Legend man 😎🎸
Great performance. Best Irish rock band ever. RIP Phil Lynott
Cowboy Song.
Saw them in '77. No gimmicks, no triggered instruments, no video backdrop, just two guitars, bass and drums. Look at that crowd -- no cell phones, no fatties, no tattoos... I miss the 70's.
No fatties. You have gotta love that -= fuck you McDonalds and Hungry Jacks :)
"No tattoos" lmAO Yeah soooo nice seeing women with out beyond ugly graffiti shat all over their beautiful bodies.
No fatties Lol
No, nothing cell phones-
They should make a movie out of Phil Lynots life. It's just as tragic as Freddy Mercurys life. He was also a musical genius. He was a brilliant song writer. And one of the most underrated bassist of all time. He was also the chief lyricist of the band. In the end drugs did him in. What a loss. Oh ! P.S. Why is Thin Lizzy not in the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their just as good as Queen. In fact they blew Queen of the stage in Houston in 1977. Live and Dangerous is just as good as Live Killers by Queen. Their albums are more hard rock and more consistent than any Queen album. They should be in the Hall of Fame !
who cares about the Hall of Fame??
I dont think he is underrated - never heard anyone saying bad things about his play.
Henrik Carmel True. But unfortunately, your casual music fan couldn’t even tell you who he is or who Thin Lizzy is.
Queen never wanted to be just a hard rock band, but they could rock as hard as any of their contemporaries in their prime (The 70's) including Thin Lizzy.
@@erictoniaschwab1009 all they know is 'Boys are Back'.
Without the internet, these kind of performances would be lost forever

Rest in peace Gary moore and phil lynott ...legends
Scott and Gary shredding and Phil on of the best frontmen in rock and roll history. Still sounds great today , timeless and brilliant
Yeah I was too young but I remember hearing them in late 70s as a kid but got into them thru Gary’s solo live record in 82 AMAZING and recently going back to this era. This is awesome. And killer. lol Lynott was a bad ass.
One of THE best frontman ever!❤ Greetings from Boston, Massachusetts Amerikkka quite literally!
Ireland will never produce such a powerful unit again. Rest easy Gary and Phil. Thanks for the soundtrack of my teens.
@@johnnyandluther And Gary? or does he not fit into your romantic Irish narrative because he's one of those "others"?
@@RUDI-UK I could really go for a big sandwich right now
@@RUDI-UK not sure how anyone could fail to appreciate what Gary Moore brought to the band. Still the greatest guitarist I’ve ever heard. Even his blues stuff was kick ass. So yeah, I’m with you, very much Phil AND Gary.
@@johnnyandluther To put the record straight, Philip Parris Lynott Born 20 August 1949 West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, my home town & 3mths after I was born.
One one hand, I agree with yo u boyo, but I'm tinkin' we might capture lightning in a bottle again yeah. U2 did us proud aye. But Thin Lizzy was just GRAND!!! IF the music industry don't destroy it all first mate. Slainté. 🍻
43 years ago! We’re still out there 💥
R.I.P. Philip Parris Lynott. That was a majestic live performance!!!!!!
one of the best bands ever.
Hands down ;)
You're speaking the truth with this one brother.
No The best band ever.
Back when kids loved rock n' roll...........I miss these days :(
I have a rock music channel..come and see.
So true🙃
I went to this. No-one has said it was a FREE concert. The event of the year. Awesome.
It was indeed free and I was there too. We were sitting on the steps front, lucked a good spot. Remember when someone cut off the electricity not long after this vid ends but they got it back up and played for quite a while longer. Damn good concert!
Yes. Before FM radio it was basically 2SM and they staged 'Rocktober' as a free gig. What a setting at the Opera House.
so very cool. Oz rocks.
One of the greatest rock band of all time bar none
Phil had the audience in the Palm of his hand.
haha I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 17, still at school, went there with my best mate, had a great time.
