I'd add a zip-lock bag full of oatmeal and a bag of rice. They're both quite simple to cook, real healthy, and fills you up without much else. Also rice can last pretty much forever if you keep it in the right conditions.

Cliff, one item I would suggest adding are some electrolyte (potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, etc.) packets. They are usually water soluble and help restore critical electrolytes that help when you are stressed or exerting energy. Help keep the brain sharp. Some suggestions Oxylent by Vitalah, Power Pak by Trace Minerals Research, Cerasport and Cytomax.

Related to food is your need for "Hot Water" ! Yes, hot water for tea, but add cinnamon, cloves or honey. Also for drink, hot cocoa or apple cider in powder form. For food for first meal hot cereal with granulated brown sugar (for sweetness and taste). And for hot water you need a stove to help save the forest ! A good wood stove is the Emberlit Titanium UL stove (;reviewed by Nutnfancy) and a wood stove will use one half the fuel of a open campfire (and half the time look for fuel). The small light stove means a small fire that will need only a small light duty survival knife like the SOG Seal Strike tactical survival knife. And for tinder to start the small fire, the multi-purpose Pencil Sharpener (also for people who have a government that do not think you are adult enough for a knife). Thank you for another great video ! tjl

Good video. I have about the same theory as you do, but I also add in a half cup of uncooked rice for each meal to extend it and add some extra calories. I always find that those meals are okay, but never enough for someone who's REALLY working out in the bush or worse, a survival situation. Even if I don't use the rice in a meal, a pack some sugar and cinnamon and mix that with the cooked rice for a late night snack which is pretty good in my book. Water is not a problem for me as I'm in Louisiana and water is everywhere. I also add in some suckers. I got into that habit in the service when out on patrols. Keep up the great work.

Great video as usual! So well organized and thought out, the only thing I would like to see is more attention to micro/ macro nutrient needs, in addition to calories. There is often a trade off between calories and taste of course and generally your strategy is one I agree with i.e. hot meals, way to go on smoked salmon, will be adding that to my upcoming food project we discussed months ago! My upcoming project will have some ideas on condensed calorie sources. Stay tuned!

Besides this killing the romance of rice & beans (if there ever was any), there is nothing much to say about these modules. I like your reasoning behind your choices (even if the results for me would more then likely vary from yours). One thing I would still advice is to add some bouillon-cubes ('instant soup'). Seeing staying outside is more then likely cold, so it's nice to have something warm to drink in the evening (saves the tea for the coffee moments)), it also replenishes salts you may have lost due to extra sweating, and for me personally I find soup/bouillon comforting as well (thought this last point may be a largely personal association) ... then again, if you added some to your H2go bag (v2) you would obviously already have them, and addition to the bug out bag isn't needed... ...So yeah, a smaller decent rotation time bag of quick snacks, and a longer rotation time larger bag of 6 (3x 2 meals a day) meals containing food one is actually accustomed to (or is at least tried and taste tested). Good reasoning :) ... one thing though, your plan A likely being a Bug IN scenario, would make your plan B a 'relocate' plan (to where ever you can 'again' safely Bug IN), is the 3days supplies lasting you long enough to get to that location on foot ? (seeing that if you go by car you can obviously also grab your 72h thermos bag 'picnic' food supplies, and some of those 3 or 5 gallon water containers) ... Which's obviously reasoning with the assumption that a 'bug out bag' is to get from where ever that bag is stored (likely home) to your 'bug out location' on foot, where said bug out location has more supplies. In which case your bug out bag needs to support you for said travel (and the time there of). As opposed to viewing the bug out bag as a means to survive for 72h, hoping for emergency services to fly in on rainbows riding magical unicorns spreading manna all over the emergency area, after those 72h ... which isn't necessarily a bad plan, as that is likely to be the case in most local and regional emergency's (or at least they will try to do so, don't count on manna though), but it is good to determine what purpose the bag serves, so you know on what for you can rely on it... (this obviously also for any other viewers reading this comment)

You should check out Generation UCAN. It's a powdered based supplement these is used primarily for long distance events but can also be used for hiking, etc. I've used it for several years including my last marathon where I consumed two doses before and two at the half way point (spiked with~40mg caffeine). That's less that 400 calories for running 26 miles. They also have snack bars. The main objective of UCAN is to stabilize your blood sugar and allow you to burn fat. There could be a lot of uses for UCAN in a bug out situation.

