I've been using the Freestyle Libre 14 day flash glucose monitor for two months now. Here are the pros and cons that I've found. Feel free to comment with any questions!
I thank you for the video. I'm type 2 and this thing is a game changer! I check more often than I did before and I now have control. No more sore fingers and no more times when it does not take a reading. I thought I was OK to drink a Starbucks Guave Grande Black Ice Tea without sugar. It's not ok, I discovered that it pushed my blood sugar to over 200 points. I set my targets and within 3 days was 75% in target. I can now tweak and tune my diet. It's a game changer. Love it! Thanks again for doing the video.
Good comment and explaining. I use it now for 2 month and i am very very very happy! A tip for those who don't know yet, with a hypo drink 5 gulps of coca cola (works in 5 minutes and lay down!) and then a sandwich with ham or cheese or both. Too high is not as harmful as too low! Allready 25 years diabitic. I am Dutch and life in Spain. Nice to meet you all.
I just received my Freestyle Libre today, and sure, I'm nervous but this video is so, so helpful. My comment is targeted to retired, over-65 folks who are on Medicare. If you currently test your blood at least 4 times per day and take insulin at least 3 times per day, Medicare covers all supplies and sensor packs at 80%. And luckily, my "gap insurance" covers most of the other 20%. All you need to do is to have your regular MD send a prescription via FAX to a vendor sells the Freestyle supplies. I bought mine through a company called US MED, but the Freestyle web site lists about a dozen other suppliers. So, if you qualify, there is no reason not to do it! Thanks for this video. I diagnosed with type1 one year back and my friend suggested me to use Blucon NigtRider. It has been very easy since I started using Blucon. Now I am able to updates every time when my glucose values go high with voice alarm notifications.
Hi, I use blucon from the last 4 months and check the values on my watch. Also, I can check on the app how exercise, food impacts on my glucose which helps me a lot to share all these information with doctor.
Thank you for pros and cons. I have typically been checking early morning and taking blood tests every 6 months. Knowing a "complete" history of my glucose will be very helpful.
Hey I'm using Blucon on top of my sensor which gives readings and alarms to my phone and watch without scanning the sensor. Blucon has gives complete history of a month and also I can keep all my records on one platform like BG values, Medicine, insulin, exercise, food I intake and many more which helped to analyse my levels and take decisions accordingly
I sleep on mine at times and have never noticed. I’ve been diabetic for 54yrs on insulin I am thrilled with the libre and the pump .I do change arms each time. God bless you. 🥰
I’m so glad I found your video. I just got my first sensor today, and I looked for a long time for clear explanations for the Libre system (Freestyle marketed as a CGM). With the ridiculous expense of insulin pump supplies and insulin (which I already can’t afford lol), I definitely cannot even think about $600+ for 5 Medtronic sensors that only last 3 days each, not to mention a new transmitter. I’m going to try this out and get a better hold of this! I’m 28 and was diagnosed at 5, but I haven’t had good control at all. Type 1s know those stubborn moments well. Hey well explained. I'm a part of a diabetic group in India and we all are using FSL Pro sensor for past many years. Your video will help my new group mates who recently started their new sensor. We used to visit our Doctor to get the activation process done but for last few months we're using Blucon Nightrider which activates the Libre Pro sensor and Libre sensor 1 without reader. No NFC based phone required. We can get alarms on HI/LO BG levels and can share the reading with our loved ones.

thanks for this wonderful video. I like libre as it has eliminated frequent finger pricking from my life. which is very painful. Gradually I found libre is incomplete without a cgm device as every time scanning the sensor is not easy. I found Blucon Nightrider a third party cgm device which gives me sensor's reading every 5 minutes on phone and watch without scanning the sensor. Another best feature is I can get readings on watch without carrying my phone. Being a school teacher it's extremely beneficial feature
Hey Cathy you are correct but still you have to scan the sensor to get the readings on phone, where as I don't scan my Libre 2 sensor to get the readings on my phone and watch even alarms I get on phone and watch without scanning. This could be possible with Ambrosia's Nightrider on top of my sensor. There are N number of feature which are missing in Libre 2

