I just want to say that I always loved Sonata Arctica, and I really enjoyed following your evolution, which kind of followed my own and so, I always felt a connection. I think people that complain about the band not being what it was just, reflects on the people themselves their inability to evolve. Keep being the wonderful creators that you are. You always have a place close to my heart. (and by the way, my son now 4 years old, sings to your music and I am very proud) 🐾

From these videos, I get the feeling that Tony is utterly disappointed with the way the world works and the constant regress going on on global scale, you can hear it in his voice. I'm pretty sure positive and cheerful Tony will be back during the tour, but his feelings are always part of SA songs and the creative process, so yes, that means less uplifting power metal. And that's okay. I really love the way this album turned out. Wish the others would just sit and listen without any pre-formed expectations. Just come with a blank page, and listen to it for what it is. And in my opinion, it's very good.

Sonata Arctica isn't a Power Metal band anymore, so why would you expect them to? He's mentioned in interviews that the band does not consider themselves to be Power Metal, and they don't strive to be. Also, Kakko actually went on vacation completely away from music before they started doing the recordings for the ninth hour.
From the reviews so far, it looks like we'll be getting at least 2-4 power metal tracks depending on your definition. One of them you can listen to here: cjsw.com/program/megawatt-mayhem/episode/20160924/ at the 7 minute mark they play "Rise a Night". I think the quality is reduced pretty significantly by the radio station, because all of the songs that play sound just a little off no matter which speakers I've listened to them with. That being said, I think the song isn't quite as dynamic as it could be. Still, it is a pretty awesome song in my opinion.

The 9th Hour to me is the most power metal alike album they have made since Reckoning Night, it has plenty of piano and voice epic melodies. Of course we can´t expect some Silence pt 2 never because they are more mature musicians.

I have just become a fan I the last year after ten years of being indifferent to them.
And you know what? Every single album is amazing! Sure, the last two are less phenomenal but all the same they are beautiful, frequently.
I really think this band is near flawless. the new album looks set to be a major return to form.
