  • For educational use. Optimized for GCEA ukulele. Key of C. The original is in C#, so this is lowered a half step from the original.
    As performed by Charlie Puth.
    There is an existing ukulele play along video ( • One Call Away for Ukul... ) by Dr. A, one of the original creators of this style of play along video, but I wanted to add color string fretboard charts and Color Chord as well.
    Video created on the iPad Pro using Luma Fusion. The ukulele chord font is Chordette for Education, available at ukefarm.com.
    The colored font matches Aquila KIDS and DR Multi-Color ukulele strings.
    This version matches the educational Color Chord approach and uses four chords: C (red sticker), G (green stickers), F (yellow stickers) and Am (blue sticker).
    Are these ukulele resources valuable to you? If so, consider following my blog at ukestuff.info, and becoming a patron at www.patreon.com/cjrphd. There is a master list of all similar play along videos at ukestuff.info.

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  Před 4 lety

      I don't add strumming patterns for a few reasons. First, there is no "right" answer...what works for you is right. When I do post a strumming pattern on a video, I get comments telling me I'm wrong! (True story). Second, these videos are used by groups and schools (which is what they were created for), but also by individuals. Leaders of groups usually want to define their own strumming for a group. Third, when I'm teaching with a video, I want to get my students right into the next song without the delay of how to strum on the video. And finally, on my latest videos (this summer) I started making a tutorial for each video on the CZcams.com/ukestuff channel that shows how to play the chords and strumming (although I'm considering a different approach with the chords).

    Hello! I have a request? 🙂If yes my request is can u pls 🙏do more songs with strumming pattern on the songs?🥺

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  Před 4 lety +3

      I think this is a good time to address why I don’t provide strumming patterns. Most of these songs do not have ukulele in the original version. As a result, there is no “right” strumming pattern. Everything is open to interpretation.
      These play alongs were made for schools first and foremost-and teachers often have their own idea of what/how students should strum.
      And when you use these in a class, you don’t want to be waiting for 5 minutes at the start of each video to get through the strumming pattern instruction. It’s not as easy to fast forward through a video while teaching as you would think!
      In my own case, I just teach basic strumming technique and don’t specify specific patterns, as I want students to develop their own ear for what sounds good. And quite honestly, as long as you are on the beat, things sound good.
      And when I have offered strumming patterns, I am often told that I am wrong (!).
      HOWEVER, the one comment that keeps appearing is “strumming pattern” (not a question, not a sentence, just two words). So in all my new videos, like Maroon 5’s Memories that you commented on, I make a tutorial video that shows chords and strumming.
      I put a link to them in the description, but one honest follower recently told me, “Oh, no one ever reads the description.” So now I’m also putting a statement on the “page” of chords so people can find them!
      So I’ll put a comment in your Maroon 5 comment as well to check the description for a link to my tutorial.
      So, that’s a not so short answer as to why I stay away from strumming patterns in the play along videos themselves.

      ukeplayalongs what about when we are in quarantine? What do we do then?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  Před 4 lety +2

      That's where you start to trust your own ears and play along and see what sounds good to you. In 4/4 time, there are only so many variations of how you can strum. Everything, even "chucking/chunking" is still based off DUDUDUDU. What changes is where you "miss" the strings, and how you hit the strings.
      As long as you keep the beat, you're good.
      I know that some people have been taught there is a "right" pattern...and I wish those people were my student, because I put an emphasis on strumming with the beat and strumming in the right place on the ukulele, and I rarely talk about specific strumming patterns. But I get that saying "don't worry about it so much" is impossible for some people. So for new songs, I take the time to record a tutorial video that offers strumming suggestions...and in fact, that tutorial keeps me from making more play alongs (It takes longer to film and edit those than to make two complete play alongs in 3 versions). You can find those at CZcams.com/ukestuff