I’ve been wearing the sensors for years.started out with 10 day then 14 day sensors came out. At first a doctors assistant stated alternative site was the thigh with no video or details on where.I finally got tired and sore of the arms so, decided after many years to try the upper thigh.I looked at some videos and read some medical journals.I looked for a little fatty area on upper thigh on the outer side and felt zero pain for once. 😃 So glad to give my arms a break.so far just as accurate as the arm. As far as the abdominal area I’m not comfortable even when I tried with another brand of sensors intended to use as applications site. Just to be clear it’s a hollow needle( it would hurt a lot if it was solid) and the spring of the application helps to insert usually not too painful.except at first insertion in some areas of the arm. It’s a little pinch.I’m more sensitive and don’t do it if blood sugar is low. The filament is the only thing that is left just under the skin,to read the interstitial fluid.no pain after that.I only had one after many years of sensors, bruised when I tried a little to the side of arm -it was a bleeder also.( this is personal issue and only on one arm)
Very nice, I am using Libre14 days sensors, and it is working well with Blucon. Also my blucon device reads the values from the sensor, gives me update how my blood glucose values impacts with food, insulin and excercise and it is very easy for me to share all this things with my doctor.
Excellent video. You covered most of the bases. flash glucose monitoring system is a no brainerd. My diabetes clinic gave me one to trial for 14 days. It was a real game changer. I would normally write my readings into my diabetes books but numbers on paper don't mean nothing to me. The way my brain works doesn't comprehend numbers too well. Wirh the graph feature on the Lifestyle Libre reader I can track my highs and lows in real time and retrospectly. Another cool feature is it will alert you when you need to do a 2 hour reading after a meal. Look in the NOTES section under FOOD. Normally I would forget to do the 2 hour reading. Another bonus is that I usually have a nap after lunch. If my alert alarm goes off and I don't hear it, my partner does the scanning for me. For the first time since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes I feel totally in control. But yeah excellent video beautiful lady. Thank you👍
Hi Kristie, I am also using Blucon and Libre1. My new Blucon reactivates the sensor more than 14 days. Both products really help me alot with my diabetes.
I have had a trial on a Freestyle Libre before but i don't have a compatible phone for the app and neither do i have a computer to be able to upload results to my Diabetes nurse ! Does anyone else have the same problem and if so how have you got round it ? These videos are brilliant at showing you how to apply them and how they work but no one tells you what to do if you're in the same boat as me.
Another great video. Am just about to “hook up” with Libre Link as requested by my Doctor so I can download all my info. Makes a lot of sense to do this. Need to find out about using my IPhone as a reader, too. Sounds like a lot of benefits there. Thanks so much for doing these videos. Am learning so much about “spikes” and “lows” even though have not had any lows according to my reader that I know of. Again, thanks so much and keep them (videos) coming. Best....

Hi John, yes libre is not a CGM it FGM. I'm using bluocn nightrider a CGM with my libre and gets alarms whenever my glucose goes HI/LO. I can share my readings with my caregivers. It connects direct to my apple watch without phone. I can add my food, exercise, insulin and medicine also. What I feel is this is a one platform for all the information we need and miss in libre sensor. Also, it's is cheep not as expensive as dexcom and MM
FYI I have heard 24hr after using new. Also for USA the NightRider BluCon almost makes the Libre an CGM, every 5 min. Also using an iphone & android phones is way better than the meter as you 99% have your phone with you an AWESOME! NOTE: In the Apple iphone app that line or an arrow does not indicate up or down but the color of the reading is red or yellow or green based on the range you set it to.
Thanks! The update that was made to libre link a couple months ago makes it work with Android for everything except starting a new sensor. I've been using my phone for almost everything and loving it! I've been looking into Droplet and Maiomaio, both of which make the libre a cgm. Maiomaio doesn't work with US 14 day sensors yet, but the Droplet works with almost any libre sensor and sounds amazing!

