The definitive countdown of the VFL/AFL's Top 50 goals of all time. Of course, due to the nature of televised games and the saturation of our sport in the last two decades, many of these goals come from the late 90s, 2000s and beyond.
Naturally, this is a subjective view and I'm sure you disagree with some of these goals or perhaps felt that I missed out a few great goals, so feel free to comment with your suggestions. Goals are ranked based on difficulty, flair, distance, time of the game and general public perception.
Sources for this video were mostly the "Greatest Goals of All Time" DVDs, editions 1 & 2. Goals not on that DVD were found on CZcams. Footage copyright of Sports Delivered and the Australian Football League.

Gary Ablett Srn in the 1989 Grand Final, taking the ball out of the Boundary Throw In, in the Pocket, then snapping a Goal, has got to be close to number 1.

Ablett's goal at no.19 was the best of the lot. Almost takes a great grab at centre half forward, recovers, fights off 2 opponents, breaks a tackle and goals on the run post-high from 50 out with a wet ball and in the mud! That goal craps on Hird's goal.
#50 stuart dew's goal against Hawthorn was in 2005, #24 Aaron Davey's soccer goal against Brisbane was in 2006, #35 Steve Johnson's amazing soccer goal against Richmond was in 2005, #34 Wayne Carey's unbelievable boundary goal was in 2003,

I stumbled upon a live AFL game on cable at 4AM one night back in 2004 and have been hooked since; and never watched a minute of boring American 'football' since ! 👍👍
Any of Tom Boyd's goals from the 2016 grand final could count for this. Especially that last one when Toyd scooped up the ball after it spilled free when Dale Morris tackled Buddy. "The stadium holds its breath..." I was there and will never forget how the noise went from being silent as the ball bounced through to the noise of 85 000 people screaming ( the Sydney fans were pretty quiet) in delight as they realized that 62 year wait was coming to an end. apart from the birth of my kids its the greatest moment of my life. Actually now that I think about it, I have two kids and one premiership. Nah, fuck it, the kid's will understand-that WAS the greatest moment of my life!

Those Indigenous boys are in a class of their own. What a treat these lads bring to the game. I’ve never forgotten Michael Long tearing the Crows apart 93 prelim. He owned the ball that day. Us Crows supporters just looked on and wept
Indigenous players are just in a league of their own when it comes to goal scoring, some of the things they manage to pull off are phenomenal

Good call on the Daicos #2 goal. Those pockets were the deepest ever pockets, even more than Football Park. That kick defied physics.

I reckon most important goal was Nick Davis to put his team into the preliminary final and then be premiers in 2005 breaking the 72 year premiership drought for the club.

Gary ablett senior 1989 grand final vs hawthorn jumps over the pack and snaps one of the greatest goals of all time should have been number 1 considering that the 89 gf has been talked about as the greatest game of all time by the afl

Eddie Betts & Peter Daicos probably have the best goals highlights reel in VFL/AFL history. Mercurial and impossible both sides of goal.

I agree most freakish goal & he meant it too amazing skill to execute under pressure knew exactly what he was doing (despite 2 SA defenders on him). One of the most amazing goals ever.

Most of these were trick shots. Fehring's goal (37) was a real bomb kicked from behind the centre line.

There's been a bit of support for this goal and rightly so. I think I considered at at the time, would happily slot it in somewhere around the 35-45 mark if I redid this video.
How about eddy bets goal in 2014 i think. It was aganst Collingwood at Adelaide oval.

Best goal I ever saw was Ted Whitten, at the Western Oval, circa about 1968, maybe a little later, rain pouring down, Teddy has the kick in the centre of the ground, the ball back in those days would have weighed almost a ton, waterlogged to the max, and he kicked a torp right through the middle.
All in glorious black and white on the ABC replays at 6pm on Saturday night.

James hirds goal wasn’t that great, maybe Carey’s goal in the 98 GF, or Lloyd’s goal vs North Melbourne (same game as when Carey boomeranged the goal). It’s always hard doing a list like this, you did well though. Major pluses was no music, no intro, or annoying voiceovers (like I’ve seen in a lot of videos that voiceovers kills what could be a great video). You did a great job

Where are all of Peter Daicos' miraculous goals? And the ones kicked by Gary Ablett Snr, Jnr, and Wayne Carey? Not to mention the miraculous goal that Tony Hall once kicked in a State of Origin match against Victoria from deep in the right forward pocket at Football Park? All of their goals would eat this list for breakfast!
