In US news and current events today, the city of Philadephia has finally removed a statue of former mayor and police chief Frank Rizzo after years of controversy. Opponents of the statue argued that Rizzo was a major factor in the systemic inequality the Philly police enforced on people of color throughout the city.
The statue became a focal point during the Philadelphia protest that sprung out of the larger Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd, and it is part of a larger debate over removing statues of racist icons like Robert E. Lee and other Confederate statues. As the BLM protests usher in sweeping change, many hope to see these relics of a hateful past removed, while still keeping the terrible history and the lessons learned from it in our consciousness.

Honestly a guy started a racist museum of all the racist things america has kept from the present and past. It should be put there to really drive the point home. Learn from the past. Show it existed. Dont idolize it.
Thank god Karen wasn't there, she would have started to search for manager and make a scene out of it.

@Westin Taylor Thank God Karen wasn't there, a welfare Rump supporter storming in the governor's building in Michigan with AK-14 pointing on the government's head is very hypocritical, and double standard.
Who's Karen?
Hahaha good one you are so right.
That statue was supposed to be taken off in 2017. Good Riddance.
@inrealtime23 good question
When they say "be on the right side of history or history won't be kind" this is what they mean

It makes people listen, but makes them want to shut you up.

It shouldnt have.

Exactly!
But the question is why was made in first place?.
Who did it, and what was the reason. A symbol of white supremacy?
Of course they shouldn't have. They started making most of these racist statues around the turn of century and in the 1920's when the KKK was big.
@@marcopena7638 well the video implies he turned Philly around when it was even worse than it already is.

To let black ppl know what the police in that city idolize

Just me , but i never understood why we make statue of people .
I think public monuments reflect a society’s values. In this case, we can see that societal values can change. I think humans will still erect monuments for the foreseeable future but societal values will constantly evolve. Just my two cents ✌️
The white supremacist always glorify themselves and always reward their killers.

this is really good to see, but also sort of funny how the fact that he was racist is so significant. i live in south carolina and our entire history revolves around racism. you see racist statues and monuments everywhere here. we have schools, lakes, towns, etc. named after people who were obviously racist. even the founder of clemson university was racist. i guess it’s more “normal” here but it shouldn’t mean it’s more acceptable.
pax honestly m8, as part as the reform they need to do something regarding the use of items that represent racism/segregation.
youre an embarrassment to SC. if these yankees had their way youd be killed for being in the south.
@Blue Bandit i don’t understand how i’m an embarrassment. i was just acknowledging that most of the significant figures in sc’s history were racist and that it’s no different than a racist politician from pennsylvania. i also understand that to get rid of anything connected to racism would be to get rid of almost our entire history. i was simply saying that i think it’s shocking to see how little people tolerate historical figures who were racist in other places when it’s such a regular thing here that’s never even talked about. my apologies for being self aware and making a mature societal observation. if that’s what makes somebody an embarrassment in my state then i suppose i’d be an embarrassment.
@@bluebandit5586 what are you talking about
@Hillary's emails to Lorne i think it’s extremely unlikely and i highly doubt that the racism behind some of the monuments/memorials/statues will ever be addressed

its actually how non-white groups back in the day, irish, italian, the new immigrants in early america, got made white and achieved better social standards, one of the steps was becoming racist toward not ethnicities but race. It solidified, racism, the idea of whiteness we have now.

different times, different mindsets
Exactly, but back then news media’s where not all run by agenda demons. Today news media cares less about African Americans, all the news wants to do is divide everyone.
Many people of different color will be fooled into reliving hate by news media propaganda. Ask yourself, do these reporters not live large, they don’t live near you, they despise you. They are there to divide you through hate manipulation.
What a fair and balanced summation of the problematic issue of the statue and what it represented . There's a person on earth that can only digest metal. Give the statue to him to eat, he'll have a feast.
I love how heartless people can be so terrible but since they climbed through the basic hierarchy of politics and maybe put some money into your community that he didn’t care about, he is now an icon and a legend. It’s scary how gullible humanity is.

That's one of the stupiest decisions ever. Firstly, you keep the statue there so you can be like 'Don't be like this guy' . Second , you don't erase those things from history , you let them exactly where they are so people can learn from their country's problematic past, not acting like it doesn't exist .
what about vandalised statue of Gandhi by this looters??
Are you going to cover the tear gassing of unarmed, fleeing, and trapped protesters on the Vine Street Expressway?
Tom Hublot No one has been able to provide any evidence that a single “violent” action was committed by protesters on the highway-there are several articles about it in the Inquirer and WHYY. No helicopter footage or protester footage shows protester-instigated violence. They were peaceful protesters with their hands up, as the vast majority of “looters” and “rioters” were inner-city teenagers taking advantage of the police distribution to score new shoes on the 30th.
I didn't know this!! Sadly being from West Coast and a CA man I only know about Rocky from the franchise.

It was a step taken in the right direction. Idolizing a person who treat other peoples in degrading way for their personal reasons or for being themselves, must be condemned.
Why do they put up these statues in the first place?
As a foreiner sitting outside of the US, I find it quite extraordinary that these symbols have been allowed in plain sight for all these years. I mean, I thought I knew a lot about racism and the history of Afro-Americans but I did not know that such symbols were still in the public eye. They are part of a history and as such should not be destroyed. But have the decency to move them to a more obscure place for education of generations to come.