Recently I started using new NightRider BluCon from Ambrosia which works with US 14 day Libre sensor, readings are as good as LibreLink and Libre Reader and I can also calibrate if I like, their app LinkBluCon has alarms and I can share with my caregiver my readings. I trust BluCon more than any other bluetooth transmitter as I found it's manufactured in the USA and made by a USA based company, I also saw many positive feedback about it. I would prefer to stay away from miaomiao, just saw someone got burn marks because rechargeable battery in miaomiao overheated.

Libre 14 days is much better than other sensors which I felt but without any CGM no libre can completely help to improve diabetes levels. I found Nightrider a suitable cgm device for my 14 days sensor which allows me to share readings with multiple caregivers. Another very useful feature is advance reports which helps my endo to advise me better
I just received mine last night. It didn’t come with the monitor but found out from my coworker this morning it’s either the monitor or the phone. So I opted for the phone. I’ve just applied and am waiting for about 30 more mins for my first scan. Super excited not to finger prick as much.
Simply Nieccee if you start it with the scanner, after that you can use it on both scanner and phone. If you start it with your phone you can only scan with your phone
I use libre 14 days with blucon transmitter..it helps me get my readings updates every 5 minutes on my phone without any scanning. it alerts me through alarms and voice alerts when my sugars go very low or high.
I will look into this device. The out of pocket expense does not seem high. My doctor will not prescribe because I am barely pre-diabetic. I have been finger pricking for the first time in the last week. Your video is very helpful. Take care of yourself and God Bless.
my endo suggested to use nightrider blucon with libre and it makes my diabetes management even more easier. i get alarms of highs and lows without any need to scan and carry the reader. highly recommend!!
Just wanted to mention that the LIbre is waterproof...I just started using mine this week and have issues with getting a reading only after 3-4 swipes. Called for support and Abbott is sending me a new sensor. Also I notice you swiped your reader very close to the sensor and it worked. My instructions say hold it 1 - 11/2 in from the sensor.
I’m getting a glucometer today. Just to double check my readings. They have Been reading where they were to low to read. And as she said I didn’t feel that bad. Also customer service at times is pretty bad. Communication. And the staying sticking situation on your arm is a BIG issue!
For anyone interested, i also had an issue with my new libre showing extreme lows (basically said i was dead for a few hours) best explanation i could find online was this: What you describe can be quite common on the first day. When you attach the sensor, two things start happening. First, you've just poked a big needle into your skin causing a microscopic bit of damage to the area. Second, the sensor filament is in your body and is regarded as a foreign body. So, repair mechanisms to repair the puncture spring into action, and so does foreign body response mechanisms to try to fight off the "invader". Both of those mechanisms use cells which chew up glucose to fuel their work, so the glucose in the area will be depleted because they've ate it, so there is less for the sensor to measure, so it appears as a low. Also, the filament can take a bit of time to settle in, so can be skew whiff. What a lot of us do to get round these issues is attach the sensor and then leave it for about 12 to 24 hrs before activating it (the 14 days only starts counting down once you start it, so you don't lose any time).
Interesting! I've noticed that it takes a few hours to be reliable accurate after putting on a new sensor, but it never occurred to me to apply it and leave it for awhile before activating it. I'll have to give it a try next time. Thanks for sharing! One other thing to mention - the libre can be off if you're dehydrated, so make sure you're drinking enough. 🙂
Great video the only concern I have about putting my numbers into a data base is the confidential information is that information just between you and your doctor or does the company share your information in studies
That's a good point. I don't know, but I'm sure the company has access to your numbers. You can set up your libre account and choose what's in it, though. The only thing in mine is the record of my blood sugars. I don't input any of my medication or health info.
I use this freestyle libre 14 days sensor with blucon nightrider which converts it into an active CGM and through which i am able to see every 5 minute readings on my phone. No scanning is needed.
I have been using freestyle sensors for a long time now..and recently a friend suggested me to use Blucon nightrider for alarms and other features. Now i get every 5 minute updates for my sugars with its mobile app linkblucon
Submerging more than 30 minutes in water or using in a hot tub can loosen adhesive. Sweaty exercise also,too. Mastisol liquid adhesive in 2/3 vials work great. Apply around the outside circle of sensor. Not the middle. Hint: use blue applicator to make circle indentation.

