Now you got me laying awake all night dreaming about all of the great things that can be done to some of the older classic Whites metal detectors.
Like the MXT, the TDI SL, the GMT and the DFX.
There is much that can be improved.
Detector mods has my tdi beach hunter to repair it will be interesting to see what he makes of it
@@roymanewell4958 the tdi is basically a Eric Foster design detector.
@@roymanewell4958 The forum... detector prospector has detailed information on modding the SL... anything you find may be of some later use. They modded the battery to run at 16 volts +/- and some new improved upgraded parts for better performance.

I have a new... brand new TDI SL that I said I would never mod... but this is a beyond belief performance game changer like no other and we all know the TDI could use an upgrade in small gold performance and detection.
This modded 4500 is in the realm of the very best (most sensitive VLF's) like the Goldmaster 24K, GMT E Series... and a much expected greater depth performance in hotter soil conditions than a standard high frequency VLF!

I can see situations were this would be very useful, but can it be turned down by the user if the user doesn't want to detect flour gold? Say I'm in a creek known for small gold but I'm looking for nuggets? And can change the discrimination so that I'm not detecting every ferrous material out there?
I'm still watching the video. You may have answered this in the video. If so no worries responding. It's just very interesting and I had to ask before i forgot to.
Use the variable frequency that is added to reduce the response to tiny gold and boost big gold detection.

Great job I just got rid of my old 4000 I only use my 6000 these days love finding gold in rock as I have a jaw crusher and ball mill any upgrades similar for the 6000.
I have been doing both 6000 and 7000 detectors for some months.
You could make a metal detector that only detects coins and does not detect metal at a depth of 20 inches, I ask God for that miracle, thank you, greetings from Taos, USA.
This can be done but it would incorporate the processing power of a laptop to analyse the signal.

i still find nice bits of gold were the new 6000 7000 have been running in sp/extra in old workers heaps i run over them in sp/extra if i think its a target i dug 6 inches out recheck in enhance i run and old 4500 made in around 15 years ago in Adelaide factory.no backpack rubbish i run a camcorder battery and speaker amp combo with small lithium battery and charger board all fitted into a cb 27 speaker with a 14 inch elite mono .i think if its modified up i will pull even more bits out but I'm extremely happy with its performance as it stands.
I havent been sufficiently motivated by your mod videos till now. Now im very impressed and wondering how much it will cost to get my 4500 doing this with a 0.0025 slug. Will it still work with my sadie, dd, 11 nf, 17 elite. Will it operate with my multi channel bluetooth.? I am interested

@@LearnTheWild it’s only a non spaced litz wire bundle, very high capacitance, it’s a wonder that coil even works.
Looks promising... but until I see it with a proper coil on and a like for like comparison with another un-modded detector (otherwise exact same hardware + settings) so we can see/hear differences between the two... these sort of videos don't really do enough to convince me of anything.
You will be waiting for a while as the temperature was 1 degree during the week, and my workshop has heating..lol
@@DetectorMods Fair enough -- I'll be keeping an eye out for future videos in anycase -- and I am genuinely interested in getting the mod once I see more data/comparison videos, not just trying to be an ass! I do appreciate the time/effort you put into this stuff.
