    Despite it's age, the F-15 Eagle is a magnificent plane.

    At first I thought flying over the pond would get extremely boring but on 2nd thought flying F-15 over the pond with the bubble canopy is got to be the best scenery imaginable and could never be boring.

    At the beginning, you can see how some dim-witted individuals might mistake those planes for flying saucers hovering in the sky.

    At 4:29 Lt Col Conaboy's got a nicely folded US Flag riding up front with him. That flag probably went up on every air defense mission and is most likely now professionally displayed.

      craig hodgson I wish I know, but by the book and precision is what those pilots does..that's why patterns of handling both take off N landings were similar... My personal thought as the first one settled down was Chuck Yeager .. those pioneers of his like had blazed the trails..

      @abawerazut4336 Před 4 lety +2

      My guess is that they are trying to achieve the best possible gentle touchdown for the rear and front landing gears. Besides being double, the rear gears are much robust compared to the single and smaller front. Theoretically there has to be an ideal angle and speed of approach for both all situations considered and the numbers have to be different for each gear. The pilot must be trying to get as close as he could to the ideal positions of touching the ground in both cases. If he is good at that every time he lands, it would mean longevity and less maintenance for his landing gear. But, since I cannot claim to be an expert on the subject, don't take my word for it for I only am guessing based on observation.

    wondering how many times air refueling or are those drop tanks enough for the whole trip?

    • @scottbellone
      @scottbellone  Před 4 lety +3

      Thodeus, for a typical sortie or training mission the drop tanks are enough, but for x-country and trips across the pond air refueling is needed.

      @@scottbellone Wonder why they didn't carry the centerline tank as well? Less drag & fuel burn?

    • @scottbellone
      @scottbellone  Před 4 lety +2

      Greg, they are refueled in the air from tankers so the centerline tanks aren't needed...there would definitely be more drag and fuel burn if they flew with them.

      That's a long flight even with the drop tanks and the seat in a F-15 is not a ass friendly aircraft. A F-22 and a F-35 will make you feel like you're riding on your couch.

    Why are they all carrying dissimilar stores? All had the large drop tanks under the wings while 1 carried an additional large drop tank on the centerline and 1 carried an additional small drop tank on the centerline. All seemed to carry one AIM 9 but then differing loadouts of finless missile looking items... looked like AIM 120's sans the fins and AIM 9's sans the rear fins but adding weird antenna looking protrusions in place of the forward fins.

    • @bryanmahon7866
      @bryanmahon7866 Před 4 lety

      You know they have some fun up there, depending on their commanding officer, and whether or not he lets them play a little on that long flight. Heck he might be the one saying, let's RIP it a little boys... And then again some play it by the book... They were the ones you were dreading the flight, or the maneuver before you even got in the air...

    • @luisf4077
      @luisf4077 Před 4 lety +1

      I imagine that they may pass each other to let others fly lead or fly side by side, but on the norm, they won't push it hard or long because they have to watch their fuel burn as tankers are calculated to be at certain locations and times. Plus if they start playing too far away from land, they put their aircraft in unnecessary risks of damage hours away from emergency landing points. It wouldn't be a wise career move and compromises life safety transiting over broad waters which also jeopardizes the mission and taxpayer dollars.

    • @shawnwomack3446
      @shawnwomack3446 Před 4 lety

      Being in afterburn will burn up their fuel quicker. They only have enough fuel to make it to their destination.
