    It should be important to note that depreciation is not because it’s a bad car…it’s because the price of new ones was lowered which impacted used ones.
    A 2021 Model Y was the first gen. Worst of the worst for Tesla. It was massively improved in the following 2 years.
    Also, it’s the best selling car in the World.

      Burroed them for sure. A BZ4X is a low mileage per charge EV, but it's built like a tank. Learned this from the famous mechanics channel. Props to those who landed a bx4x limited at 12k/year at 330 a month or base model at 10k/year at 189 a month. My buddy owns a model 3. It is a 2022 with 20k miles. That was the pre minor refresh / comfort suspension changes. Build qualities on Teslas are a lot better now. My 2023 Model Y with 23,000 miles has no squeaks, rattles, or creaks and rides well. I rented a 2021 Model Y from Hertz and like you, I thought it was a bucket of bolts. I was surprised at how much the brand has improved build quality in just a few years.

    This vehicle has been modestly customized. The Tesla badging is missing. Resale depreciation is not that terrible. Many $45,000+ CUVs that are 2021 MY are selling for mid 20's assuming 40,000 miles or so.

    • @terrancecloverfield6791
      @terrancecloverfield6791 Před měsícem

      Regrettably, what can really contribute to that poor resale value is that one is paying a lot for the software functions more than anything else. And what it does is applies tons of downward pressure on the previous model years to a terrible point. People who know, know. And the market reflects that. People who don't know what gold they have on their hand tend to try and sell their salvage cars at $30k, when reality it's worth half-that due to the loss of that battery/drivetrain warranty. So for the 2021 MY and earlier, maybe knock off an additional $5k to account for that out of pocket battery replacement cost.

      That purple wrap is tacky AF. I wouldn't be seen driving around town in a car like that. Not to mention, it's chipped up, which makes it look even worse. If the dealer wanted to present this car better for sale they could just (carefully) peel the wrap off - the paint should be like new underneath. Then put some new badges on it. Possibly even take it to Tesla and have the suspension issues looked at - the car is only 3 years old and still under warranty.
      I'd go so far as to suggest Ben Hardy took a fresh trade in that hasn't been prepped for sale and decided to rip the crap out of it for the clicks.

  • @mshackleton1
    @mshackleton1 Před 10 dny

    LOL - "The wheels have been changed." No - the standard wheels come with aero covers to improve efficiency/range. A lot of people take the covers off because the wheels underneath the covers look pretty nice and are happy to trade off the range loss. Which only really kicks in when doing a lot of highway driving.
    Depreciation on this car would be high because the previous owner has done a bunch of mods to it. A purple colour shifting wrap? Carbon fibre trim on the centre console? Not to mention, the wrap looks chipped, so if I was looking at that car I'd be thinking that I need to get the wrap removed at some point.
    If you do mods to a car that are a matter of extreme personal taste, don't expect to have a great resale.
    Also - those suspension issues - shouldn't the dealer be taking that car to Tesla and getting them resolved under warranty? The car is only 3 years old.

    @bobjakubik4381 Před měsícem +1

    Thank you Ben. I enjoy this series on depreciated vehicles. It would be interesting to see your take on a Dodge Challenger/Charger SRT Hellcat. According to Autotrader there are still over 1,000 of these new 2023 models. Several dealerships are attempting to pillage customers with a $50K markup. Unbelievable? Some dealerships have $10K discounts. That seems low considering that the floor financing is likely adding up quickly. Could you test a 2019 or 2020 since there are so many new 2023 models for sale?
