- Osteen speaks out on "GMA" after facing criticism on social media when his megachurch, Lakewood, did not immediately take in Harvey victims, a decision he later reversed.
His church website have a fundraiser going. I asked him on Twitter what % of the donations he will be taking. He has now blocked me on Twitter.

Amen. I’m all for giving to the entities that ACTUALLY give aid and charities to those in need. ESPECIALLY the smaller churches who actually give a damn about their communities and the ones in need, donating their time, resources, and space within reason.

Heres a true story. In 2017 me, my wife and our 2 friends got stranded in Hurricane Harvey in Houston. We had to walk 2 miles to our apartment in the wind and the rain. I would find an awning for them and walk 100 or so feet in front to make sure it was ok in chest deep water then call them to where I was. I had even considered breaking into an Autozone that was on higher ground just to get my wife and friends out of the elements. By the time we made it we were all shivering amd cold and they were scared to death (for good reason). I will never forgive Joel Olsteen or his church for turning people away who went through this. We literally just wanted a A ROOF. Thats it. Just to get out of the wind and the rain and sit down and not feel impending doom or your car thats just flooded up the road. Thats the kind of people he turned away. Once Houston jumped on his ass he changed his tune. But I promise you they'll never forgive him. He lives in Houston but he will never be a Houstonian.

I live two blocks from Lakewood. He is lying. They were not remotely close to flooding. He is right that the main shelter is just a few miles away. I think what happened was he had hoped his church wouldn't be needed; he, like everyone in Houston, didn't anticipate just how much water there would be, especially after the dams were opened.
He is lying. Yes, they still provided help with distribution, but Lakewood could've been opened days before and simple wasn't, and there was nothing preventing it from happening.

We tried to get some help from Joel Osteen's church one time and we got turned down they would not help us with anything but Mattress Mack helped us when we needed it and thank you for that blessing the big flood happen

I used to go to Lakewood Church I live 15 minutes from Lakewood Church. I went to Lakewood for 10 years. I sustained and injury 2 years ago, I called Lakewood Church and ask if they helped. They said yes they pick people at random to help. I proceeded to call another 20 times they took my information but not one time did they help me, when they do it unto the least of one of these Jesus said I say they've done it to me!!!! With all the money they have they are not doing the will of God with it, it took this experience to open my eyes to see that they are not the true Shepherd. Flock keep your eyes on Jesus and Jesus alone!!! God's will is to help the poor and I became poor, what's amazing is the other church has helped me and I didn't even attend them, I'm glad God opened my eyes to the truth!!!!!!!!!

How many people did you house in your home during and after the storm? Joel Osteen is a man NOT God. God will judge him and God will judge YOU. It's very easy to judge people but what are you doing? How many people have YOU brought to Christ? How many people have YOU helped? How much money and resources have YOU made available to people? Joel Osteen don't have to do nothing! There's no way around it. He led people to believe the church was not available to provide shelter when it, in fact, was. I live two blocks from Lakewood. I just assumed it would be used as a shelter and was surprised to learn it wasn't (at that point). Then I heard it had flooded and thought that was odd since I live so close and we weren't flooded. I never went down there myself but did see the pictures proving it wasn't actually flooded.
Osteen makes a lot of money off of Houstonians and this isn't the first time him or his wife have shown their true colors. Remember the "Do you know who I am?!" BS that came from his wife a few years back?

brandonisi There is no need to negatively judge this pastor. There was some water issues and probably needed it taken care of before focusing on bringing thousands of people in. He also stated his staff and members were held up getting due to the flooding and you can't very well accommodate people with no one to assist. They were taken in supplies first to have ready and he had ALSO stated in the beginning, working with the city of Houston, that when the CLOSER places of housing were full to capacity they would start bringing them to Osteen's church. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Have you ever been in charge of taking care of a crowd of people needing everything from clothes, food and toiletries and having it ready to dispense when they arrived? If not, then you don't get it.

Maybe some of them. The flood wall is there, built after 2001 when the "lower bowl" (what is that? A run off reservoir basin?) was filled ten feet. You can see in that picture the bowl is empty because of the wall.
I think the bigger picture is he contradicted himself so much and it's dubious that it was not safer than every other place around flooding much worse. He just didn't want any legal liabilities should it flood.

He told three different stories in one interview. He slicker then a can of grease. #1 we were flooded we had to wait to the water went down. #2The shelter down the road had their doors open taking in people. #3 His church flooded in 2001and they put up flood walls. So his church wasn't flooded during Harvey. But they just had to be sure before they open their doors to the church. So Joel just admitted that his church was doing nothing during the first couple of days after Harvey. I heard Joel say in another in view that he gave. That nobody asked him to open his church doors. WTH would anybody have to ask a pastor with a mega church. That can seat 16,000 people have to be asked to help his church members and community. I thought that is what pastors and churches do. Feed offer shelter clothes and comfort. To the less unfortunately. Nobody should have to ask. That should be the God in you to want to do it. He is not a man of the cloth he is a man of the bank a nd his wealth. Him and his family were dry and comfortable in their 10 million dollar home in Texas. You could tsken people into your home Joel. It looks like it was the parking garage flooding. The building wouldn't have walls open to the outside like that. It's a parking garage with a basin, maybe a remnant of the stadium, and a flood wall.
You all have to understand that most of Houston was flooded, including main freeways (which is where Lakewood is) and needed to get to Lakewood. NRG didn't open the first day. Opening a shelter takes a team of people. All of you criticizing, what have you done to help?