I tried this system, my endrinconologist was soo in favor of it, after 36 hours the readings were 20 points above my finger sticks, it never got better than that, after 12 days the readings got more removed from finger sticks, my second sensor worked ok , about 20 points above finger stick for days 2 thru 13, same for 3rd sensor. I think we all different and they really do not have this figured out, I am at 20% co pay so my first kit turned out to be 125 dollars, 3 sensors, I stopped after that, still finger sticking on days 1 and 14 and 2x a day all other days So I went back to my trusty old meter, but I bought a better sticker and finer sharper lancets which helped a lot, I do think in a few years this cgm will be perfected, for now I give blood up tp10x per day
Good video..I’m a first time user and ready to switch out the first disk..a few questions, how do u remove the disk? And is that a test strip slot on the bottom of the meter? If so, do you need an additional scrip for these test strips? And why you use it if we’re now scanning? thanks for the help.
Thanks so much! There's no special way to remove the sensor, just pull it off. For me, removing it hurts more than applying it because it's on there so well! There will be adhesive left behind on your skin, but that'll come off with an alcohol wipe. There is a test strip slot at the bottom of the scanner and you would need a script to get those. I've never bothered - when I need to test I use the meter that I had before the Libre. That's up to you, though. 🙂 Good luck!
How do you take it off? If you have skin issues with tape or adhesive will using Libre become an issue? Does it leave a mark on the skin where you removed it? And do you use the same insert area all the time? LMK. Thanks.
Beware lot of sensors are faulty and give a very low result for eg it will show you a normal fasting level of 5 when it is actually 8. You need to test it with the finger prick meters to be sure. I had reduced my medications due to this and was shocked when my HBA1c results came much higher. I am using this for the last couple of years (spent thousands of dollars on this) and have decided to discontinue using it.
One problem I found is that the sensor only lasts 14 days and in order to get a new sensor you need a prescription you can’t purchase a sensor retail like test strips another con is most insurance companies will only pay for the sensor every 28 days the sensor only lasts 14 days and your left with the option of paying for a sensor out of pocket
I purchased this 14 day system today. Have been a type II for the past 15 years and have been doing finger sticks for that long. We all know finger sticks are no fun. Looking forward to using it until I found out it will cost me $40 per one 14 day unit = $80 per month. Certainly cannot afford this. This cost is after my insurance pays their share. Medicare is my primary insurer but my understanding is they won''t cover it unless I ck my sugars 4 times per day. Per my doctor, I ck it twice daily. Anyone know of another avenue to use to get the cost down? Thank you

You can't reattach it once it's off. In the beginning I accidentally popped the sensor off a few times and it was done. To keep it on you can use Skin Tac to give it extra 'stick's if that helps?
Been using Libre 1 since Marchh. Have you had any sensor that just seems to run low or run high for the entire 14 days? I've seen both and hope it's not just happening to me randomly.
Try pricking your finger the old way about 10 seconds after using the sensor reader. Surprise! The numbers are up to 50 pts different. Always seems to be much higher with the Freestyle. Not accurate like you said.
Excellent review...one question, is sweating an issue swimming and being in a jacuzzi for 15 to 30 mins. I try to work out at least 3 times a week and then award myself by going swimming, hot tub, jacuzzi, etc. Thanks!!
Sorry, just saw your comment! I wore mine all through the summer and didn't have any issues with swimming. There were a couple times that the sensor started to lift, due to sweat, suntan lotion, etc, and I just put a bandaid over it to hold it on and it was fine. As far as the hot tub/jacuzzi, I'm guessing there's a time limit to how long it can be submerged. Check out their site for that one.

@@willietyler6474 I do the same. I switch back and forth between my arms. I've never tried other spots, but I'm strongly considering it. It's only FDA approved for use on the arms, but I've heard that people have had success putting it on their stomach or lower back.

