  • If you're in Ho Chi Minh City, one of the most popular tourist destinations is Ben Thanh Market. It is known for it's vendors, bargaining items, and selling all sorts of 'designer' goods.

    Ya you should try more local vendors and stay away from the touristy trap. Wish you all the best and have a happy stay in Vietnam

    Wow I was at the Ben Thanh market back in 2023 November to January… it was a lot of sellers that I didn’t like they were annoying! You got a lot good videos!

    I remember going there in 2015. Shit were expensive as fuuuuuck. The vendors would try to persuade you to buy by speaking in what they think your language is. I would constantly change my accent or combine accents, making it hard for the vendors to guess where I'm from.

      Everytime I go there in Vietnam my mum always makes bargains . It's true my mum bought my sister a cap 🧢 it was expensive. This guy that we bought jewellery from told us he sells the cap more cheaper .

      Everything is at least 3 times as expensive there, always offer price at 1/4 what they tell you and go up from there 😅

    I spent five months in HCMC last year. Ben Thanh Market was an overpriced hellhole, even before the pandemic hit them. When I visited in 2022, as they were just beginning to reopen, they seemed at least a bit more humble with their pricing, since business was just starting to pick up again. However, last year, the prices skyrocketed without any limit. Even with inflation in, this is nowhere close to being justified.
    Back in 2018, the food was still "okay" there, but now it's just plain cold, oversweetened, and overpriced. While I'm happy that Vietnam is doing well, Ben Thanh and the surrounding area in District 1 are just full of overpriced stuff and scammers.
    Still hope you enjoy your stay/new start there tho.

    Is 300k Đồng for a leather belt expensive? Relative to USD, that’s like $13. I can’t find a belt at Target that’s under $25. What’s the local price?

    • @wiohrwqihr1329
      @wiohrwqihr1329 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes 300K is expensive. Local price is 120K - 150K.

    Nem nướng 120k is not that expensive in Ben Thanh Market, D1, normally 80-100k in other district 😂😂

    That's interesting they think you're Japanese lol. I don't think I've ever had another Chinese or Asian person think I'm non-Chinese. Its mostly non-Asians and their friends start sweating when they confuse me for someone else XD If I could speak the language and knew my own ancestral culture better, I would've thought to move away as well. Good luck and best wishes, brother.

    I went to Ben thanh market before with my friend. Maybe they Jack up the prices cause their monthly stall rent is also expensive. I didn’t buy anything though 🫠🫠🫠