Michael Hollibone Yep - I would have turned 19 in April '78 and I vividly recall this gig as one of the highlights of a misspent youth that included so many legendary Aussie bands - Chisel, Birdman, the Oils, Angels etc. I would have given anything to be Scott Gorham in 78 - blazing guitar solos and that hair. Most of us looked more like Dee Dee Ramone but I'm sure he had his share of groupies too :D
Michael Hollibone great Michael!!! ;)
Michael Hollibone Iwas at the tour in Glasgow the following year aged 16 with my best mate Billy who had just passed his car test..AWESOME!!still feel the buzz from the concert driving home...
***** me too buddy
+Michael Hollibone I was there too! remember when I punched your lights out, in the parking lot, afters, for running your mouth? run it again and see what happens.
That’s so awesome. You get to see Thin Lizzy and Gary Moore!!!
Hell yeah man!
Yeah, they had Gary Moore in because Brian Robertson was out of action with a hand injury. Why Brian Downey isn't there I don't know...
Gary was so into his playing, jumping around and never missing a note. These guys are the best band ever.
Gary Moore, you are a huge, huge legend in the guitar community.
Thin Lizzy will be never be matched. They are majestic. Perfect Rock Songs. Wow.
I thought that was Brian Robertson, not Gary Moore.
@Tom Jackson Brian Robertson,
@@chirkolo: It's not Brian Robertson. He'd left in '78. Gary Moore became Lizzy's official guitarist that same year, and this is '79. It's Gary Moore.
Yeah it’s Gary Moore a great player but no better than the hugely influential Brian Robertson
Who wouldn't want to play guitar for Thin Lizzy. Such great songs to play.
Weird that nobody gives Scott Gorham props for being a mainstay TL and Phil's right hand man.
Agreed.
Everybody knows . A Lizzy hero.
I do. Have always done. Shall always do.
Well...it goes without saying really, same with Downey.
Not true... Scott is appreciated by the Fans.
Phil was an amazing man. Left too soon. Left his legacy for us to keep, love and carry on. Love this man.
what's not the love. He was magical. Still is, untill this day. Love Phil and Philomena!!
1978, Lynott top of his game
No epileptical image cuts, no hyperactive light shows, no frantic lasers, no eyesoring advertisment on stage - but just a very big lot of great old fashioned musicality and funky clothes! Love it, yeah!
And no bloody Ticketmaster either!
I was there that day. I was 15 !
What an honor! I salute you, heavy metal veteran 🤘
Amazing gig, the likes of which you will never see again, and a big shout out to Mark Nauseef on the kit, he was a beast here - really driving the whole band!
I'm a big fan of Gary, and I'm SOOO glad to see young Gary play here!!! Thank you for the video!!! 💙👍🏻
The one and only Gary Moore!!!!
Thin Lizzy is Rock n Roll. One of the best band ever. Great writing. Great front man. Great vocals, singing, musicianship, the list goes on. Thanks for the upload. This is great.
Attention today's young people, this is called Rock Music.
Attention old guy: Nobody needed you to point this out in a condescending manner.
Mark I agree with you.👍✌👍
Sounds like someone got their feelings hurt. Lighten up. The old guy is just making a point. Most young people these days listen to crap.
@@thomascusik6109И это НЕоспоримый ФАКТ.
Greatest harmony lead band ever, if this doesn't make you want to have a Les Paul and a Marshall nothing will. Today's bands pale in comparison.
Pure gold, leaving dust to other bands even after 40 years
I didn't wait for Thin Lizzy to have a Les Paul. I don't think Les Paul are for something in their sound, it's only high distortion and any amplified instrument plugged into a distortion or OD or fuzz stompbox is able to sound like that...see Iron Maiden: Dave Murray use to play strat, with a lot of delay, it sounds heavy. Explorer, Flying V, SG, Jackson, BC Rich, Gretsch, Telecaster and Strats would have sound the same in Moore and Gorham's hands...
