  • It started for GMCLA with this video. The movement grew dramatically. We have taken this video to the next step: it gets better Tour. wwww.itgetsbettertour.org
On October 24, 2010, members of GMCLA, along with their friends and supporters, gathered at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles to sing a song of hope. This is the result of that extraordinary afternoon.

More than 8 years after this was posted on CZcams, and I am seeing it for the first time. How did I miss it all these years? This is extraordinary! -- both the singing and the filming. It is so inspiring, and has probably saved lives. The great Cyndi Lauper deserves high praise for writing a singularly uplifting song and giving it to the world.

I sobbed through this whole thing. Thinking of the problems, the troubles, the suicides, the bullies. Don't let the bastards get you down, live your life free, live it as God gave it to you. Go for all the happiness that you can squeeze into your life.
This song, True Colors was performed so beautifully. Thank You Men's Chorus and Friends !!!

What a joy to hear and feel this performance! I think the diversity in this noble group of men is astounding. Watching this in Western Maine. It lost nothing in the coast-to-coast translation.Thank you for the song and message.

I cried for like 20 minutes after seeing this for the first time. I was raised by my lesbian mother and her long time partner. That alone was enough to put me on the bully hit parade. Even 20 years later, my friends and I still suffer verbal and sometimes physical abuse simply for daring to love whom we love. To see such talented men so openly supported by friends and family is a wonderful thing. BRAVO TO YOU BRAVE SIRS!!! BRAVO!!!

Congratulations. You are a holy being merely by existing. No aspect or facet of you, including your sexual orientation, is wrong or bad in the eyes of those who truly love you and the G-d who created you. It will get better. It got better for me. I had a great family, great friends and lesbian Rabbi who served to guide me through it. You have made the biggest step. You are now free - and with freedom ANYTHING is possible. I wish you only the best.

    dear GMCLA,
i´m a man, and i´m not gay, but i support you a thousand times!
i was bullied in school for years for being the little fat guy noone wants to have at a party and no girl wants to date.
i was beaten, called names and heard insults on a daily bases.
i changed my life, worked out, and now i have become a kickboxer and MMA fighter.
i know these horrors you went and going through for not fitting into whats called "normal", and i would always stand by your side and support you.
never let anyone who hates gay people tell you, that you are worth nothing, NEVER!
and maybe one day people will learn to stop being cruel and begin to live without prejudice.......because IT GETS BETTER.
    greetings from germany

There are those out there who do love you for who you are on the inside - all humans are beautiful! This is an absolutely wonderful song that I sang to my own children when they were babies many years ago. I remember holding them in my arms & rocking them in the rocking chair as I sang the words. I never thought I would hear this in a more emotional version than the original. I was mistaken this brought tears to my eyes and continues to do so. Kudos guys for making an emotional sone even more so.
This is a message that some gay people as well as some straight people could do with listening to and understanding.
To all those being bullied please take the words written at the beginning as the truth. It may not seem it but they are so true, and this is from someone who was bullied while growing up and even by other gay people. Please do not let the nasty bastards destroy you, as you *are* beautiful. I know have friends that if I just call and say help or I need someone to talk to they will drop everything and come to help me or listen to me no matter what, something I never thought would happen while I was being bullied.
It does get better you have my word for it, and I don't give my word lightly. I have learnt this and I hope you can too. I know for a fact it is hard to believe that when you are at your lowest, but it is true.

I have listened to this video so many times I've lost count and each time it still feels just as profound. This statement speaks to gay and straight people alike. Anyone who has ever felt discouraged, unaccepted, lost, insecure, etc. (which is most certainly everyone at some point in their lives) would feel encouraged by this video. Have you ever thought of creating an international virtual choir with this song? This video has already touched me and many others very deeply and I just keep imaging the incredibly powerful effect it would have if thousands of people from all over the world came together through music in support of the LGBT community and self-acceptance overall. Just picturing it gives me chills.

Looks, money, gym body, and every other thing we gauge our self worth against. Let us love each other and when we say "It gets better" We can say it with confidence. Great job guys!!!
