"Gentle Migration"... Looks back at Windows 8.
wait what happened to apple oh yeah that guy died that's what happened to fuck up apple
@@raven4k998 hey buddy Apple is doing better than it ever did sorry to disappoint you
I was so anxious and excited to install OS X on my iMac 400mhz computer back in 2000. I fell for OS X immediately! Best OS ever.
I'll have Steve know that I did want to lick my computer screen :/
it's kind of amazing to see that aqua really defined the iphone and ipod ui look up until the discontinuation of the ipod and ios7
Yeah that's why I still run iOS 6.1.4 on my primary iPhone 5 64GB. I hate that they ditched their flagship UI when Steve Jobs died and Jony Ives the hardware designer, was given control of the software design as well and came out with his flat "button", neon-colored iOS 7 abomination.?
@@Syclone0044 I know i’m replying to a 4 year old comment but have you ever jailbroken your phone yet?
@@waffleliberty89 i know I'm replying to a 3 month old comment but you can reskin iOS to legacy iOS 6 and below with jailbreak?
God I miss Apple events like this. Even the beginning few seconds of the clip "..but we're not done yet". The iconic "but wait there's more" back in the day with Apple had a whole OPERATING SYSTEM after it. And those "goals" slides?? Amazing. Clear concise vision and communicated clearly. RIP Jobs and Apple :(
Carbon was only removed back in Oct 2019 in macOS Catalina.
That’s very interesting that they kept it around for that long. They got rid of Rosetta for Power PC apps in 2011 but kept Carbon around for another 8 years?
Its truly is unbelievable that OSX was first shown in 2000. I remember when I first got OSX running on my oooold iMac when I was just a kid. OSX was such an advanced operating system for 2000, and still in 2008 its way ahead of its time. Apple and Steve are just incredible.
I learnt a lot about computers from watching my parents on the iMac back in the late 2000's. I always envied my dad for solving computer problems. The computer was 'Daddy's thing.' Ten years later, I'm solving the same computer problems as him 🙂 We all thought it would be my brother to inherit the computer brains, but no. It was me.
And those traffic signal controls still look the same and operate the same 20 years on. That is pretty damn impressive!
Today, my friend had an issue with the colour space of her PPTX when exported as PDF on her Windows machine. I helped her converting it on my Mac instead. And no more problem. Then I came back to this video just to see how mind-blowing it was 21 years ago that PDF was native on Mac OS X .
"...make the NeXT great personal computer operating system..."
Say what you want about steve, but when he was still with us, he could sell you anything, it could call a rock an iRock and say its the best damn rock you could buy and people would still buy it! RIP
I don't think thats true, he just sold great stuff (The beste you could get. . For doing that, pointing out the aspects of the product which make it the best you could get is enough to sell it. He was very enthusiastic about it because he knew about the products truth, the soul of the product. That what Apple was about. (WAS unfortenuatly)
He also created amazing things though. All Tim seems to Cook is a pile of shit.
I love these videos! Thankyou very very much!
Watching this, I still can't believe this amazing man is no longer with us.
Rest in peace, Steve. You were one of a kind.
I'm running this on Lion and I adore it - best OS I've ever used.
This is a landmark moment for Apple. I wish I was there to partake of the moment.......
Anyone watching this after Tim Cook today said the transition to Mac OS X was what they consider to be a historic moment for the Mac?
It was such a beauty back then; I still have a soft spot for this gorgeous design; Steve really did care about all the ins and outs of the experience and the quality of the product... I feel like Apple has lost so so much sight of this... give us that wow factor we were getting here when Steve was still around... I know; its a testament to what he provided to the Apple experience but truly; take inspiration and give us that wow factor back... I want to feel like my money being spent went to something truly special!!
I fucking love OSX! best os i have ever used!
I love Unix systems, so I am using Linux at the moment.
The reason that I have considered switching to Mac is the best you can because you have a solid Unix system with a friendly interface and include security for a major company like Apple.
And the most important for me (developer), is that I can use propiertary and software from Microsoft or use open source GNU software like QT, GTK, Python, and so on.
I've watched this 30 times and it's still good
Thanks geekfreackz!
Macs are so beautiful! :)
watching this on my M1 MacBook Air 💻
Last 2 weeks of 2020!
"Great software written by Adobe" ... how things change!
It was an interesting move going from a proprietary kernel to a UNIX-based system. That's one reason I've considered switching to Mac next time I upgrade rather than building/buying a new PC.
Steve was the only man cool enough to use the word 'Killer' in a Macworld presentation.
Thank you for this info geekfreackz ! That's helpful :)
Designed for the internet damn Steve was years ahead it's really amazing !
Steve is the man.
Get well soon!
RIP Steve, you were special, we will miss your WWDC keynotes, ideas
I worked at MACMALL in Los Angeles and this was televised into the company.
And now: Mac OS 10 is fading away
00:03 Steve Jobs: because it’s my pleasure today to announce Mac OS X
Jobs' greatest moment and truly, his greatest contribution.
I think I'm going to buy a Mac too! I love it!
I had this beta! Then I had to show the beta disk at the Virginia Apple Store to get 10.1.
I have always wanted a Mac. They are lightyears beyond Windows. If only they weren't so darn expensive.
The old presentations Steve made always get me excited. But now, when he introduced iPad 2, I didn't feel so excited...
Jobs worked on arcade games at Atari before founding Apple, and was involved in the technical aspect of things. Gates was billed 'Head Programmer' at Microsoft and, whilst I'm very well aware that DOS wasn't written by him, he's still a software programmer.