Lucky! I just started on the Libre 14 day system. I prefer dexcom g6. When my deductible is met, dexcom is only about $250 for a 3 month supply. Before my deductible is met, it's $1000. I can run Freestyle libre through my prescription insurance and AFTER insurance, it was $280 for a 3 month supply. This shit sucks
I also don't often feel lows, so I've compensated the other way. And now my A1C is 8.7. UGH There was one time, I woke up and my BG was 30! I thought it had to be a mistake because I felt fine! Nope 30... I immediately started chugging apple juice.
I am also a diabetic and wear sensor but from medtronic and mmoving to free style libre ...i use adhesive wipes and tape on my current sensors i think i will continue to use wipes and tape for the free style libre, but I have also seen many videos of poeple wearing them on their legs stomache and buttox?! and a few on chest lol you can use other sites, you have to make sure it is abit fatty
The sensor will never be as accurate as the finger prick but it gives you a nearly accurate reading. My mum is using the sensor and we've checked both and its always a couple of points diff. I'm Australian and I think our reader has a different numbering system, anything from 4-9 is good. Yeah it's a shame it only last 14 days and you can't reset the sensor you have to buy more so it can get very expensive. Its $100AUD for one delivered. And its plastic as well so in the future you'll see a mountain of used sensors in landfill.
On my 4th sensor and they are totally unreliable. Have had point differences average 40 to 100 points. Sensor might say 90 and holding steady but Finger stick says 160 + at the same time.
I'm so sorry! I just saw your comment. The libre is great for any diabetic, regardless of type. If you're doing finger pricks multiple times a day to check your blood sugar, it'll be very helpful.

Started with the FreeStyle Libre 2 about a month ago. You can set quite a few alarms on this upgraded system. Highly recommend it!
Hey Cathy you are correct but still you have to scan the sensor to get the readings on phone, where as I don't scan my Libre 2 sensor to get the readings on my phone and watch even alarms I get on phone and watch without scanning. This could be possible with Ambrosia's Nightrider on top of my sensor. There are N number of feature which are missing in Libre 2

I’ve been wearing the sensors for years.started out with 10 day then 14 day sensors came out. At first a doctors assistant stated alternative site was the thigh with no video or details on where.I finally got tired and sore of the arms so, decided after many years to try the upper thigh.I looked at some videos and read some medical journals.I looked for a little fatty area on upper thigh on the outer side and felt zero pain for once. 😃
So glad to give my arms a break.so far just as accurate as the arm. As far as the abdominal area I’m not comfortable even when I tried with another brand of sensors intended to use as applications site.
Just to be clear it’s a hollow needle( it would hurt a lot if it was solid) and the spring of the application helps to insert usually not too painful.except at first insertion in some areas of the arm. It’s a little pinch.I’m more sensitive and don’t do it if blood sugar is low.
The filament is the only thing that is left just under the skin,to read the interstitial fluid.no pain after that.I only had one after many years of sensors, bruised when I tried a little to the side of arm -it was a bleeder also.( this is personal issue and only on one arm)

Very nice, I am using Libre14 days sensors, and it is working well with Blucon. Also my blucon device reads the values from the sensor, gives me update how my blood glucose values impacts with food, insulin and excercise and it is very easy for me to share all this things with my doctor.
Hi Eles, I also use Blucon and the device extend the life of my sensor which is really helpful for me.

Excellent video. You covered most of the bases. flash glucose monitoring system is a no brainerd. My diabetes clinic gave me one to trial for 14 days. It was a real game changer. I would normally write my readings into my diabetes books but numbers on paper don't mean nothing to me. The way my brain works doesn't comprehend numbers too well. Wirh the graph feature on the Lifestyle Libre reader I can track my highs and lows in real time and retrospectly. Another cool feature is it will alert you when you need to do a 2 hour reading after a meal. Look in the NOTES section under FOOD. Normally I would forget to do the 2 hour reading. Another bonus is that I usually have a nap after lunch. If my alert alarm goes off and I don't hear it, my partner does the scanning for me. For the first time since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes I feel totally in control.

