The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from March 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobiles known as the pony cars. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition.
It was initially introduced on April 17, 1964, as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale in August 1964. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its platform with the Falcon, was slotted into a compact car segment.
With each revision, the Mustang saw an increase in overall dimensions and in engine power. The 1971 model saw a drastic redesign to its predecessors. After an initial surge, sales were steadily declining, as Ford began working on a new generation Mustang. With the onset of the 1973 oil crisis, Ford was prepared, having already designed the smaller Mustang II for the 1974 model year. This new car had no common components with preceding models.
The Mustang GT version was introduced as the "GT Equipment Package" and included a V8 engine (most often the 225 hp, 168 kW, 228 PS "289"), grille-mounted fog lamps, rocker-panel stripes, and disc brakes. In the interior, the GT option added a different instrument panel that included a speedometer, fuel gauge, temp. gauge, oil pressure gauge and amp meter in five round dials (the gauges were not marked with numbers, however.)[28] A four-barrel carbureted engine was now available with any body style. Additionally, reverse lights were an option added to the car from August 1964 production. The Mustang was originally available as either a hardtop or convertible, but during the car's early design phases a fastback model was strongly considered. For 1965, the Shelby Mustang was born, available only in a newly introduced fastback body version with its swept-back rear glass and distinctive ventilation louvers.[29] In 1965 they built 15,079 Mustangs that featured the GT Equipment Group.[30] For 1966, they built 25,517 GTs.[31] According to Jim Smart production guide, the fastback would have been the most common, followed by the coupe and then the convertible.

I use and used solder to make my door handles, window cranks, shifters, hinges for everything. I cut the doors and trunk open and usable. I use safety pins for many things as well. Back when watches were windup i used them for window gears, instrument clusters, engine pulleys. I miss modeling

Tasca is a Mesopotamian word meaning "small wild horse" or "crazy pony". So a Ford Dealer, named Tasca, sponsored a small wild pony - Mustang - at the drags in 1966. Some of that was not true - Mustang does not refer to a "small" horse, per se. There might be other untrue parts to the initial statement as well, but who cares? It's a scale model - cleverly assembled and artfully finished by Chris, our hpiguy in residence. Thanks again for sharing ! ! ! (and laughing...)

Not really a Ford fan but I used to get my older cousin's old Hot Rod magazines in the late 60s, early 70s. The TASCA Ford Mustang was a regular. In the "build your model like you like " department, If I get one, I think I will try the stripes on the hood with the scoop covering them and down the front. They look really nice. A great job as usual Chris. Always appreciate your work.
I like the background music too. Today's 2nd song made me think I was watching an old 70s detective show! 😂

thought I made a comment a while ago---but guess it didnt go through---been a fan for a good while---this is first(maybe second) comment---good to see this one back----also glad they did the proper rear pan with the exhaust and backup lights---(the original only had the exhaust ports)---some of the kits had a set of headers that could be connected to the stock exhaust---wish those had been included also the rally pack gauges for the steering column seem to have been left out----but hey I aint complaining---have two and expecting to get more----now I can build my high school ride and all the versions I had planned before my ride met its demise----and as to the gripers----as I always some people will "bitch" (pardon my language) if you hung them with a new rope----

I say build it how you want and not worry about getting it right. I am still waiting to finish my Fireball Roberts 1957 Ford Nascar kit, I ended up painting the interior black but I saw online replicas with red interiors. I am not going to split hairs on it to be honest as I think black is more correct than a red interior especially with the included silver cloth insert decal for the seats. I did super detail the kit though which is more than I have ever done on previous kits.
This kit how ever is on my wish list, I picked up the Chevy II Station Wagon curb side kit with plans of buying a 3D printed I6 engine to put under the hood. I dont mind the axle going through the engine, I kind of prefer it as it prevents you from getting too hung up on super detailing the kit.

Again an impressive decal sheet; I particularly like the door handle and window crank decals, those are definitely something I have never seen on any model kit before, and having recently completed the 1966 Galaxie, this looks like another relatively simple build and I always like the idea of different build options.

Don't clear coat the glass. Put it in after the decals are on and the clear is completely dry and after the chrome trim has been painted as you do. Use high gloss lacquer on your chrome. Spray it on the tree. You can drill the axle mounts deeper on the wheel backers instead of clipping the axle in most cases. Ive had to trim the axle housings down at times to make the wheels fit properly rather than rubbing the fender wells. Then you might have to clip the axle. Sometimes you have to make adjustments. The kits are not perfect all the time. Keep up the good work.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of car the box art is supposed to portray? I know Tasca was involved with drag racing, but the car on the box looks kind of like an SCCA car (no slicks). Tasca wasn't involved in road racing as far as I know. The only pictures I can find are of an A/FX car, nothing close to what's on the box. Driver Bill Lawton was a drag racer, so the car pictured seems like a not very accurate generic painting. I see some posters here had Tasca Ford connections, so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this. I'd like to build this as the car actually appeared, and this has always had me wondering.
