I'd say that it is fair to mention that "someone" fighting Messmer with only rocks is, likely, Sax Slave Gael - a pretty cool Souls player and challenge runner. He's done some pretty impressive runs too, worth checking out.

Rakshasa has crazy poise, you need like a dual greathammer jump attack to stun her out of the weed cutter.
That ash just has superarmor but makes the user take more damage

it’s not really poise, it’s weapon has a feature that it has some ridiculous hyperarmor when attacking, ash of war especially. Never trade hits with Rakshasa katana user, they roll with the colossals
@@thatlittlemonstrosity I was talking about the boss specifically, she does get staggered of of weed cutter by a dual GH jump L1. NPCs have more passive poise and less hyper armor than players.

I don’t think they do. They do have more health and defence but as a pvp player I never noticed any poise or hyper armor difference
It seemed like those "counter hits" were just some weird point blank hit for the rocks, because AFAIK only Pierce damage can counterhit and those high damage hits only came from really close rock throws.
You can even see 2 separate instances of damage if you go by frame by frame on those hits, one for like 2/3rds of the damage of the normal hit and then the entire normal throw damage the next frame.
I think they were actually just headshots
@@RanDoomPuffHeadshots would still be one hit, not two separate ones one frame apart. And he makes full contact with Gaius' Boars ass at 31:10 and gets the boosted damage compared to every rock that hits both Gaius and the Boars head directly.
It looks like the throwing animation is an attack since he seems to get them only when he is incredibly close.

Yes counter hits are for piercing only, which rocks probably don't do
extra poise from the sword apply to all attacks, as well as debuff
and yeah counter hits are pierce damage exclusive bonus. That damage was probably because he was standing pointblank

Yeah, that's what I thought
All damage types can counter hit, it's only that your pierce defenses lower while you're attacking and thus they get even more bonus.
@@confushisushi That's simply not true, the only counter hit mechanic in elden ring is the pierce negation lowering. Other damage types getting counter damage is only present in older souls games

Some comments have already mentioned it, but counterattacks are exclusive to pierce damage. The Rocks seem to have a double hitbox up close and that's what the "counter hits" were. The rock pots don't seem to have the double hitbox like the rocks themselves.

Idk if you ever realized this throughout the video cause I'm commenting early in, but the reason the rock does that double damage proc is due to it having a melee and ranged hitbox. The rock isn't "used" before it's thrown, so if in melee range, the rock hits twice. I just noticed this in the hippo fight lol