So for the customer it's usually 18-24 months on powder (both hydrate and superstarch) and 8-12 months on bars from the time you get it. Best by date should also be printed on the packaging. There is a good cyber Monday deal going on right now. PM me and I can get you another 5% off on top.

As part of the many comments spread across YT, having a 72 hour bug is great. Yet, I have the strong suggestion to everybody (and that does mean everybody !, with my govt/mil classified consulting business ... and other events happening in this nation and around the world ...) ... it is ....
72 bug for each person of the family. Yet, while having a potential food cache inside one's residency, I strongly mention having multiple hides and bugs within a 20 square mile area (20 mile perimeter radius). Buried caches inside tupperware/rubbermaid containers, or even better porcelain (with heavy lid) pottery, (pickling barrels), 5 gallon, 10G, 12G. Decentralized food caches that provide you AT LEAST 3 weeks of edibles. WHY?
You may bug in, you may but out, try to get back home, or beat feet from the outback to home. Why 3+ weeks food in your cache network? 3 weeks to final death by starvation. Yes, but why? If you have a city location, you have everybody else going rats, lemmings, mobs, marauders, and zombies. In those 3 weeks, they will eat up everything they can pillage, and then no food, they will feed upon themselves, or they will move to new territories, like an expanding army ant ex-invasion. So, if you are bug in, those bug ins must be 3+ weeks food (if you can protect it, eat it, ... and not lose it). Those are the most dangerous of times. 3+ weeks. Then you will have barren land of food, fuel, water, ... and only the sick, hurt, dying, and dead. You are not to be a number in those categories.
Now with the rest of the marauders and zombies still around or having eaten an expanding area of destruction and food searching, with a bug in, all those outward lands of 20 mile perimeter will be devastated and nobody will want to return to a scorched land of destruction, no food, no fuel, and no water. This is your "Eden." You are more safe in those 20 mile perimeter lands than anybody else, if you play your cards right. With your decentralized hideys and bugs, you have your food, fuel, water, seeds, mobile garden plots (and hopefully you are in spring through summer).
With other comments to YT Bristol Prepper (pls go see), your hides, bugs, and caches need to be strategically located. And easily moved from spot to spot. Stealth camping, stealth movement, stealth survival. All the hows and whys of strategic locations revolve around those 20 square miles of food sources, water, and fuel. When you have overlapping forests, hides, bugs, water source (pond, lake, creek, ...) and potential fuel sources (black out energy conditions, so no pumping of gas stations for others) you have your overlapping criteria (venn diagram on your maps) for hides and bugs for the greatest survival.
Three plus weeks of food, and the other refugees moving ahead of you, they will be the fighters, marauders to others protecting their resources against the intruders. Gun fights, physical fights, killing, eating, canibaalism (yes, ...!) "population control" (pruning) and the Darwin Awards (extinction) for the killed and non-surviving, leaves a territory that is far more easily controlled and reconned (with a MAG, mutual assurance group), that wandering with the huddled masses.
72 bug out bags. Dollar store small jars of PB or PBJ, small honey, tomato paste, coffee/tea crystals put into ziplocks, any small packets of restaurant style salt, pepper, chili sauce, hot sauce, sweet sour sauce, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, honey, cane sugar/white sugar packets (no sugar substitutes!), horseradish, hot mustard, pickle relish, soy sauce, Starbucks' agave sugar syrup, pizza parmesan cheese packets, pizza chili flakes, .... Vegetable dried chips, ... veggetti spaghetti noodle maker for veg roots and squash/pumpkin. Any dried/powdered veg/herbs for veg smoothies. VITAMINS/MINERALS! dried soup mixes, dried powder gravy mixes, coconut oil (take 2 teaspoons helps loose weight as body processes these healthy fats, slows down metabolism, antibiotic food/ointment like honey), 2# jugs of mixed nuts, 2# jugs of dried fruit mix all put into ziplocks, dried berries/cranberries, hard candies, brick chocolate, reese's PB/chocolate pieces or Butterfingers (PB/chocolate), ....mylar packets or cans of salmon (oily), mackerel (oily) (these have the highest calories of all foods, above beef, chicken, and tuna, ... Campbell soups, Rice a Roni, Pasta a Roni, Potato helper, hanburger helper, rice helper, pasta helper, even other arabic rice type products !!!). Mac/cheese next best. Dollar store shows a mylar packet of cheese sauce (buy!) or a small bottle/can of cheese whiz. Slim jim jerky sticks, and small mylar packets of cheese
Tyvek 3x3 ft film (1.85 ounce weight) with grommets at hemmed and seamed corners (4 upright stakes, put grommets on stakes, pour in unclean water, becomes open air gravity fed tyvek water filter (latest research 0.5 - 1.0 micron olefin fiberweave housewrap removes 99.99+ % particulates and bugs). May I suggest you vote wisely and hopefully all this SHTF etc will be unnecessary. Think of the most dangerous people alive losing all traces of civilized humanity. Last one alive is the loser, maybe. Eat your steak well done.