So glad I jumped ship and recently bought my first iMac with Mountain Lion! Windows 8 is a total dogs breakfast, and I have finally discovered the magic of OSX! Why did I stick with windows all these years?!
Did he said Linux like ...? He should have said Unix like . Am I dreaming..?
I always wondered how fast our computers would run if we went back to old OS graphics. God! Our computers would be so FAST!!!!!!!!!
Happy 20th Birthday Mac OS X!
@lkelko You can run windows on a mac machine? :D I didn't know that! Thanks! :)
@claunia very true, the analogy is simply meant to display the similarity of the two operating systems
Probably the most important os release of the last decade!
@MBP6705 sorry can i ask how macs GUI has changed... the older version of mac os i have used was i think 7 or 8 not too sure... its still the same just with a dock
does anyone know what the first few developer betas before them announcing Aqua looked like?
Good man
congratulations
@theif519 Or you can click and hold and voila! it is a right click, or you can click on the right side of the trackpad. There are many alternatives, but if u still want the 2 button mouse just but an external mouse. and OSX runs very fast for me.
@OOIEatte It does.
"Make the NeXT personal computer operating system"
I see what you did there, Steve...
Watching on OS X Mountain Lion (Early 2013, Retina Macbook Pro)
Jobs is like a cartoon character, he hasn't changed his outfit in 10 years.
@SyncAllData I think the Darwin kernel is open source. That's how OSx86, a project for getting OS X working on PC hardware, was even possible. And Steve Jobs did mention "Linux" in this presentation, but Mac OS X is based on NeXTSTEP, which is the operating system for the computer company NeXT Computer, which Steve Jobs worked in before joining Apple again.
Wow, revolutionary...
Wow. I wonder when’s the last time an apple event talked about a kernel..
At the time, Windows 98SE and Windows NT 4.0 were Microsoft's primary operating systems. NT 4.0 had 4 different versions on the market. 5 if you count the embedded version. Also Windows Me and Windows 2000 were right around the corner, and everyone knew or guessed that 2000 would also have several different versions like NT 4.0 had at the time.
Still the best looking OS paradigm.
watching this on a mac :)
When they run out of decimals, i guess. What difference does it make though?
Watching this on XP
Watching this on FreeBSD.
you can tell steve jobs is a good speaker. turn on subtitles. it actually picks up most of his words
I went to that confrence. they gave us the free optical mouses that they now come prebundled with every mac
Watching this on mavericks dp2 !!
I think they had stopped using the G3 by then, but I may be wrong. Did OS 9 run on the G4?
And now, 20 years later, we have MacOS 11
Yes.
couple questions i have mac os x 10.4.11 and my friend has mac os 9 can he update to 10 or does he have to buy tiger?
Because they both follow the POSIX standards (wiki it!), its a set of standards that many programmers felt was a great idea, allowing programs to run from one plateform to another without much/any code modification. Linus in his book "Just for fun" indicated that he followed the POSIX standards so in the long run when his system is up and running, he wouldn't have to rewrite everything such as copy list, move etc etc....
btw what court case are you talking about?
@peestandingup
hey man where do u get all of these videos??
is there going to be a mac os 11 or IV?
@WeEatBrainz no, that's not Comic sans; it's a Mac font and it is called "Marker felt" :)
2000:
We’re gonna have one OS
2023:
macOS
iOS
watchOS
iPadOS
how on earth could you find use for six macs?
and also, irreverentmoose was referring to the new CZcams app included in iPhone 3.0, not apps in general.
@bonchbonch Explain how on earth the registry slows your computer and explain how removing invalid entries speed it up. Windows does not "hang" when there's an invalid entry, an application will simply ignore it/overwrite it when accessed. Sure, it will leave it there, it and it's few bytes of storage, but in now way does it slow down a computer.
I will admit, booting OSX is a hella lot faster than booting windows, but once up and running, applications etc. launch much faster.
can you imagine Steve at a keynote saying I am going to introduce Mac Os 11 version 11.6 rough sagre shark? Thought not.
dat comic sans
+iamrichlol It's marker felt ;) slightly better than Comic Sans but definitely not the most appropriate font for a keynote.
Watching this on NeXt Cube.
Trafic light is still today :)
there is cut too! u just need to drag that file from one folder to another or any drive(optional or both), u dont need to press cm+c!
YEA!
Yes I was quoting Steve's quote for that very reason :)
I wish I had a Mac!
@bonchbonch Fragmentation happens across all filesystems (unless defragmentation methods are build into the FS) and cause slow access if the data is fragmented across the drivers. Now this only will slow down older and slower HDD's. If you get a modern HDD, there is no need for defragging. Also, with SSD's you cannot defrag them due to the random access capabilities (no head to move back and forth).
OSX never had a progress bar, just a spinning wheel. Also, no progress bar in XP +.
Happy 10th Birthday Mac OS X!
@themacbox Thanks very much dude! :)
Twelve years later they still use the same OS.
It’s hard to believe that Mac OS X is coming to a close.😢
@TheE3Guy i think around the time of the original imac was when it became a trademark, cause he used a suit and tie in that
I love everything Apple!
@metalmilitia89 I hope to say that soon when I switch to a Mac.
@jedixo They added spotlight and the dock, like you said, and they have more modern looking fonts instead of the older looking OS 9 fonts, and it just looks overall newer. I guess it hasn't changed all that much.
21 years later:
Introducing macOS 11
It’s been 19 years
20 years if this was 2000
20
the introduction of macOS 11 was very lame against this introduction.
@ash Tim is just naming it. Now calling Monterey 12, such a jump Steve would never have done. Monterey should have just been 11.2
There's respect for nothing nowadays. So sad
