- Oh yeah, it's time to LOAD and TOW for proper lag in the downswing!
🔑🌪️ Milo's 5 KEYS to a Rotational Golf Swing: milolinesgolf.com/5-keys-to-u...
We get asked all the time, how do we create lag in the golf swing and my answer is always the same, it's a byproduct of good motion. For many of you, you are trying to create this dynamic purely with hands and arms, but to me there is more to creating lag. Henry joins me to look at how we can optimally create this matchup. We hope you enjoy!

I’m so happy I discovered Milo recently. Been obsessed with his content for about 2 weeks now and it’s already helped my golf swing tremendously.
As someone who has always struggled with an open face, over the top swing, it’s a real struggle for me to keep that face closed.
I definitely understand the concept now of extending my trail wrist with a slight bow to my right wrist. Unfortunately it’s so unnatural to me I have to almost force it. But when I’m able to do it I absolutely flush the ball.
I watch Milo so effortlessly extend that trail wrist that it happens so naturally with flow, that he’s able to just keep everything so loose and let the club release when it’s supposed to.
How do you get to the point of being able to keep everything so loose when it feels so backwards? It feels like I have to genuinely force my hands into that position which obviously destroys any sort of energy being released into the club.
Thanks for following along Alex! When first learning to hinge it may take some activation, but over time can be synced up with flow and less tension. Have you looked at joining my online academy where I could help you further? milolinesgolf.com
Very, very helpful. Saw this yesterday and rehearsed the towing feeling by putting a chord from left belt loop to hands so it was tight at the top. Then when squatting / squaring I kept hands back so the string stayed taught, then turned lower body and with bent right wrist the hands caught up to right knee / hip at impact. Used that feeling on the course today with great success! Thanks again!
Fantastic!
Definitely one of the best to watch for all those flippers out there ~ I really like the plane speaking explanation ~ having these keys for better golf 2023 👍👍
Glad you liked it Ben, thanks for following along!
I really enjoyed this video . Simple to understand what the goals are . Will certainly try to execute this
Wonderful! Let me know how it goes and if I can help any further, please do reach out or join my online academy at milolinesgolf.com.
Elegant simplicity!
Thank you! Cheers!
another outstanding fundamental golf. 👍 i also recommend previous video 'CLEAR your lead side in downswing ' 🧐 thank you

Very helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it Matt, thanks for watching!
Your point of view of lag as a result of good dynamics looks fully accurate.
Glad you agree and thanks for watching!
always makes it look so easy
Can be some times 😂
Love the shoes Milo. I use Xero and Vivobarefoot. When the course isn't wet I use the minimalist shoes. Helps me feel the ground better. - Joe C
Those and TRUE Linkswear which I swear by!
From this swing how do you make a draw and fade? Thanks very good video!
Alignments mostly. czcams.com/video/mPkFveViyWk/video.html
Great info, always refining the details for those of us trying to get the right feel
Thanks for watching!
Good video….
If you only ever tow the skier along, how do you “go after one”? What pop the extra pop into a shot?
Move the system faster.
Good morning gentlemen. In this video did Milo “turn the knob” or was there a preset at address that he took to the top. I’ve been studying your videos and am really not seeing the turning of the knob but rather seeing a preset condition through the entire swing. Please elaborate if you could. Thank you kindly.