Amen, Bill, amen! A Marshall, a Les, a wah and, if you’re feelin extra funky, a phaser or univibe. Done.
Helluva bass player and singer.....love this song ! The way he changed the bass line from the original song there......nice job! RIP Phil Lynot
16:52
RIP = Phil and Gary - 2 great legends sorely missed!
Gary Moore finest guitarist ever!
I can't argue with you....
@callyharley 👍
Correct
Great blues player!!!
I saw them with Queen and they stole the show.Scott Gorham is so underrated.Gary Moore is an all time great.Phil is a legend.
I hope you see this comment rampage44km... I just read in classic rock that at a gig on the 1977 tour, Gary Moore broke on stage and did a solo during Queen's set. Would you have been there? Cheers
Actually the first concert I went to - fall 1976. The gong on 'Soldier of Fortune' comes from the gong Roger Taylor used for the start of 'Tie Your Mother Down' (both songs in G - both gongs in G) - you can see it behind Phil on the cover of Live And Dangerous. ;)
The genius of Phil......lives on.
41 years ago today. 29 October 1978. I wish I had seen Thin Lizzy when Gary Moore was with them.
Ooh, ooh I did! I was at this concert.
Saw the Lizzy with Gary Moore in a little club in Birmingham called Barbarella’s round about 1974 about the same time as that mega single came out called Little Darlin’. Mega gig, never forgot that night.
My heart still bleeds for these boys. Legends.
I was there! Awesome!!
What an amazing gig rock at it's very best spent a big part of my 20's following them around the UK I love these boys I close my eyes and I can still see Phil and Gary above me onstage as if it were yesterday ROCK IN PEACE BOYS !
SAW THIN LIZZY IN OXFORD 1978 , I WAS 15 AND THE BEST BAND I EVER SEEN LIVE !!!!!
MAN! Lizzy puts on one explosive live show!!!
I was at this concert ,still remember how good they were xx
That energy and stage presence from every band member....
I saw the great band in Melbourne at Festival Hall, when I later lived in Texas and played drums ,when we did the Cowboy Song , well the memories of seeing that band would almost make me cry (almost !). Phil and Gary ,huge loss to music.
The amount of cameras angles and live cutting is impressive for the late 70’s.
Was there ever a more melodic hard rocking badass twin guitar band perfection as THIN LIZZY !!

@@jerrylalhminghlua874 think she means @88 years of age. Be with your beloved baby again. And up there Phil will have someone watching his Guiness intake!
@@BasVossen Thank you..greetings and all good vibes from Mizoram, north - east India... I've know Thin Lizzy from the late 70's, I'm 53 now..the best rock band, no tech add-ups, just raw talent..
The sound quality isn't to good, but the power of this gig and the the band in general, is really something. And the audience is really within the music. This is so cool, I love it and the raw power of Phil and his bandmates. Thank you for the upload
Such an incredible lineup for this show
God-DAMN - Gary Moore AND Scott Gorham!
I think the people who filmed this did a great job.
Agreed.
except they don't seem to know that during a guitar solo you should focus on the guy playing the solo. A common mistake when non-music fans direct the cameras.
@@JonnieCometLtd Totally true. Completely CLUELESS.
i was there. I was 19. Fucking awesome!
I often think that guitarists need a band to constrain them, Gary Moore is a good example. I think he was perfect for Thin Lizzy and Thin Lizzy was perfect for him.
I don't agree. Gary Moore is terrific but was always something of a primadonna - needed to be the star. He was best in a band where he's the only guitar player, as he was when he had his own act(s). For a guy that didn't want to be part of Thin in 1973, he appears to slot in rather well with them in 1978 (due only, I would say, to the departure of hard-drinking, fist-breaking Brian Robertson). But I'd contend the over-emotiing here is emblematic of his need for more particular attention. Still, at least he knows the material well enough :)
There’s some great musicianship going on there ! RIP Phil 💗💗
Man, Gary Moore looks like he's having the time of his life.
