I was there a couple of days ago, it was on my must-do list for Canoe Lake. The directions are excellent, I'd just add my recommendation to navigate the swamp as far as you can (I was able to paddle right to the road culvert). A spiritual place, I'm in awe of the work it took in such a remote place. How did they get that engraved memorial there?
I was at the cemetery yesterday (May 14, 2017) and I noticed that the large birch limb that overhangs the graves has fallen down. It covers the Alexander Hayhurst grave and it has taken down part of the fence. The limb must have come down over the winter.
That really is a shame. Can I ask for help finding the grave site? Is it possible to get on that road by vehicle? If I rented a canoe at the Portage store, is there a spot I can park it? Sorry for all the questions but visiting this site is on my bucket list and I am gearing up to go this weekend. Thanks for any help you can give me.
I thought Tom was buried a way back from there. I was trying to decipher where it actually was by reading lore and well.... hints from Roy. I will take my answer on PM of course to keep it low key.
Tom Thomson adapted his style for youtube quite well for a dead man.