Hi Kristie, I am also using Blucon and Libre1. My new Blucon reactivates the sensor more than 14 days. Both products really help me alot with my diabetes.
I have had a trial on a Freestyle Libre before but i don't have a compatible phone for the app and neither do i have a computer to be able to upload results to my Diabetes nurse ! Does anyone else have the same problem and if so how have you got round it ? These videos are brilliant at showing you how to apply them and how they work but no one tells you what to do if you're in the same boat as me.
Another great video. Am just about to “hook up” with Libre Link as requested by my Doctor so I can download all my info. Makes a lot of sense to do this. Need to find out about using my IPhone as a reader, too. Sounds like a lot of benefits there. Thanks so much for doing these videos. Hi John, yes libre is not a CGM it FGM. I'm using bluocn nightrider a CGM with my libre and gets alarms whenever my glucose goes HI/LO. I can share my readings with my caregivers. It connects direct to my apple watch without phone. I can add my food, exercise, insulin and medicine also. What I feel is this is a one platform for all the information we need and miss in libre sensor. Also, it's is cheep not as expensive as dexcom and MM
FYI I have heard 24hr after using new. Also for USA the NightRider BluCon almost makes the Libre an CGM, every 5 min. Also using an iphone & android phones is way better than the meter as you 99% have your phone with you an AWESOME! NOTE: In the Apple iphone app that line or an arrow does not indicate up or down but the color of the reading is red or yellow or green based on the range you set it to.
Thanks! The update that was made to libre link a couple months ago makes it work with Android for everything except starting a new sensor. I've been using my phone for almost everything and loving it! I've been looking into Droplet and Maiomaio, both of which make the libre a cgm. Maiomaio doesn't work with US 14 day sensors yet, but the Droplet works with almost any libre sensor and sounds amazing!

Recently I started using new NightRider BluCon from Ambrosia which works with US 14 day Libre sensor, readings are as good as LibreLink and Libre Reader and I can also calibrate if I like, their app LinkBluCon has alarms and I can share with my caregiver my readings. I trust BluCon more than any other bluetooth transmitter as I found it's manufactured in the USA and made by a USA based company, I also saw many positive feedback about it. I would prefer to stay away from miaomiao, just saw someone got burn marks because rechargeable battery in miaomiao overheated.

Libre 14 days is much better than other sensors which I felt but without any CGM no libre can completely help to improve diabetes levels. I found Nightrider a suitable cgm device for my 14 days sensor which allows me to share readings with multiple caregivers. Another very useful feature is advance reports which helps my endo to advise me better
I just received mine last night. It didn’t come with the monitor but found out from my coworker this morning it’s either the monitor or the phone. So I opted for the phone. I’ve just applied and am waiting for about 30 more mins for my first scan. Super excited not to finger prick as much.
Simply Nieccee if you start it with the scanner, after that you can use it on both scanner and phone. If you start it with your phone you can only scan with your phone
I use libre 14 days with blucon transmitter..it helps me get my readings updates every 5 minutes on my phone without any scanning. it alerts me through alarms and voice alerts when my sugars go very low or high.
I will look into this device. The out of pocket expense does not seem high. My doctor will not prescribe because I am barely pre-diabetic. I have been finger pricking for the first time in the last week. Your video is very helpful. Take care of yourself and God Bless.
my endo suggested to use nightrider blucon with libre and it makes my diabetes management even more easier. i get alarms of highs and lows without any need to scan and carry the reader. highly recommend!!

Just wanted to mention that the LIbre is waterproof...I just started using mine this week and have issues with getting a reading only after 3-4 swipes. Called for support and Abbott is sending me a new sensor. Also I notice you swiped your reader very close to the sensor and it worked. My instructions say hold it 1 - 11/2 in from the sensor.