DanR67 yeah he's a great player but he looked like a silly pingpong ball bouncing all over like that. Scott Gorham was much cooler as was Brian Robertson (sorry). But I suppose neither could hold a candle to Moore. Robbo always looked up to Moore and even Gorham admitted he wasn't as accomplished as Robertson was. But I always liked that lineup the best (Gorham-Robertson). It's too bad what happened with Robertson but when you're young and foolish I suppose...!
DanR67 thought it was BR. They look so similar
Moore was very high then...
Daniel Rampazzo You can't beat the originals to any band, which is probably why you like Lizzie in the first place, need I say more.
+Daniele Acquavera Gary Moore is not there. It's Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham.
Holy moly they are so good!
to anyone watching this video: YOU'VE FOUND IT
Finally, I'm home 👍👍👍
Scott is so awesome
I just kinda got into Thin Lizzy within that last few years. I always knew of Thin Lizzy & to be quite honest a lot of his hit songs i didn't even know were by Thin Lizzy & i'm amazed how many great songs he has that i had no idea were his. & as a bassist myself of 25yrs Phil Lynott is one bad ass 4-string ringer.
Man, those were rock giants. And guitar gods. What a duo of guitarists! Phil introduced both as lead guitar.
they ARE both lead guitar. The great luxury and best feature of Thin LIzzy, musically.
He did the same both times I saw them.
If you had 1 wish to be at 1 concert at anytime throughout the ages then this would be my pick!
I feel you bro
This
And Hendrix isle of wight
I was there, you’re right it was amazing and can you believe it was free!!!!
1978 was the year I was born. Sometimes I regert the fact that I never had the pleasure and the privilege to see Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott fronting them... Still.. I am a Lizzy Fan since my brother showed me Bad Reputation. When I grew older I purchased all the Albums... and I am proud to have them here in my shelf, but there is one Album that changed my life. Thunder and Lightning! Badass Album.
Wow, kickass! Didn't know they were this good. Now that's a rock band! Excellent lead players. Lynott's voice is so unique, especially in Jailbreak and Boys are back in town.
OMG what a gem! I was 7 years old when this happened. Man I appreciate this so much!
There will never be music like this again.
Anthony Catley you are wrong
today's music ain't got the same soul ! it's just rap rap yap yap ! you think there will be bassists / singers like phil lynnot / roger waters etc....
NEVER !
Sad to think
@@salchaw probably not but we can at least try. Gary moore was the best guitarist to ever live though...
i'd say ONE of the greatest guitarists that ever lived ! he left us very young . R.I.P gary ...
One of the best rock n roll bands ever. Their music still sounds great, the true test of time.
Underrated LEGEND, Phil Lynott
Gary Moore was simply the best guitarist to walk this earth. The man could flawlessly play rock, blues, metal and jazz. Never bound to any one style, and his passion is still unmatched to this day. We were very blessed to have him.
Thin Lizzy music was great no matter who was playing guitar. They were all bad ass pickers, with a love for playing. The two here, Brian Robertson, John Sykes, Eric Bell. Awesome, Glad to have heard them. Just great music. RIP Phil, Gary
great comment you had to be great to play with lizzy .
Amazing bunch of guitarists.
You forgot Snowy white as well or did you bypass China Town and Renegade
And Midge Ure!
I love the enthusiasm coming from phil! He was an astounding front man and I have to admit his style is amazing. Absolutely loving the aqua jacket. Rock N Roll would be incomplete without lizzy 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Crazy thing i learned about lizzy its crazy. The bass player and drummer hold the structure together while the guitars break out in two different octaves giving the world an eargasm phenomenal shit. It sounds like two bag pipes going off electrified its fucking crazy and genius, pure genius. I believe they were a true phenomena.
Wow. Gary Moore was a madman on stage.
