    I had a friend who pulled reefers for years, he showed me that a simple hand made flag he made from a coat hanger with a shop rag tied to it, that he could wrap or loop around the tank fill spout, beneath the cap, and just bend the hanger out so it stuck out to enough for the flag to show him exactly where the tank was in relation to the pump. He also said it can be as simple as a stick and a piece of paper towel, or even a piece of trash for the flag. Anything that could be harmlessly propped in there and be seen in the mirrors.
    This step is not always necessary for a pro, but it does eliminate the guess work. Hope this trick helps somebody out.

Question about the DEF and why it is using so much ? Why ? Is it a smaller tank or what ?? Just seems weird. Have a good one and thanks for sharing my friend.

    Hope all is well. Thanks!

    • @JJtheTrucker
      @JJtheTrucker  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey Elias. It's an item that gets paid to us. There's some calculations that Prime uses that takes a quantum scientist to understand, it it's basically a portion of the fuel costs that are given back to us to help out. It's in addition to the fuel discounts we get at the pump.
      Last week I paid $556 retail for tractor fuel.
      I got a discount of $150, plus a surcharge of $257.
      My net fuel cost was only $149!

    Hi JJ been following you for some time now and really like to see someone with common sense for a change. I was an OTR driver from 1972 thru 1989 back in the good old cab over days. I ran many different trucks and my favorite was a Freightliner Powerliner that had a Detroit 8V92TT that got 3 miles to the gallon in the mountains, but fuel was cheep and did not matter. I guess you can figure out how old I am now. Trucking has changed over the years I think to the better with technology but the professional driver has really gone down hill except for drivers like you. Its all about the training in my opinion. Anyway I was watching your video on fueling the Peterbuilt and not forgetting to put the cap back on and this is how I never forget. When I worked in the aviation industry we were trained when finished fueling to remove fuel hose and replace tank cap before putting the fuel hose down or away. If you follow this rule all the time you will never question yourself if you put the cap on or not. I do this with everything I fuel, even my lawn tractor. I you are not sure you put the fuel cap back on you can pull over and check. If you forget to put the fuel cap on an aircraft and it is not caught on preflight you can't just pull over in flight and the fuel will probably be sucked out due to air speed. Anyway put the cap back on before you put the hose away or put the fuel can away. Hope this helps and makes sense. Richard in Georgia

    Every make & model of truck has its quirks hood or bad it’s a trade off you probably liked things Freight shaker better then the Pete and vica versa my recommendation is your next power unit should be a western star they do customization on the Mounting and location. Of. Hardware & switches & gauges & handles & what nots whithen reason yes they are a expensive truck but it’s your money maker office and home

    I feel like they should have made some sort of neck to go between the space between the cover and the faring...sorry don’t know the names of the parts. That’s a bad design of a station, the fact that the fuel islands don’t match up should not have been designed like that.

    you made a mistake.when asked what's it like refueling a Peterbilt the correct response should have been " EXPENSIVE very EXPENSIVE " ..haha... why not fill the def first ? not locks on the tanks ? come to England and you would need to fill up every day..lol

      Good question. I don't know why it's in that order but it's like that at all stations.
