That comes from his experience at Juilliard. A teacher said something similar and he told her it’s not like that.
Indeed 💯

Miles was 62 in this interview... one cold man..
This generation needs Miles Davis
No we really dont 😂
True Dat!
We have Miles Davis. Listen to his records all you need to learn is there.
blah blah this generation this, this generation that
man, we have our fair share of greats. and we'll probably only acknowledge them ten, twenty years from now.
Miles Davis appeared in the right time, now his talent wouldn't be acknowledged. His thriving in the middle of the last century gave us the opportunity to enjoy the genius's works now and evermore
Its so interesting to watch a person in their natural form...free from the normal constraints of being "hireable" . What I mean is... society tells us to be a certain way or else no one will hire you. Miles is here just being 200 percent himself completely free from those societal constraints...free to be whatever he wants to be...just a beautiful human-with all his flaws.
It's a profound thought. How would we live if we did not have the background anxiety of destitution and even death hanging over us at all times? Subtle for some of us, and overt for others. It interferes with people, makes them neurotic. It does constant invisible damage to us all. In some ways freedom is more important than happiness.
Wish I could be that way 😕
His voice here is better than in other interviews.
I am only 21. To be able to watch this legend perform would of been a treat... RIP
Miles is incredibly kind and helpful to the guy interviewing him. He makes it happen. Great person.
Miles was certainly one of a kind. RIP Miles Davis.
Legendary musician, songwriter, pioneer, and...ASMR gold
hahaha
😂😂
Someone left a statement that Miles was a deadbeat heroin addict.,and it broke my ❤️ People just don't realize the struggle of a jazz musician
The years of trying to perfect their art the years of rejection and people telling you that you're not good enough. Unless you walk a mile in their shoes do not judge. They've given so much beauty to a world that doesn't appreciate them .
What a unique definition of deadbeat.
“I make a lot of money here. I’ll always come back to Europe as long as I’m making the money” 💰 💰 💰
I'll never forget the first I saw Miles play in concert. His stage presence was incredible. One note invoked the Spirits of Charlie Parker, Dizzy, Trane, all of the legends. He could change up a player or the entire band with just a look. The man is Music Royalty.
I wonder if Miles would giggle when tickled

I really appreciate that this interview was recorded and here for everybody who loves good Jazz music to listen to. It is a treasure.
Miles Davis is known as one of the twentieth-century’s most influential musicians and a key figure in shaping modern day jazz. However, many Miles Davis fans and admirers would be surprised to know that the pioneer was a man of many diversified talents; one of those being painting. 21:12

He is unapologetically Black. Grew up in a time in America and dealt with things most people only read about. Some of the comments here are ridiculous. Some white folks only see things from their perspective. How could he not harbor some bitterness...I am surprised so many of my black elders are so forgiving.
How does it feel to be so self-righteous?
White America is "the Devil". I know this and I'm white. It's everything that goes against the soul.
My dad was a Dr and my mom was good lookin'
-Miles
@skyboundpilot Thank you -I think?
@skyboundpilot I don't think we have to bring up slavery and lynchings because as far as I can see -most black people stay detached from white society because they can see it's a farce. Notice that all sorts of white people imitate black music, culture and mannerisms but that black people don't imitate white people. I'm curious to see what will happen between the two cultures .
Much more down to earth than i thought he’d be
Undeniably a musical genius who will never be equalled. A quintessentially cool virtuoso.. RIP sir, your sounds lives on and on ♥️

Yup, MD touches upon some profound and interesting things in some of his responses, but instead of following them up, the interviewer proceeds with banal questioning about line-up changes. What a wasted opportunity.

He's like an ordinary guy who just happens to be the master of the trumpet. Never wasted his time doing mock interviews.
You can feel his heart when he is talking about racism in America. I can tell it got to him!
But he doesn't address the real problems in black communities, family break down, no Fathers. Miles was a brilliant musician but he's obviously racist himself.
FranktheTank70 The problems in the poor black communities are causes by what?! Racism. People often times confuse racism with prejudice. Prejudice is hating someone because of their background and skin color. Racism is making sure members of your race, own and control access to hospitals, banks, justice system and so on. A racist can be married to a black person, let's make that clear. But he will not make a black person CEO of his company. A black person cannot be racist because black ppl don't control anything, at least not in America.
@@StressFreeCity Oh please, who ever makes the bread, get's their choice of sandwich. I'm from a black community, spare me, there are cultural breakdowns across the board. Blacks were doing so much better before welfare Roosevelt made them dependent.
@@FranktheTank70 I don't disagree with you. I'm not quite sure how you're turning this into an argument when we're saying the same thing. What race was Roosevelt? White!!! Blacks were never doing better, which part of Beverly Hills do you live on?!! Visit any hood in America and just drive around and come back and talk. I'm telling you what I've observed and no you're not black.
Not sure why idiots like you think that because black communities have their own problems they don't get to talk about racism. Everytime someone mentions racism, you people are quick to say "but what about crime and fatherless families?". What about them? Who says that's good? And it's not like White people are doing great either, they also have rising single motherhood rates, but I don't see you whining about that

What did Miles Pass away from??
He had a few health problems...the biggest would be Sickle Cell Anemia. He developed osteoarthritis relatively early which led to a pain pill then full out heroin addiction. Along the way he developed diabetes, had a stroke and continued to battle an on and off again drug addiction. -- He had pneumonia when he died...which could have been a result of the Sickle Cell...stroke, diabetes, addictions or ware on the body from all three. -- Because he died so early...I would say that it was a combination of things. - He did a lot with himself in the short amount of time that he was here.

My father, a jazz trumpeter, respects Miles' art. I just don't care much for it. And I've been exposed to it since I was quite young.
One day we went to one of his concerts at the Woodlands Pavilion. His set was supposed to be the main attraction. Basically what we got was 40 minutes of the man sticking a purple trumpet down between his legs while we watched his posterior pointed towards us. I guess he really told us off.

The interviewer thought Miles was straying when he was actually setting up a scene to explain a point 🤣🤣
My grandfather looked like Ron Washington but had the attitude of Miles Davis. He put me on Miles and Coltrane and when it came to comedy he put me onto Pryor and Carlin. I’m 28 now and he’s the sole reason I’m an old soul to this day.
Back when I younger and more ignorant I’d play Miles’ shit around friend’s/girlfriend’s of mine when they came over to my apartment.
Always got the same response: “what kinda music is this!?” “You have a very ‘weird’ taste of music, Bro”
Basically all I’m saying is enjoy what you enjoy. At 28 now I’ve learned you can’t play certain types of music to everybody. They’re not ready for that.
But also, what I also learned is LOVE WHAT YOU LOVE. This music is the same shit now that I can play and the same people that used to make fun of me back then are now asking me “what album is this from?” “Who is this on the vocals?”
But wait…I thought this music was “weird”?
