crimes against civilians for 8 years in the Donbass. Even if we weren't a Republic and actually were a democracy exactly how can we afford over 50 billion dollars given to Ukraine and all time high fuel prices, food prices and inflation all because Biden wants to remove Putin from power. Yeah when there's 43K dead, the number of wounded is going to be very high, and those will be out of the fight just the same. When you lose 30% of your force you can no longer be on the offensive, only defend, and they're basically trying to storm a castle and to storm a castle you need a much larger fighting force than is protecting the castle, like double. It just takes far less to protect a city with defenses like Ukraine had already prepared.
In the U.S., the ratio of killed to wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan was something like 1:6. It's looking more like Vietnam with the numbers you posted, which are probably right. Vietnam had a 1:2.6 ration 43,000x2.6=111,800. That's interesting because of course America had such a hard time fighting that and basically the protests stopped it.

Ukrainian estimate of Russian losses is at 33 thousand as of today. Even if they exaggerated I would say it's probably at least 20 thousand. But it is also possible they don't exaggerate. And number of wounded are typically 2-3 times higher than number of killed.

My friend was already a contract soldier when the war started, he was a medic, but he was sent to the war as a sapper. Naturally, they should not fight unless martial law is imposed in the country, so they wrote a letter of resignation there, in Ukraine. There were about forty people with him, but he could only persuade a man who had a wife and recently had a child. The commander threatened them, said that they would be imprisoned according to the laws of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, that they would be imprisoned for life, but they did not want to fight and kill. As a result, their application for dismissal was not given, but they were sent to the rear of the troops, to people like them who refused to fight. Recently, news came from him - they were returned to Russia. We were very happy. And the commander and almost all of those who were with Rome, but went to fight- died. It's very hard. The last time the government said in March that 1,300 soldiers were killed in the first month, independent media collected data on 3,600 soldiers who were definitely killed by Russia.I am sure that at least 6 thousand people died, and maybe even 10 thousand.

And, secondly, the Western democracies must enter Ukraine and eliminate the Russian military that now occupies Ukraine. Then fortify that border starting at Finland as far South as Turkey.
