This video has dramatically shifted my views on Machiavelli’s philosophy. Being Christian myself, I’ve also pondered when and how use of force can (or should, but I would be wary of people who invoke the word *should* when discussing violence, Christians included) be used for the sake of maintaining order. A lot of people aren’t aware that Afghanistan was filled with Buddhists before Islam came along, and that the arrival of Muslims led to the extermination of most of the Buddhist population. What good is a civilization or morality if you allow people to run roughshod over everything? What good is a moral life if any idiot Bolshevik can come along and warp and manipulate and lie their way around your life, only to close in when the conditions are favorable in order to dispatch with your life? I still think Machiavelli’s philosophy is misunderstood and misapplied, but that’s a damn good point he made about the moral vacuum that is left when chaos is present and active in one’s life. Astounding video. I’m glad I came across this gem of a channel!
An important point M. makes in The Prince - good and bad is defined by the consequences. If the ruler does what is considered moral but it only brings his realm and people misery, what good is that? Because ruler is resonsible for his people, he must sometimes be cruel or closefisted to be good. It will do more good than harm and therefore is moral
Yeah exactly and that’s what makes him a disgusting human being, that’s the same logic the worst tyrants of all time used good and bad is defined by God full stop
Relying upon his virtu alone means he needs to think of all possible outcomes and anticipate what could go wrong... I imagine this is why as soon as someone rose to be kind, he killed all his possible aspirants to the throne including family members. And women used to kill their sisters' kids or destroy them somehow so their kid was the only one to ascend to the throne.
Might mean you're having trouble digesting it or you're already past this point of thinking and it serves you no purpose. This was an interesting revaluation of Machevelli and it puts his writings along with others at the time in an interesting context. Atleast in my opinion. He also mentions several works I'd like to look into.
Thats adorable.. the false superiority of the head shake. Your comment would be right at home under most of the content on CZcams but to place it here just means youre out of your depth and beyond the pale 🦂

Thanks for this video, and thank you for your hard work
Chapter 15, "we should take our bearings from how men do live instead of how men should live". And here starts the modern mess.
Yeah that’s possibly the worst fucking advice I’ve ever heard
In order to understand Machiavelli one must read his Discourses on Livy
Or just read neither screw both of them
22k subs and one of your vids on Machiavelli only 2k views.

hey man, can you make a video on books to read about philosophy?
Not all unarmed prophets fail, as Machiavelli realized, keeping a prime example to himself. Question: is Machiavelli himself an unarmed prophet?
AI voice?
Very good video 😎
Both. It’s both.
Misunderstood ... in my personal opinion
I would say amoral.
