In US news and current events today, the city of Philadephia has finally removed a statue of former mayor and police chief Frank Rizzo after years of controversy. Opponents of the statue argued that Rizzo was a major factor in the systemic inequality the Philly police enforced on people of color throughout the city.
The statue became a focal point during the Philadelphia protest that sprung out of the larger Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd, and it is part of a larger debate over removing statues of racist icons like Robert E. Lee and other Confederate statues. As the BLM protests usher in sweeping change, many hope to see these relics of a hateful past removed, while still keeping the terrible history and the lessons learned from it in our consciousness.

No helicopter footage or protester footage shows protester-instigated violence.