I think he just had a bit too much coke that day...
@@mojoblues66 Yeah, this isn't typical Gary "behaviour" 😂 love to see it though, never missed a note!

I had a pair of Cuban heels boots like that!! great stuff lost but not forgotten
Hey hey hey!!! Thanks for putting this up here, many things have been said about Lizzy, many people have great memories of how their music took them and affected them, always ,always for me, they made me feel good, made me feel that life was just about feeling how you were. Thin Lizzy were a one off, never to be repeated or better. End
Fantastic ! Iconic Band . Gone but Never Forgotten . R.i.p. Phil Lynott ( ICON )
Thanks for posting.
I'd bought Fighting, JailBreak and Johnny The Fox when they were new. Loved them.
Then I bought Black Rose, intro to the Great Gary Moore and inner sleeve shots from this gig.
Amazing !!
I think Fighting and Night Life are grossly underrated. But surely Jailbreak, Bad Reputation and Black Rose are the very best albums.
Thin Lizzy é sensacional.
I saw them in Newcastle, north of Sydney, my first rock concert. I actually had their records already too. I remember the sound pressure pushing the volume out of my lungs like a mild winding, drunk people being stood on, and thongs (the footwear) being thrown onto the stage. I'll never forget it.
So glad i found this Gem! :)
Gary Moore rocked me here!
Its sounds more metal with Gary ..before Sykes
Outstanding gig. My all time favorite band back in the days. Saw them at the age of 16 and been a huge fan ever since. Excellent song writing, energetic performance and personality. Hard to find these days.
Especially the excellent song writing bit.
Gary Moore was so tight! We really loved them in Oz. Thank you Kenny Everett.
He was the best bassist that ever used a pick.
Thank you Ireland. I miss Phil and the boys a little more each day. What a rock and roll band.
Love this band with all my heart.
Metallica, Maiden, Motorhead, Nirvana, foo fighters, Megadeth and Queen are unreal for me but Lizzy are 1 of a kind and are my favourite 🤘🏻
I am an old man and there are many things I did in my time that I regret. But there is nothing I regret that I did not do accept one thing. I wasn't at this concert.
Pretty amazing show.
if the
te was one concert in the history of rock this is the one i wish i was there my god i miss the 70s and the pot
I saw them every time they came through Philadelphia. Only the 1980 Chinatown show wasn't excellent.
My favourite was the Tower Theatre show of 20 Oct 1977, the night from which the 'Still Dangerous' live album was done. That's me letting out the blood-curdling scream between 'Soldier of Fortune' and 'Jailbrak'. :)
I did 2nd shift clean up crew mate , and let met tell you it wasn't no picnic picking up the used condoms , gum and urine .
Look at Phil Lynott... miss him as well as Moore (referring to Mr. Tim Hanson's comment). Thank God for video, even though they're gone they never really do leave us!
THANKS FOR HAVING THIS TO VIEW. WATCHING THIS IN 2020 ITS SO SURREAL....I WAS UP NEAR THE FRONT AGED 16 YRS! HOW CRAZY TO SEE THE THE FOOTAGE!,WHY DID THIS BAND NOT GET THE AIR TIME THET DESERVED?!

Great to see the lineup with Gary, saw him in Wolverhampton a few years before he passed, awesome as always.
Isn't Wolverhampton the home of Robert plant's fave English football (soccer) team, "the wovererhampton wanderers"?

This line up had so much energy at this gig . This was Lizzy at there best for my taste .

👍
I absolutely loved Gary Moore but Scott Gorham was a solid rock in Lizzy through all the line ups.
it could be argued that, next to Phil, or with Phil, Scott Gorham IS Thin Lizzy. He was Phil's most loyal bandmate, co-writer and friend; and will still say so.
Yes thank you Thin Lizzy for bringing on Gary Moore to us!!
I was there! Stage left. Fifteen, blew my mind!
