Nissan D21 Hardbody Clutch Issues: Wont shift into gear when running

- 1993 Nissan D21 (Hardbody) will not go into gear with the truck running. Here is what the issue was on my truck.
I changed the following.................
-Clutch Master Cylinder
-Clutch Slave Cylinder
-Rubber Line to Clutch Slave Cylinder
(((Tires still spun when started in gear with clutch pushed in.)))
So I pulled the transmission and found the broken spring on the clutch disk.
I then changed................
-Flywheel
-Clutch
-Pressure Plate
-Throw Out Bearing
((((While the transmission is off, you may want to change the rear main seal on your engine.)))) I did!
((((NOTICE: You are 99.999% likely to need a "Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing", so order one ASAP, or get one from your local parts supplier.)))) I did!
Transmission was cleaned with foam degreaser, followed by four soaks in "Purple Power Aluminum Brightener" from O'Rilleys.

Hi I daily a 86.5 D21 and have been working on a 88 WD21 thanks a lot for making videos to help me and others out.I have gotten a ton of info here. I posted a couple vids to show my progress Thanks again.
A wealth of information! I didn't get it all in one viewing and plan to watch it again when I haven't already had a beer. I have a roughly similar problem, but I suspect a different cause. Still learning.
I'm sober but I felt drunk when I was watching this video
This just happened to me today, luckily I have a stage one clutch on standby. I knew eventually the stock clutch would go since I drift mine. Lasted longer than I thought. Thank you!
No worries!
I put a "Clutch Max" stage one in mine with a new flywheel. The kit off of eBay.
I can't stand how grabby it is now. No give at all. Even a Stage 1 for a daily, I would never do it again. Other than that, well worth the $130.
@@PDofLA I got an EF stage one, hopefully it’s not a pain in the ass to drive I also semi daily mine, i guess I’ll see this weekend I’ll swap it out
@@ulnk You will feel a big difference from stock. I will say that much. Mine does not slip at all. Let up on the pedal, even the slightest and she is jerking. lol
Awesome video!
Thanks
OMG ty! Trying to restore my dad's datsun and ran into this problem 😑
Pulling a transmission on a 91’ Hardbody that sat for years in a field in Louisiana. It’s far enough off the dowl pins, about 1 inch from the engine but doesn’t want to separate. I think it’s rusted like yours was, gonna keep prying and pulling. Thx for the vid
Yep! If your pilot bushing it chewed up like mine was, it will definitely hold onto your transmission input shaft for dear life. Mine was also hard due to the upper dowl pin being swollen. Have fun, and PRAY you get years out of the little truck without having to do this job again.
Slave cylinder can make ur clutch hose twisted...when tight......also can leak thru threads
This happened to me and I had shifted through first after a jump started dot-dot-dot I replaced the master& slave cylinder and it's still acting funny and neutral but it goes into first and sounds kind of weird so I'm I'm expectint what you're going to say
I am having the same problem. Thanks for the info. Where did you get parts? I have a 2.7 diesel engine.
Luk works good.....Sachs does not include bearing installed on clutch sleeve....... It came with the bearing but I could not install it and neither could the shop.....
I have an 89 d21 we were driving and all of a sudden fourth gear just pops out an it’s hard to get it back in gear
Luk not good update😢... It gives a clutch fork vibration which might introduce air into the system through the slave cylinder I've had to bleed my clutch system every 6 days for over a year now I don't think it has a leak gonna check I rebuild the damper With 700 PSI gasket maker versus Kim
Everything on my 96 stock nissian hard body just recently started to go 35 mph in 1st gear anybody know why?
Probably the mass airflow sensor.
This exact thing literally just happened to me
That unit has much less rust than mine did.
This truck is trying to kill me. This is the worst clutch job I EVER done.
My Mazda 626 was ran through wet concrete by the previous owner before I bought it. And that clutch job was still a cake walk compared to this truck.
Down to re-installing the drive shaft, and I mushroomed the drive shaft bolt, trying to get the new carrier bearing on.
Where is my bud Unleashed, when I need him? 😄
@@PDofLA I don't know anything about clutches and transmissions. I'm always up to watch, learn, and pass tools . Unless there is another White Hardbody with fender mirrors around, I think I saw it on 16 this morning, road on side it for a minute.
So are you upgrading?
ClutchMax® Stage 1 Clutch Kit and HD Flywheel
Torque Capacity: 285 lb-ft
Horsepower Rating: 265 HP
WAY MORE than I need for now, BUT, if I do get some money for my engine build and turbo kit, she will have enough to handle what you shown on the Piss Missle.
ED. I got an issue. Maybe you ran into the same issue on G Moneys truck? (Same height)
I tried (THREE) carrier bearings. All of them fit great from the trans to the cross member. (Front Driveshaft)
BUT
When I go to put the rear driveshaft on, it pushes the carrier bearing forward towards the transmission about 3/4 to 1".
It makes the carrier bearing look pregnant. lol
Did you guys change the carrier bearing on G's truck?
If so, what part #?
Did you have any issues with binding up of the drive shaft, with it lowered, with the new carrier bearing?
It's like the bearing sits "Perfect" in it's perch, but the rear driveshaft grew a inch since I removed, and replaced the damn carrier bearing.
Any help?
@@PDofLA I do not recall having any issue with the carrier bearing but I will look at the truck tomorrow my first rule is if it was not like that till you messed with it then you may have something off a little take a video for me so I can see what is going on
@@PDofLA do the lsd conversion it works great
@@WhoopAzzRacing 🤣 I just commented on your short about it. I hope my bud Russel never see's that upload. I would never hear the end of it.
Yeah I had this issue back in 2015 when I first got the truck, and tried 4" blocks.
I forgot what bearing I ended up with, but I did end up with 3" blocks, cut with the correct pinion angle. And my bearing finally sat correct, and no issues at all until now.
Bro Is that the Omnitrix?
🤣 Finest state of the art technology right their!
Blah blah blah 🙄get on with it people know infamous Nissan 😆🙄no one wants to hear a life story
