50mm is my go to lens but I tried getting into 35mm recently. Struggled alot, haven't given up and still trying to see through a 35.

Hi Rebecca! Thank you so much for making this video! I’m trying to figure out the best way to frame my couples with each lens to best showcase each focal length and this was so helpful! It was a bit difficult to pause on your side by side photos to study since it flashed by so quick!! Lol also, purchased your preset pack and I’m loving it!!

Ah I’m so glad! Thanks so much for purchasing the presets ❤️❤️❤️🤣 sorry about the photos going by so quickly. I figured people could pause them etc! But thanks for the feedback 😉 xxx

I would agree, the video was great, maybe 7 ish seconds for the comparisons may have been nice! To answer your end question if I had one of those primes... probably 50 for couple shoots. 35 has more versatility though, and if I was using one for photos and video then definitely the 35!

Great video Rebecca, I primarily shoot 35 and 85 combo however I recently bought a Canon 50 1.2 EF with a sigma adaptor for my Sony for its flare and I really love it. Maybe as its a focal range I'm not used to. Plus weirdly, I preferred the look it gave on all of your comparisons. Loving the content by the way, recently subscribed and you have some awesome videos!

Most of the time I preferred the 35 or 50. only in some examples the 85 was really the best.

Fab video Rebecca, super helpful! I currently have a 35mm and 50mm. I’m trying to decide between a 24mm or a 85mm for my next one. Decisions decisions 🤣. I also completely agree that primes make you a more involved and (potentially) creative photographer. I love to get all up in my couples business when shooting 🤣❤️

Love this Rebecca! 50mm is my fav but watching this has just convinced me on the 85mm more for portraits.
I’m a videographer so forgive my curiosity more on your shooter aha please do you know what lens/lenses he used to follow you?

I got all these 3 lenses. I love using the 85 but watching this makes me shoot more again on 35. And yes I am selling the 50. 😅

For shooting indoor wedding, is 35mm appropriate or should I invest in 24-70 F1.8 as well?

Let's keep this simple. It's not as if the photographer is an immoveable object, but has the ability to move forward, back up and frame an image however desired, even with a fixed focal length lens. THE SIMPLE RULE OF THUMB FOR PORTRAITURE IS: USE THE LONGEST LENS THAT WORKS FOR THE COMPOSITION. The longer the lens the better the isolation on the main subject. Now, if the scenery is of equal or greater importance, obviously the rule doesn't apply. BUT IF IT'S A PORTRAIT, 99 TIMES OUT OF 100 USE THE RULE!

@@RebeccaCarpenter to always experiment with different focal lengths and not to stick to such a dumb rule. I have also never heard of such a rule.