I’m getting a glucometer today. Just to double check my readings. They have Been reading where they were to low to read. And as she said I didn’t feel that bad.
Also customer service at times is pretty bad. Communication. And the staying sticking situation on your arm is a BIG issue!
For anyone interested, i also had an issue with my new libre showing extreme lows (basically said i was dead for a few hours) best explanation i could find online was this:
What you describe can be quite common on the first day.
When you attach the sensor, two things start happening.
First, you've just poked a big needle into your skin causing a microscopic bit of damage to the area.
Second, the sensor filament is in your body and is regarded as a foreign body.
So, repair mechanisms to repair the puncture spring into action, and so does foreign body response mechanisms to try to fight off the "invader".
Both of those mechanisms use cells which chew up glucose to fuel their work, so the glucose in the area will be depleted because they've ate it, so there is less for the sensor to measure, so it appears as a low.
Also, the filament can take a bit of time to settle in, so can be skew whiff.
What a lot of us do to get round these issues is attach the sensor and then leave it for about 12 to 24 hrs before activating it (the 14 days only starts counting down once you start it, so you don't lose any time).
Interesting! I've noticed that it takes a few hours to be reliable accurate after putting on a new sensor, but it never occurred to me to apply it and leave it for awhile before activating it. I'll have to give it a try next time. Thanks for sharing!
One other thing to mention - the libre can be off if you're dehydrated, so make sure you're drinking enough. 🙂
Great video the only concern I have about putting my numbers into a data base is the confidential information is that information just between you and your doctor or does the company share your information in studies
That's a good point. I don't know, but I'm sure the company has access to your numbers. You can set up your libre account and choose what's in it, though. The only thing in mine is the record of my blood sugars. I don't input any of my medication or health info.
I use this freestyle libre 14 days sensor with blucon nightrider which converts it into an active CGM and through which i am able to see every 5 minute readings on my phone. No scanning is needed.

No need to cover it to shower or swim. It's waterproof. 🙂
Submerging more than 30 minutes in water or using in a hot tub can loosen adhesive. Sweaty exercise also,too. Mastisol liquid adhesive in 2/3 vials work great. Apply around the outside circle of sensor. Not the middle. Hint: use blue applicator to make circle indentation.
I find the Libre readings to be typically 40 point lower than my finger sticks after 3 days of use.
I've been having similar issues, often my discrepancy is higher. I haven't found a solution, but I might try other sites and see if it's any better.

How come I don't get Alarms and readings(unless I scan) on my phone ? I bought a Libre sensor last month but it doesn't say 2 on the box!
I have the Libre 2 and it’s suppose to alarm if I go over 180 and below 70.
There are other stops you can put it thigh chest hips
I tried this system, my endrinconologist was soo in favor of it, after 36 hours the readings were 20 points above my finger sticks, it never got better than that, after 12 days the readings got more removed from finger sticks, my second sensor worked ok , about 20 points above finger stick for days 2 thru 13, same for 3rd sensor.
I think we all different and they really do not have this figured out, I am at 20% co pay so my first kit turned out to be 125 dollars, 3 sensors, I stopped after that, still finger sticking on days 1 and 14 and 2x a day all other days
So I went back to my trusty old meter, but I bought a better sticker and finer sharper lancets which helped a lot,
I do think in a few years this cgm will be perfected, for now I give blood up tp10x per day

How do you dispose of the plastic that is leftover? Is it recyclable?
Good video..I’m a first time user and ready to switch out the first disk..a few questions, how do u remove the disk? And is that a test strip slot on the bottom of the meter? If so, do you need an additional scrip for these test strips? And why you use it if we’re now scanning? thanks for the help.
Thanks so much! There's no special way to remove the sensor, just pull it off. For me, removing it hurts more than applying it because it's on there so well! There will be adhesive left behind on your skin, but that'll come off with an alcohol wipe.
There is a test strip slot at the bottom of the scanner and you would need a script to get those. I've never bothered - when I need to test I use the meter that I had before the Libre. That's up to you, though. 🙂 Good luck!
How do you take it off? If you have skin issues with tape or adhesive will using Libre become an issue? Does it leave a mark on the skin where you removed it? And do you use the same insert area all the time? LMK. Thanks.
Can you load the data out of the phone app?
Beware lot of sensors are faulty and give a very low result for eg it will show you a normal fasting level of 5 when it is actually 8. You need to test it with the finger prick meters to be sure. I had reduced my medications due to this and was shocked when my HBA1c results came much higher. I am using this for the last couple of years (spent thousands of dollars on this) and have decided to discontinue using it.
One problem I found is that the sensor only lasts 14 days and in order to get a new sensor you need a prescription you can’t purchase a sensor retail like test strips another con is most insurance companies will only pay for the sensor every 28 days the sensor only lasts 14 days and your left with the option of paying for a sensor out of pocket