In the video I preset the trail hinge and some supination but as you can see in my actual swing I’m supinating in transition to get the COM back to be able to deliver the club from the inside with some lean.
Is it identical with driver also, only with a positive angle of attack?
yes, more or less
Love it. A reminder to tow the club with a body "pull" (turn) and passive arms.
👊
Any advice for someone who had surgery on their trail wrist scaphoid and can only bend their wrist back about 40-45 degrees?
Assuming everything is healed correctly and you have the ok from your Dr to play sports, such as golf, then a static 45-degree extension-bend in your wrist is not uncommon - especially as we age. Most people can, under some soft loading (forced stretching) of the wrist, further extension-bend their wrist without any pain - with just a feeling of a stretch happening. One of the things you will see many long hitters do, and it was quickly mentioned in passing in this video, is a slight to sometimes more than slight, additional down-cock loading into further extension of the trail wrist during the transition when the weight of the club is used to load/stretch the trail wrist as a means to store additional power. If you watch some super, super slow-mo video of DJ, Cameron Champ, Morikawa (as 3 examples) Driver swings you will see this very clearly - i.e. as everything starts down in the transition, the club & hands kind of stay there for a tiny split second, as the right wrist loads, and at the same time the club is laid off/closed slightly (right hand is twisting clockwise/facing back to offset the right elbow which is firing). This is a down-cock loading to store additional load/power in the right wrist - and it is identical to what tennis players do during a looping tennis topspin forehand when they fire the right elbow to lead the loop but the right wrist goes in the other direction - and is similar to a baseball pitcher that does the same thing - their elbow leads but their throwing wrist is still going back and the leading elbow is used to further compress their wrist. Thus, an idea for you to think about is to NOT fully extend to 40-45% your trail wrist into extension at the top, but to feel a bit like Jon Rahm and have the feeling of only going to 35% - but then in transition, as you start down with your body and trail elbow, use that energy to down-cock load your trail wrist to 60% range of extension to store more power (i.e. what you see DJ, Champ and Morikawa do) - as well as everyone that throws a ball. This idea of not fulling extending in the backswing but using the transition to fully extend is a very common natural athletic idea that humans seem to innately understand - and it might very much help you provide additional natural stretch extension to your wrist that you say has less static extension range than you may have one time had - and you may find that it provides some truly magical free distance.
45° is not terrible mobility slightly limited so you may need to alter your alignment maybe play out of a slightly close stance in order to create optimal path
Thanks for the great video. I understand the motion relatively well and can implement it with most clubs, but driver. Any suggestions/ideas for why this may be? (BTW - Zach Allen, PGA, has a bunch of videos discussing how the image of a water ski boat changed his approach to the swing)
Hey Daniel, thanks for watching! I’d have to see your swing to give you the best feedback, but perhaps it’s because the driver swings is slightly different given the length of Club and the ball being on a tee. Have you looked into joining my online academy? Milolinesgolf.com
@@MiloLinesGolf thanks! I would happily join the academy if I knew I had time to take advantage of the content. Unfortunately I don’t. Your answer on length is in line with with what I thought, I think I now have a good idea of how to potentially address this. Thanks again and please continue with the great content.
I would love to send in my swing in slow motion and have you give me some feedback, or make a video for the channel with feedback. I’m a 6 handicap and have been working so hard for the past year specifically and still have so many parts to my swing that feel uncomfortable.
I have an online academy where we do exactly that. Every month members receive a free swing analysis. milolinesgolf.com
I agree with your thoughts on the body action, but you seem to underestimate how dynamic the internal/external shoulder and arm muscles have to be.Its like teaching a tennis serve with just ground pressure and body action. This is probably due to you playing and being good at baseball from a young age.Ive never played baseball but i can visualise a batters soft twirl of the arms as he gets ready to strike. Hes activating and preparing the muscles directly linked to the bat, because the secret of golf, baseball or any sport is athletic anticipation.
I think I understand what you’re saying but videos like this will never be able to perfectly explain what to do because everyone moves differently and applies feels differently. These are general ideas for us to apply, not personalized plans.
I feel confident saying Milo understands the role of the shoulders and if a student if his struggled in that domain he could assist.
@@96RHE Yes im not criticizing Milos thoughts and way of teaching the golf swing,Im a big fan. But its that a lot of great ball strikers arent aware of essential stuff, how they use their speed muscles because they learnt as a kid and/or developed them by being good at other sports ie baseball.
Good stuff gentlemen
Milo you always have this look where it seems like your eyes are leading your pivot around the corner….Duval-ish
Do you try to do that? Do you see the ball when you hit it? Hogan evidently didn’t see the ball.
I don’t recall ever seeing impact yet.
@@MiloLinesGolf interesting so your head keeps on turning with your body turn . To confirm you are not watching the ball on contact .
Mad respect for Milo
But that is about 45 degrees not 90
angle between lead arm at shaft face on?
Drop and drag
Haha not quite but we’ll keep the terms coming.
FLOAT loading.....do you like that term?
I don’t really want too much of the hinge happening in the downswing because it’s hard on the wrist. Float loading generally refers to the hinge happening in the transition and down swing
@@MiloLinesGolf Thanks for the reply.
I thought "float loading" was a late hinge in the takeaway, as you recenter, and allowing the club to set at the top as you begin to transition. Really like your teaching!
Major reasons the left hand varies so much 1 most with strong left hands learnt as weak young kids,2 most eg speith, with weak left hands are left handed playing right or immensely strong like rahm
Many different coaching styles and preferences as well.
@@MiloLinesGolf I learnt my grip from Hogans book, luckily im quite strong for my old age and the benefit of a neutral grip is hit it straight and on a good day can shape it both ways. But having learnt the hard way i would always a strongish left hand,at least get your thumb and heel to the right of/behind center/top of grip.Ive lost count of how many seniors and women have been taught thumb on top/center, no left side gos nowhere.Had a go in a swing room for 10 min, immediately added 3-5yds carry on my 7iron just by slightly strengthening my left hand.
why didnt you show the swing you made at the end from the face on view??
We do in other videos, missed this one, sorry.
is lag the wrong word. instuctors should be using the word "seperation" No?
Both are fine. I probably define those terms different than some coaches however. Especially lag as I employ right wrist extension.
So towing would be pulling with the left through impact
Here’s my previous video that could help further explain. czcams.com/video/HYvXv6pPy4s/video.html
Load, tow, throw.
Sure
How do I stop spinning in a circle like he does at 3 minutes and 28 seconds
You are likely applying a force to the club early in the downswing but I’d have to see your swing to give you the best feedback. Have you looked into joining my online academy? Milolinesgolf.com
Looks like Lee Trevino's action
A great action he had! 👍
I know you’ve covered it (no pun intended) but without a good tilt, many people could get lost here trying to find the feel.
👍
I hate the word Lag! It ruined my game for so long!
It ruined many and isn’t something to try for but a buy product of good dynamic motion.
Hey Instructors... How hard is this...There are lefty golfers watching also....USE THE TERMS lead hand back hand. forward leg back leg. DOnt use right and left!!!!
True! We will try and keep that more in mind.
Good for you. I've mentioned that on other channels. When they say left arm, I'm already thinking right.
@@cluman1 yeah i have learned to just think the opposite..But i am a little dyslexic also so i can really get messed up some times! LOL
Shut up, man!
