    The Vortex Viper PST II 3-15x44 is More then enough scope for the majority of the shooters out there. It offers good resolution, good features, and great illumination (for this style of scope) all for a price that will keep most people in their budget. Dare I say, Its the best Intermediate(3-15x) scope under $1k. A Huge thank you to Patreon supporter Sparks for sending this in for review!

    Thanks for the great video. I purchased this exact model today on Optics Planet for $575! I know that the newer Ebr 7c reticle is more desirable but this model at that price was about as good as I could have achieved being a poor! So I’m excited to finally finish a proper SPR setup with this scope.

    Damn fine review! A few things worth noting:
    This is the EBR-2C reticle and the newest on the market is the 7C reticle. Nothing else changed in the scopes. The glass and turret quality is the exact same regardless of the reticle you choose.
    Ryan Cleckner says in a video with John Lovell that the PST Gen 2 "catches you up to the Razor a little bit. It gets pretty darn close". I have both the 4.5-27 Razor and the 5-25 PST gen 2 and I have to agree. I'm really trying to figure out which one I want to keep on my gun. I'm bougie af, so I really want to keep the Razor that matches my suppressor that's currently getting done in Vortex Bronze. But at twice the price of the PST gen 2, it's such a hard call.
    And for anyone wondering, the Strike Eagle 5-25 does not come nearly as close to the PST as the PST does to the Razor. Vortex themselves will straight up tell you that features cost money. The SE has all the bells and whistles and still costs less than the PST Gen 2. That's because of the glass quality and made in the Philippines vs made in China. The SE is still good. 34mm tube is nice, the zero stop allowing 5 clicks past zero is nice, the locking of the turrets is nice (even though they're mushy and wiggly and don't line up consistently). I have the SE on my 22lr and love it for that.

  • @ecortese20
    @ecortese20 Před 3 lety +12

    I have this optic, and this review is spot on. Absolutely a perfect option for most users. I like the glass on the 3-15x over the 5-25x PST Gen 2, and I think that 15x is enough magnification where you don't lose your target during follow up shots. There's also significantly less "shaking" of the reticle at max versus the 25x.
    Can you use the parallax adjustment to accurately range your targets? Meaning, when everything's in focus from the knob adjustment, you can peak over and get the range from the dial?

    • @CDOES
      @CDOES  Před 3 lety +3

I find bad and good on all of them and I'm not experienced with longer range set ups just getting into having a nice set up and I'm at a loss with all this contradictive information on all these scopes in that range, so now I don't know at all what I should get, any help is appreciated thanks

    • @commonsense5709
      @commonsense5709 Před 8 měsíci

      Since nobody replied to you, here goes.
      I already own many of the Athlon Midas Tacs and Ares BTR Gen 2s and Cronus BTR UHDs which were more expensive than the EP5. You can tell I was a fan of Athlon.
      I recently bought 2 of the newest Arken EP5's and received them earlier December 2023 and am still honestly blown away by them. They are much clearer than the older EP5's I looked through 2 years ago and again last year and clear all the way to their maximum 25x magnification. They are on par in clarity with my Midas Tacs and Ares BTR Gen 2s and almost as clear as my Athlon Cronus BTR UHDs and Tract Toric ELR that cost more than triple the price actually close to 4 times the price.
      If weight doesn't bother you then go with the EP5. I really like how huge the eyebox and sight picture is on these newest EP5's noticeably better than all of my Athlons and Tract Toric ELR.
      I don't think I will be buying any more Athlons or Tract Toric ELR scopes after first hand experience with these new EP5's and EPL4's I also bought recently.
      For reference I have a Vortex Razor Gen 3 6-36x56 also and these Arkens can't compete with it except I think the Arken turrets feel nicer to me but absolutely nothing else can touch them for the prices they are selling them for.
      Compare the newest Arken EP5's to the Athlon Cronus and Tract Toric ELRs and you will see exactly what I mean. The newest EP5's seem to have superior glass compared to their older ones.

      @commonsense5709 thanks for the reply! I actually got the ep5 Christmas last year and the same result I was completely blown away by the quality, nicest scope I had before that was a 150 dollar nikon, what a difference!

      @commonsense5709 Před 8 měsíci

      @@eddienavarro8126 Best of all if you ever need to use their lifetime warranty they even send you a prepaid return shipping label so you aren't out of pocket to ship it to them. Just like how Vortex does but Arken's response isn't as quick.
      I think I am going to buy more of their EP5's.
      I believe the hype now. And I paid for all of my Arkens with my own money just like most normal customers do and wasn't sponsored or got anything for free to shill for the brand either.
      I honestly regret spending so much money on all of my Athlon scopes now even on sale. The EP5's huge eyebox and turrets I really like a lot better than my Athlons. Still blown away by the clarity too.

    • @commonsense5709
      @commonsense5709 Před rokem

      I'd avoid Riton due to poor QC especially their Japan models. I think the Tract Toric 2.5-15x50 is the best $1000 scope in the 15x magnification range. I think the Meopta Optika6 3-18x56 with the Mrad1 reticle a close second for under $1000. He did a review on the Meopta 3-18x50 with the Mrad1 reticle but the 56mm is better. @commonsense5709 Před rokem

      I'd say the Tract Toric 4-20x50 is at least 2 levels above the Vortex PST 2. It's made in Japan with German Schott ED glass vs Philippines for the Vortex PST 2. The Tract Toric is also a step up compared to the Vortex Razor LHT IMHO aside from the weight and total elevation travel. I personally prefer the Tract Toric ELR 4.5-30x56 for the higher magnification while still having a low 4.5x for a wide FOV and the much greater total elevation travel in a 34mm tube.

      @glynnhough3443 Před rokem +1

      @@commonsense5709 I have both and they are great scopes with some good and not so good points for me.
      The Tract is more compact, built to last a long long time, its a bit heavier, has great turrets that lock. I really like the reticle but i personally hate that all the tree illuminates (and will never buy another scope where it does.. ZCO), much prefer just the centre or the cross (as in the PST)
      The PST doesn't have locking turrets, although i've not had them move on me. It has glass that looks great to my eyes, maybe a bit behind but not that much difference to me, certainly not atleast two levels.
      Most of my shooting is 150 yards and under with airguns and so field of view is important to me, and this is where the PST shines. It has a massive FOV and the difference between the two in this regard is huge and instantly noticeable. The Tract is a keeper, but i am about to buy my second PST 3-15.

    Ok… I was with you until you said “they’re built like tanks”. They built more like… cheap midsize sedans. Drive down a bumpy road one time and your going to need an alignment. Take a hard hit, and while it may kinda get you where you need to go, it’s going to need to have some work done. As far as feature set and Optical quality, they’re great at their price point. I put them on par with say a Burris XTR ii or iii maybe. Great for their intended use, but not an NF NXS or Trijicon Tenmile. I will say though that my scope selection criteria is based off of the earned wisdom and experience that “shit happens”, and if I’m miles from camp and my rifles takes a spill for whatever reason, I want the assurance in knowing that it is ACTUALLY built like a tank.
