  • Her career was full of promise, musical as well as film. RIP, Laura. You came off with more than a "bit" of class. August 26 is such a sad day.

    The argument of the movie was bad and Laura admitted it: "I did 'Mugsy's Girls' with Ruth Gordon. It was a really bad, silly film." but she appreciated the experience acting with Ruth (Oscar winner, died in 1985), saying: "It was great to be with her. We became friends. She lived and breathed and ate acting. She didn't have a lot of energy. As soon as that camera rolled, she was like a different person."

    Laura Branigan in 1984, her most successful year!, very famous as singer at that time, it would have been great to hear "Gloria" and "Self Control" in this movie, was a great opportunity. She made a good acting, always very expressive and spontaneous, I think Laura had all the necessary potential to participate in films of emotional content, about the struggles of life and heart, perhaps this happened because her management failed in this regard.

    My pleasure, barteek. I know the people who should be sharing everything are holding it for financial gain. And, I know that she would hate that. Anything I run across, is for her other half. You.

      The problem is how I see it... No matter what feminists would say, but It's almost impossible for women to do a big career in show business without support from a men.. For example Cher - she began with Sonny, who was neither producer, nor the most talented musician in the world - but he gave her the first "push" that she needed, and they made a hit show together before she became a solo star. ABBA girls - were behind their husbands backs, who were composing their beautiful songs, that made the band a legend. Carpenters - no matter what people say, that Karen was the real star, but I doubt that world would have ever heard about her at all, hasn't it been for her brother, Richard, with his perfect sense of music and ability to choose material that would fit her like a glove, while nobody even believed they could succeed, among all that hard-rock, acid-rock hystery by the end of 60s-beginning of the 70s.. Sandra Cretu (one of the greatest european disco stars of the 80's) - again, her then husband, Michael Cretu made her a pop star. Celine Dion - the same. Madonna - no comments, everybody knows how she made her way to the top...
      Sooo... We all can make a conclusion...

    I agree. So badly managed. From the beginning. She reached the height she had on her voice & the famous self control video, which was her Achilles Heal, was her vision. She had the talent, the projection, the beauty. She attracted leaches. She figured that out, but by then, the damage was done. She was a joke in the industry & no one would give her a real platform. Ironically, the same happened to Micheal Bolton. I'd hate to be him. his biggest success, the world knows, someone did it better.

    • @Finnochka
      @Finnochka Před 5 lety

      What do you mean by "she was a joke in the industry"? And why the "self control" video was her Achilles Heal?
      What damage was done to Laura?

      I know this comment is 9 years old (wow!) and as someone who only recently (about 3 months now) became a huge fan of Laura Branigan, cause unfortunately she was a bit ahead of my time.. I wasn’t even born when she was at her peak but after reading and learning everything I could about her career , I realized very quickly that her career could’ve and SHOULD HAVE been much more than what it was! I know it’s kind of a reach but can you explain what you meant by her being seen as a “joke” in the industry? How bad was she truly managed? Thank you, regardless, the channel has so many amazing videos of Laura and I’ve learned a lot about her because of them ❤️

    • @runandplay
      @runandplay  Před rokem

      @@eggzamonkey The way she was managed, by Susan and then (her husband) Larry, it wasn't as effective as her talent was. She should have gone with an agency once she hit the top.
      Just as with Judy Garland, she was never managed properly. The "joke" is that she should have been huge.

    I remember that movie being marketed as "Delta Pi" in a local newspaper. Even if it sucks too hard, I'd still love to see it uploaded on here.
    I too feel bad about what could've been with her career & vision. I see it wasn't just because she couldn't be aggressively adorable & smart like Madonna.
