    Nice review. Does “importing” the photos into Mylio create a separate copy of them in a catalog like Apple Photos? If it’s more like Bridge, which I view as a photo explorer, why the need to “import”?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi there… you have choices on how the photos are imported. You can import them as a copy, link to the folder or move them into Mylio. Just be careful as it’s easy to lose track of what you have saving where. I move my folders into the Mylio pictures system folder.
      Cheers!

    I loved this, thank you! I've been wanting to organise my photos for quite some time now but have dreaded having to learn yet another complicated application to do so. This one looks really quite intuitive, so I will definitely give it a go. And by the way, I thought you explained all this really well. Cheers!

    Would Mylio files add even more storage to a Mac's hard drive in addition to Google photos and IPhotos programs? And if so, would it be possible to delete the Google photos and iPhotos programs and just use Mylio? Hope this question helps others as well! Wonderfull well explained tutorial! Thank you!!!!!!!

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před měsícem

      Hi Cathy - thanks for watching and commenting here with your question. You would want to only store photos within Mylio (there are several ways of doing this) and delete the photos out of the other places on your Mac. Mylio will prompt you to delete the photos depending upon how you import them in. I just posted this video as a follow-up: czcams.com/video/3APiBlyccac/video.html
      As for deleting Google Photos and iPhotos programs, you can get rid of Google Photos, but I wouldn't recommend it.

    Thank you for the review. Can't you do the same things on Apple Photos as on Mylio, like create albums and edit metadata?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Mike - thanks so much for watching. Yes, you can create albums and edit metadata in Apple Photos. It is not quite as user friendly.
      I actually like using the Folders in Mylio because then I know they are physically only in one place. In Apple Photos, you can have photos in multiple albums and not realize it - creating a duplicates problem that might be hard to figure out. Also, Mylio's calendar view and interface is amazing.
      If you really like Apple Photos - I think it is a fine place to store photos but it's also a catch all for the non-family photos and screenshots we are taking. I think Mylio gives you more control with folders.
      If you want to see some old tips and tricks I've shared for Apple Photos - watch this video: czcams.com/video/s_HHDPdcVjw/video.htmlsi=5kwWgp0r8Ney698Z

    Mylio has come a LONG way. I can't believe I am saying this but .... Wow, I can see how this could be better than my current set up. The only problem is the square pictures issue.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 7 měsíci

      Hey - thanks for watching! Fortunately, Mylio has the "Fluid" grid style for photos. The square views are for the Albums and Folders! You can change the grid style in the three dots at the top right of your screen.

    Can you leave the photo's in the folders but also use albums? I also like to keep my photos in year/month folders but I would like to have albums of say a kid's birthday party. Does it work like that? Also, does it do automatic face/people recognition? So I could find all the pictures with my mom in them?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi Jenny - Yes, you can have your folders of photos all set. (These are folders on your drive.) Then, you can create albums which are like collections of photos - but only visible within Mylio. Yes, there is facial recognition and it works really well! You can add faces photo by photo or use the People tab to help confirm faces the program finds for you.
      Hope this helps!

    I'm interested in keywords; that's how I mainly find what I'm looking for at the moment, (in Exposure where I don't find keywords say to use or control). Mylio also has keywords, right? And will also generate AI keywords? Are they separate? Sorry, lots of questions!

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 20 dny

      Hi Jamie - Mylio does have Keywords that you add to photos. In addition, it also has "SmartTags" that are AI generated. They are two separate ways of searching for photos.

    How does Mylio store the photos? Does it do a good job building out a directory/folder structure that I can go through outside the program?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Boondock - Yes, it uses a Folder structure you can view outside of the program. However, any edits, etc can only be viewed inside the program.

    Appreciate this review! QQ: When you recommend importing in "smaller batches", can you give an idea of the quantity range you're referring to? Would you recommend 1,000 at a time? 500 at a time? 100?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 6 měsíci

      Hi there - I like to import what I can track. It depends upon how you have your photos organized before the import. One year at a time or one folder at a time where you can see what came in and compare it and track what you are importing. Also - if you have duplicates with different sizes and metadata, be careful! Use a duplicate finder outside of Mylio before importing. Hope this helps!

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Lisa - these are two different products. Photomyne allows you to scan and save photos, slides, negatives & more. Mylio is a photo management program that you can store, edit and organize your photos within. Here's a video on photo management options:
      czcams.com/video/jQXj7MSMJZQ/video.htmlsi=sL21mqqNYp566zsT
      Are you looking to scan photos? Then, you could use Photomyne or purchase a high speed scanner (Epson Fastfoto 680W).
      Hope this helps!

    How would you compare it with forever photo storage? Or is it about the same?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hi Richard - Forever Photo Storage and Mylio serve two different purposes and I love them both for different reasons. Mylio is a photo management program for your computer and offers many more features (editing, smart tagging, facial recognition and in depth organizing by folders and much more). It's also more efficient to edit photos on your computer than online. However, there is a big learning curve to using Mylio.
      Forever is where you store your photos and do some editing online. You can also create photo books, share with friends and family and much more. It is very simple to use and your photos will be preserved and migrated to the newest technology for your lifetime plus 100 years.
      We have people who organize and save photos in Mylio on their computer and then export the photos with the tags, people saved and other metadata and upload those batches of photos to their Forever account.
      I hope this helps! Always good to hear from you!!

    Are the ratings that you apply such as stars, flags etc recognized by Lrc?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi Richard - I actually don't know the answer to this question. This isn't a process we would use in our offices. I no longer have Lightroom Classic on my computer here to test it. I don't think flags and stars are actual metadata (similar to how starring a photo in Windows File Explorer is not visible anywhere else.) so my suspicion is that it wouldn't be recognized. I hope this helps - you can always test it by trying Mylio out on one folder and see how it goes. I'd also check into Mylio's Community community.mylio.com/ to see if there are answers there.
      Thank you for watching!

      Hi CMiller - Mylio is a well established software and you are okay to continue downloading it. Sometimes, people have this message pop up with their virus protection software. As long as you are at www.mylio.com, you are good. Keep in mind that you need to use this program routinely so you can keep track of what you are doing and how to use it. (At least weekly if not every few days.)
