Great lyrics and very straightforward which is rare nowadays. Unfortunately people nowadays prefer cryptic lyrics (or just do not try hard enough to make it straightforward)

@@sudanemamimikiki1527 Not fair. Symphonic metal isnt as popular and as fresh and a bit hit as it was 20+ years ago. Not to mention, since Floor and all the good press Nightwish has gotten, they are more popular than they have been in a while.
For a finnish musician he is actually very well received and well recognized.
To be recognized intentionally you have to sing about sex, drugs and hoes. Actually you don't need to really sing. Just do good lip syncing. Sad but true.
I am from Belgium and I know him very well. With his lang hair and beard it is hard to not notice him when you listen to songs of Nightwish. They were one of my favorite bands when I was a in my twenties.
When I heard this in English, I thought it was beautiful and moving. Hearing it in Finnish, it brought me to tears. What a beautiful, beautiful language Finnish is. It has a,ways fascinated me, both because of its lilting tones, and because I understand that JRR Tolkien, a master linguist, based the language of the elves upon it and ancient Celtic. Being of Celtic descent, the musicality of the Finnish speaks to my heart and soul. I would love to be able to speak it, but I u derstand it is one of the world’s must difficult to learn......and I’m old. But it does make my heart sing to hear it.
Tolkien was an old Norse professor also. Jackson Crawford, who is also an Old Norse prof., has the one ring "speech" from LOTR's. Look for it it's pretty cool!!

For some reason, this is the first thing I thought of when hearing the bad news from earlier today. I was gonna see him live for the first time this year with Nightwish, then Covid hit. Him leaving Nightwish really impacts me emotionally for some reason.

happened to me as well, havent seen them yet live, been listening since i was 16 , now im 31 , and this 2021 i was like time to listen to nightwish again since almost 2 years i zoned out... 6 days in and i get a youtube suggestion....marko leaves, it definetely hit diffrently
I get what you mean. I was lucky to see them live two times already but I started listening to them when I was 5 years old and I am 21 now. Him leaving was a shock for me eventho I completely understand and respect it. His voice has been part of my childhood and life until now.

@@00utofcpt the way I found nightwish was really odd. I won highest hopes at a lottery for kids were you got a number and wait for your price. We thought that because, of the name nightwish and the fact that I won it in a game for kids, the music would be for children. When my mom turned the music on while I was in the bath tub and the first song was wish I had an angel, we quickly realized it definitely wasn't sleeping music for children. But I loved it as soon as it started. But I guess that's what you get when your mother listens to metallica while pregnant with twins 😂

This is very emotional song. Marcos father was a teacher and very musical person, which gave a lot of inspiration to Marco and his brother. After divorce his life went down and he started using alcohol and died later to liver failure. Marco will carry his fathers voice ahead!
Umm, I don't think all your details are accurate; Marko doesn't mention his parents' divorce, and his Dad died due to heart attack after a few final years of living addiction-free. ("Stainless", page 159)

Ricardo, I have to disagree. If the song is written around a specific language, it will sound better in that language. If you were to write this same song in Portuguese with the same meanings to each of the sentences (but NOT a direct translation of the song), it would come out sounding different because it would be in Portuguese. It's just a matter of cadence. I do not speak or understand Portuguese either, but would still listen to it because it's a WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL song! Metal can be written in any language, you just have to work at it. :)

Lucia Hladicseková : I love it it’s a nice break from all that noise making thunderous high powered symphonic metal whatever they call that stuff that they play nowadays similar to Nightwish, I like Nightwish but the change back to some traditional good solid rock with a different element to it is what I like about this , too much of the same repetitive music going on nowadays uniqueness is valuable to me👍

I don't understand a word but I love it. ❤️ I started listening to nightwish since I was 5 and I always thought that Marco had a special voice. Hearing this song not with nightwish but pure his music shows me that I was right. He is very special.

This song is from album called "Mustan sydämen rovio" which is a double release with "Pyre of the Black Heart". Marko performed every song in both languages. And he also wrote all the songs, some originally in English, some originally in Finnish, so both albums have both original and translated songs. And as a native Finn that also knows English pretty well, the translations that Marko did are very good so you can just see the lyrics for the variant of the song you want to understand. For this song, you could just read the lyrics of The Voice of my Father and you wouldn't lose anything about the content of the song.
The translations have minor intentional inaccuracies to allow using a word that sounds better in the song but the overall idea and message of every song is clearly the same both in Finnish and English.
A great musician, a brilliant singer, a brilliant bass player.

One of the most powerful and beautiful voices in not just Metal and rock, but in music PERIOD. The video is beautifully shot and edited, the music is sweeping and glorious. Marco's voice has always been amazing, but it's nice to hear him sing something a little softer than Nightwish and Tarot for a change.

I've heard that this is one of the most difficult languages to learn. But I also heard that it's spoken as it's written, and except for some letters, like the "R" that seem to soung strong, really strong, this is true, I can follow the lyrics perectly well, even learn how to sing it, although I don't know what I's saying. Thanks for the lyrics in it's original language, it makes the song even more interesting and cool.

@Slimy von Perkele G49 You may...I speak Athapascan which is Navajo. Pikuni Blackfeet, and Lakota, Souix (I have Lakota blood). All of these languages are heavy on vowel sounds, and have a certain song-like flow as well as hard stops...which, like I said, sound structurally similar to Finnish. Not the same, and I don't speak Finnish...but to me, it's a beautiful language!
@Slimy von Perkele G49Yeh'ta'hehy is a greeting in Athapascan, or Navajo. I spelled it wrong so you could read it like it sounds. Lots of vowels strings! I am proud, thank! Every summer there are gatherings of all tribes called pow wows...I've been to hundreds, there's dancing in full tradition regalia (never say costumes) and drum circles with singing and vendors and food...I met friends of all nations and as I spent time w them, I picked up their languages...it was easy when I was young. I'd love to learn Finnish but don't have any local friends who speak it.