Then maybe I am a big boy! And there will be no trolls near me, including post-SHTF wannabe friends on my grub. As others who have worked the Mideast, "Glass" on "sheets" needs a "pesticide application." But, in your/everybody's voting (majority bogus voting on the wrong side of history), all we have is boys in our capitol, when we need real men, to make tough decisions. McArthur was "accurate" about Korea and ending up solving the China problem. Patton was "accurate" about Germany and ending up solving the Russia problem. Truman was only "right."
We are still fighting WW I. All events in between are just little battles here and there. Getting back to the original problem (Serbian muslim killing the Austro-Hapsburg Archduke) is just as much the same as the Paris, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Munich, BenGhazi, et al attacks. Taking a opposition nation back to the Stone Age, when they want to have nukes and put everybody else back to quarks, is a valid justification for pre-emptive strikes, without mercy or grace. Now, there is an exposed fatwa, nukes are warranted against the opposition, enemies of the faith, wipe them from the planet. So as they have said, so shall it be unto them.
26 and 82, and 92 and 84, are problem solvers.

What's the planned total weight of your Bug Out Bag 3.0?

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  Před 8 lety

+MrTryAnotherOne I'm hoping for 30-35 lbs (13.6-15.8 kg). At the end of the modules deep dives, I may need to "make weight" and remove some of the heavier items.

+MrTryAnotherOne I was going to say there should be both weights included in any BOB/GHB video. You have to carry the weight of consumables in the start of an emergency situation. I think base weight and actual weight should always be included.

Bullet Meals. I always keep one bar in my EDC backback. www.bulletmeal.com/ That's really the best Ready-to-Eat Meals you can have. I like to eat them cold, but they say they can be warmed, so I guess that's possible as well. The taste is rather odd, so perhaps it's not for fine dining, and not quite the same as some MRE stuff, but these things are ultimately COMPACT, and I have always found them immediately fulfilling. The taste is unforgettable when you're hungry. I have usually had them as hiking food when I'm too tired to cook anything warm, and sometimes as snack when I haven't had time to eat. They are the ultimate survival food, whether surviving a hard day at work, hard day hiking, or hard day fighting whatever you're fighting. Sorry for the almost advertisement, but I really appreciate the stuff (though the taste is a bit survivalist).

I can't help but think..... that you do not really expect anything to go down....and if you do - you expect it to last no longer than a few days.....A few days of delightfully sorting, organizing and using your beautifully color coded supplies....
and then what? return home to life & job?
~Those who have squalling children in tow will be screwed....no matter how well prepped they are.
~After a couple of weeks all of your meticulous organization will be haphazardly tossed, lost, and bloodstained, (no room for OCD while surviving) and those $7 to $10 meal bags will be gone, and by the way - there will be no place to "throw the empty packaging away".
~You included no seeds. so you don't plan to relocate permanently or grow food....
Perhaps I've missed something....OR perhaps I've seen too much.
    Anyway....best of luck.

+kittensugars My bug out bag is designed as a 72-hour emergency supplies kit, that might be able to be stretched out to a handful days past the initial 72 hours. What you are describing seems more like an INCH bag (I’m Never Coming Home) with regard to seeds for permanent relocation and not returning to a job. I have included a trash bag and ziplock bags in the Sanitation Sub Module of my Hygiene Module. The OCD organization is not intended to be meaningful in a couple of weeks after an emergency. It’s main intent is to assist in the first 24 hours when stress will most likely be highest and you’ll want swift location of certain supplies. No comment regarding parents being screwed if they have children in tow. I have appreciated all of your comments over the past year and a half in the various videos that I have done. I hope that you still will enjoy some of my other videos that are non-BOB related, such as EDC kits and product reviews. It seems like you may have “seen too much” from my channel and that our preparedness philosophies might be vastly different. All the best. ~Cliff
