This Hub Could Change MTB Hubs FOREVER!! Planetary MTB Cassette / Freecoaster!

- A Freecoaster and a Cassette at the same time depending upon the direction you're going with no disengagement or reengagement necessary?!
The Free Night Planetary Freecoaster came onto the BMX scene almost 2 years ago and has since blown up with companies like BSD & Alienation licensing the technology for their own versions of the hub. The Planetary clutch in these hubs is a nearly magical technology that allows the hub to have near instant engagement while moving forward, but unlimited slack while moving backward. Check the playlist below if you want to learn more or see my testing of the hub!

Nice it’s cool that the versatility in freestyle bmx is merging with Mountain bikes. Those tiny fears might get clogged up fast if the design isn’t sealed well. Great for vert parks I’m sure.
Tire inserts should make their way to the BMX world.
I need this compatible for a 12 speed with 141 boost spacing
So stoked for Tal!
Was thinking of building a new back wheel this summer, may have to give this a look into.
Absolutely man! You’ll want to be on it when they come in stock in august as I’m sure they will sell quick!
oh boy. that hub is dope!
Thanks for the informational video! I can’t wait to get my hands on one for my Bruce 2 dirt jumper! Do you happen to know when they are coming out?
Awesome
oh neat. they are so close to an 11spd version for enduro bikes.
Someone with the right knowledge/access could possibly modify the current driver and make a longer axle to work for that. Would be work but I’d guess it would be possible if it needs to be wider than 135mm
@@Brant_Moore Would not work for traditional mountain bikes with thru-axles and correct mtb spacing.
I think industry nine might already make one. I'm pretty sure Dan Paley uses it on his MTB
I will be super curious to see how it handles muck and grime of a mountain bike's usage over time.
Don’t worry, I’ll be checking in with the local guy on it
i think it would be great for a mountain biker in general as well. been plenty of time you need to roll back on a trail and the cranks rotating while you do it is problematic. that's a pretty ingenious.
I never knew about that so that’s really cool to hear too!
Omg yes !
Still trying to fully understand it, but….. would this remove pedal kickback on a high pivot bike?
Ns rotary freecoaster, pridestreet out of Ukraine is working on one and dmr is supposedly working on one to. It's becoming more common because people want the best of both worlds with mountain bike disc brakes and bmx freecoaster tech so they no longer need separate bikes for park and dirt jumping.
That’s really cool to hear! Hopefully this one will catch on the way it is in BMX. There’s nothing else like it and having ridden one for almost 2 years I can say that I never want to ride another style of hub
great now i need to buy 2 hubs 1 for my bmx and 1 for my jump bike
Question is what’s price I would love this as I love mtb but love adding bmx style tricks like fakies and this would be great
I'll trade you my NS Bikes freecoaster wheel I built for that hub ;) I have really been hoping that more BMX technology would come to the MTB world.
Haha unfortunately I can’t, I’m sorry!!
and vice versa. Full sus bmx bikes are littttt
when is this going to be available hub looks like it would absolutely rip definitely want to try one of these out on my dj
A batch will be available in August
@@Brant_Moore sweet can’t wait
whoop whoop
This could totally change the slopestyle and street mtb
i saw video of donny soulja, bsd rider, rocking an mtb freecoaster. Im curious which one he's testing.
Yea you are right. He rode an i9 prototype. It is a singelspeed hub with a 148x12 sapecing. Also josh lewis is an i9 teamrider and also rides a prototype freecoaster on his SantaCruz 5010. The one he is currently running is the same as dan paleys (aka donny soulja). Its worth mentioning that josh lewis ued to run a xd driver on his prototype i9 freecoaster. Thats all i know
@@schwarzauge4909 thats alot. thanks bro!
Are we going to see you on a hardtail tail or full suspension to give this a run through it's paces?
It’s the same internals so I have full faith in it. However, a local rider who absolutely shreds will be getting this specific hub to ride and test
Haha my quarterpipe tech tricks would just not work the same on a DJ. Especially the peg tricks. For the trails though, absolutely
I’m thinking of buying ONYX hub because they got low drag and I think that low drag can just replicate free coaster feels on fakies
Hii brant, just have a question, how much is this hub expected to cost. If you cant say a rough price jet, could you name the one of the bmx-version ?
Appriciate your vids anyways
Im really not sure how much it will cost. I haven't heard a price on the MTB, but the BMX versions are 240-260 ish
Any info on when this is available?
A quantity will be available in august
man you have gamechanging hub every week lmao
khe made mtb freecoaster with disc brake way back i only saw a pic of it no vids or any thing
Interesting!! I know profile has a mtb z coaster that works exactly like the BMX one but other than that I’m just not sure
Will it be avilabile in Europe Or only us ?
It should be available in Europe
Is this vaporware or can you actually buy one? My friend has the bmx one, works great!
It’s on its way. Many prototypes out there right now being ridden. This was a bit of a preview
Bro these should be popular. Not many options. You have profile and khe clones but not the khe version anymore and the clones are harder to find and sometimes use weird parts. Like things that aren't 100%compatible.
These are cheaper then the profile I'm 100% sure lol...I mean it's profile, sorry profile.
I know at least 3 or 4 people who may get one.
ns bikes also makes a freecoaster for mtb
@@geko8096 it's a khe clone. Trust me on this. I know more about coasters then most and about coasters that never made it to market and ones designed by companies that no longer exist. Plus my buddy has the ns one.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 how‘s the ns one?
@@geko8096 seems pretty good. Also seems like ns may be or may already have changed the design for 2020 so might not be a khe clone for the new ones.
But khe hubs were the standard and are still generally considered one of the best just less reliable. The new systems just reduce drag slack or reliability issues. While also helping engagement in the sense of the free night style ones.
Profile still has slack and engagement shit but let's you know when it's free coasting with the clicks.
The khe style ones might roll slightly faster.
@@geko8096 also cool bit of history. The guy who got khe to make the first mtb coaster hub is someone I used to ride with. Sick dude, he rides flatland on a mtb with front and rear disc brakes a gyro and suspension fork plus pegs.
He basically sent khe the specs they'd need to get an mtb hub done and then khe made the original one. They stopped making them though. But pretty much all the hubs are just adaptations of that. Or neobikes did a modification of the Ezra style coaster which I think is made by chosen in Taiwan.
Slowly building a 24 dj bike. I'm gonna run the freenight or the profile coaster. Gotta finish my bmx builds first though.
when is this thing comming out to public and how much $
There will be a small supply in august but I don’t know the retail cost yet
@@Brant_Moore holy shit i need to preorder one to poland, was looking for radio sonar hubs (same as wtp hybrid) but now things have changed
When is this released?
As stated in the video, a small quantity will be available in August
@@Brant_Moore sorry missed that while skipping through to find that information haha. Do you know who distributes free night in the UK I’d love to try one out !
I don’t believe they have distribution. I think they sell direct from their site and ship from Israel so stay tuned to their social media closer to August!!
Rad
How do I get it??
And can I get it in a 14 tooth.
Omw to pick my up my DJ from my LBS
Haha you’re always doing bicycle things, it’s rad!
@@Brant_Moore New bars, stems, grips, and hydraulic brakes! Old brakes seized up lol
Hell yea!!
Oh boy my wallet already hurts lol
Well crap now I need to replace my dj hub 🤦♂️
I wish it was silent
I m first
im 2nd
