Idk if I've "mastered" the language, but I have already been studying 4+ hours a day for the past year or so. My main strategy was learn as many words and kanji as possible per day and watch Japanese CZcams videos as much as I could. Then occasionally learning grammar from Japanese CZcamsrs when I was interested or confused. I feel like I've been able to really increase my comprehension level but I need to spend more time interacting with real people to improve my writing and speaking.

i personally wouldnt recommend studying kanji intensely because its incredibly time intensive for how uneffectful it can be. some words combine kanji in a way where unless you've seen the kanji in other situations (words) then the english definition of the kanji will not suffice. some words also combine kanji in weird ways (with odd relationships) and you might not be able to determine the meaning of the word from kanji alone. i suggest studying mostly vocabulary and basic radicals (i.e. water, person, tree, etc) to recognize and connect (relationships) between different kanji in different situations.
ps many who have studied writing have regretted it and say it's quite useless (in japan as well if you're going for work) but it's up to you ultimately

@@antre-mk9ps I learned to sight read 500 of the most common kanji with just Anki mostly. I didn't bother learning to write them as you mentioned it's a waste of time. I learned another 5000ish from general reading and creating my own sentence mining Anki deck. Even for kanji that were difficult to remember at first, between daily Anki reviews and immersion, I have been able to remember a lot of them just fine.

Learning as much vocab as possible is a great way to study and it’s great that you increased your comprehension level!
Grammar is important but at the end of the day speaking is the best way, to actually use the language and interact with it.

As far as mastery goes, it always depends on your own personal goals. I had a personal goal to master English and perfect my pronunciation and vocabulary to a native level and I didn't feel done until I was around 23 years deep although I was fluent and everything long before that. If a person wants to achieve C1-C2 then it is a good reminder to remember that even a native speaker takes 15-20 years to develop their adult vocabulary, so it is okay that it takes time to reach that level as a non-native. The encouragement is that the native speaker was growing a brain and learning about the world and concepts while getting that vocab and you already have those so it isn't necessarily a hopeless dream to aim high if you want to.
