      I will be doing a lot of short hikes this season. Let's face it, it simply fits more with my present state of available resources. I know some viewers were tiring of my reservoir fishing clips but that's what I do during the cold months. Thanks again for tuning in.

      That place was a treat. There are a few more lakes up there that are close to Eagle Lakes. I will certainly be back at some point to check them out. It's hiking season again! Thanks for watching.

    I haven't been in Desolation Wilderness yet but is on my bucket list. It's a long drive for me. Definitely worth the drive. It is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this fascinating trip with us .

      I hear you. I lived in SoCal for years so Desolation was a little out of my range due to lack of time. I live close now so I plan to be there a lot!. I'll be hitting the Eastern Sierra as soon as possible. Thanks again for watching.

    Love these hike videos, something very unique to this channel and provides lots of good information for hikers and backpackers alike to plan. The fishing videos are awesome too and would love to know fly recommendations and techniques to target big trout in the Eastern Sierra lakes.

      Right on. Thanks for the kind words. It's music to my ears. I have several demonstration clips up that show and describe the basic techniques I apply in my fishing clips. My hope is that between those general instruction clips and the comments I make in my fishing clips my viewers who don't have a whole strategy for success hammered out can put an effective game plan of their own together. With trout fishing, a lot of success comes from making minor adjustments and trying new approaches.
      Between the hiking clips and fishing clips, My hope is to show people new places to go. It takes years to find locations because the time consuming nature of going into the mountains. In my own past, once I found a good spot I would go back over and over. Producing clips for this channel is getting me out to new locations which is fun for me as well. Hopefully I can continue to produce clips on a regular basis.
      As for fly recommendations, I usually go to a store that has a variety of options and grab a number of nymphs that look good to me. I carry a fairly wide range of sizes from tiny to large and then throw in a few larger streamers. It's good to have both bead heads and nymphs without bead heads. If they won't hit the bead heads, go to the ones without or vise versa. I sometimes fish dry flies but I find it hard at times to match what the fish are eating and you really have to pay attention. It often seems like the trout are feeding on something much smaller than the smallest dry fly I have! Fly floatant is a must for me when I'm fishing flies on the surface. Basically, I'm a bit lazy so throwing nymphs out there with varying speeds of retrieval is just easy and caters to my short attention span! Thanks for tuning in and I expect to have a lot more coming up for my channel. Iv'e been hitting NoCal hard lately but you can expect more from the Eastern Sierra in the Summer into Fall for sure. Thanks again.

    Desolation Wilderness is awesome! Have you hiked to Dardanell Reservoir? Big trout there Brother. 👍🙏🎣⚒

      That was my first time in desolation wilderness. I usually didn't go this far up north because I lived in SoCal for so many years. Now Desolation Wilderness is in my back yard so it's on! I got some nice, hard fighting browns in Eagle Lake. Not huge but great fun on light spinning tackle and my flyrod. I'm going to get that clip up soon. Thanks for the intel on Dardanell Reservoir, I will certainly look into it.

    Are we able to hike up the desolation area? The area is beautiful

      Desolation is packed with snow. I show the Eagle Falls trailhead in the last Emerald Bay video I posted this week. You can hike all around and out of Emerald bay on the Rubicon trail though. You might hit a lot of snow at some point in the heavily Forested north facing areas though.

    Looks amazing. Going to head up in this area and hit up Lyons creek aswell. Did you have to buy a permit for desolation wilderness, or do you not have to because of COVID? Also thanks for the recommendations for prosser reservoir from passed vids, I got a couple nice pink meat rainbows a couple weeks back. Keep up the good work!

      Right on! That's what I like to hear. I want people to cruise up to the places I feature and have fishing success. Those cold water rainbows are tasty. I read you had to fill out a free wilderness permit at the trail head but the boxes were empty and there were also no parking envelopes to pay for parking. People seemed to be just rolling on up. I did notice that some cars, presumably overnighters, had parking passes that looked like they came from obtaining their back country overnight wilderness permits. I'm doing some guessing there. I walked through the lot and looked at a few dashboards to get a sense of whether people were paying for parking and those permits were all I noticed. I parked outside just to feel safer from a potential parking ticket.

    what kind of permit is needed to do the lake hike?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 3 lety +1

      You don't need a permit for a day hike. You only need a wilderness permit to stay overnight.