I purchased this 14 day system today. Have been a type II for the past 15 years and have been doing finger sticks for that long. We all know finger sticks are no fun. Looking forward to using it until I found out it will cost me $40 per one 14 day unit = $80 per month. Certainly cannot afford this. This cost is after my insurance pays their share. Medicare is my primary insurer but my understanding is they won''t cover it unless I ck my sugars 4 times per day. Per my doctor, I ck it twice daily. Anyone know of another avenue to use to get the cost down? Thank you
Should you get test strips with the Libre Freestyle starter kit? The test strips from the meter that I have will not fit into the reader/scanner.

You can't reattach it once it's off. In the beginning I accidentally popped the sensor off a few times and it was done. To keep it on you can use Skin Tac to give it extra 'stick's if that helps?

Been using Libre 1 since Marchh. Have you had any sensor that just seems to run low or run high for the entire 14 days? I've seen both and hope it's not just happening to me randomly.
Yes. Some run high others low.
I've been using it for 4 days now and its not very accurate. Maybe a bad sensor.
Try pricking your finger the old way about 10 seconds after using the sensor reader. Surprise! The numbers are up to 50 pts different. Always seems to be much higher with the Freestyle. Not accurate like you said.
Excellent review...one question, is sweating an issue swimming and being in a jacuzzi for 15 to 30 mins. I try to work out at least 3 times a week and then award myself by going swimming, hot tub, jacuzzi, etc. Thanks!!
Sorry, just saw your comment! I wore mine all through the summer and didn't have any issues with swimming. There were a couple times that the sensor started to lift, due to sweat, suntan lotion, etc, and I just put a bandaid over it to hold it on and it was fine. As far as the hot tub/jacuzzi, I'm guessing there's a time limit to how long it can be submerged. Check out their site for that one.

@@willietyler6474 I do the same. I switch back and forth between my arms. I've never tried other spots, but I'm strongly considering it. It's only FDA approved for use on the arms, but I've heard that people have had success putting it on their stomach or lower back.

Lucky! I just started on the Libre 14 day system. I prefer dexcom g6. When my deductible is met, dexcom is only about $250 for a 3 month supply. Before my deductible is met, it's $1000. I can run Freestyle libre through my prescription insurance and AFTER insurance, it was $280 for a 3 month supply. This shit sucks
I also don't often feel lows, so I've compensated the other way. And now my A1C is 8.7. UGH There was one time, I woke up and my BG was 30! I thought it had to be a mistake because I felt fine! Nope 30... I immediately started chugging apple juice.
I am also a diabetic and wear sensor but from medtronic and mmoving to free style libre ...i use adhesive wipes and tape on my current sensors i think i will continue to use wipes and tape for the free style libre, but I have also seen many videos of poeple wearing them on their legs stomache and buttox?! and a few on chest lol you can use other sites, you have to make sure it is abit fatty
The sensor will never be as accurate as the finger prick but it gives you a nearly accurate reading. My mum is using the sensor and we've checked both and its always a couple of points diff. I'm Australian and I think our reader has a different numbering system, anything from 4-9 is good. Yeah it's a shame it only last 14 days and you can't reset the sensor you have to buy more so it can get very expensive. Its $100AUD for one delivered. And its plastic as well so in the future you'll see a mountain of used sensors in landfill.
On my 4th sensor and they are totally unreliable. Have had point differences average 40 to 100 points. Sensor might say 90 and holding steady but Finger stick says 160 + at the same time.
What about for a 84 year old type 2? Have had it for abouut 14 years
I'm so sorry! I just saw your comment. The libre is great for any diabetic, regardless of type. If you're doing finger pricks multiple times a day to check your blood sugar, it'll be very helpful.
