    Hi, after a lot of struggling trying to get the tension spring back on to the rubber seal as per video instructions, we took the top off the washing machine and found it a hell of a lot easier. No wonder they didn't show the way they said it's virtually impossible. Even Mr Strong would have a problem with that. It literally took 2 minutes to take off the top pull the spring round and put it all back together.
    We think the video should be updated showing the simpler way to do it!!

    Not editing out the hardest bit (putting on the tension spring) would have really helped.

    This took a lot longer than expected, as 3 key steps were needed for me: 1) The rubber seal is impossible to mount without a lot of lubrication -- I used plumbers grease; 2) Even then it's difficult to get into place without more angles to wiggle & press it, so I partially removed the front of the washer; 3) replacing the tension spring is a massive chore for one person. I finally got it done with the help of several screw/bit drivers of strategic length, plus a pair of bike tire levers that were about perfect for shoving the spring back into place and holding it there. Note that this step is impossible until all the efforts are completed to fully seat the seal in #2.

    I have an Electrolux and everything worked for me just as shown in the video, I didn't even have to remove the door. The tension spring was a bit tough, but with the assistance of my flatmate I got it where it belongs in less than 5 minutes, so removing the top would not be that much of a help. It definitely depends on the make.

  • @eSpares
    @eSpares  Před 14 lety

    @superscotman Washer/Dryers are indeed statistically more likely to break down that separate appliances. Simply doing the job of two machines will do that. There is a great article on-line by Which, that discusses it in detail. However you'll have to Google it as CZcams won't let you put links in comments. :)

  • @eSpares
    @eSpares  Před 15 lety

    Hello, well spotted! The entire removing/replacement process took over 40 minutes from start to finish. In order to keep the video to a watchable length some bits were cut out. The spring was placed back over the internal part of the seal (once in place) to hold it fast using 2 pairs of hands. Lots of arms, and not much to see, meant this bit got the chop, sorry about that.

  • @bikeyspice
    @bikeyspice Před 6 lety +2

    That spring is an absolute pig to get on. I eventually took the top off, which is only a 2 minute job, to give me more visibility. I placed about 6 inches of the spring in place at the top then wedged it tight by shoving in a small piece of wood (2 inch section of garden trellis) This allowed me to use both hands the gradually work the rest of the spring into place. You can also add more bits of wood at the 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions as you progress. Take care to keep stretching the spring as you go, otherwise you run out of elasticity when you get to the end

    Hi, thanks for sharing this! I have a very similar model to the one in the video (AEG Lavamat Turbo L11842 VIT), however the air vent is much longer and is held up higher in the machine. Would you have any tips on how to proceed to remove it and how to fit the new vent?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  Před 9 lety

      Hi Rob, On some machines it can be easier to either remove the front panel for better access or to remove or loosen the heater tunnel to allow manipulation of the seal onto the duct.

  • @ycooreman
    @ycooreman Před 13 lety

    LUBE!!!! My dad and I replaced the seal on a Lavamat 16810. It was a horrible experience but it's possible. Trick is to use a lube (we used soap) on the back of the seal. Push the back of the seal in place first. The lube will allow you to push it in in big sweeps around the back rim (may need two people). You need two people to wrap the elastic band around the back rim. Do the water supply and air vent next then the front of the seal. It's easier working when the machine is on its back.

  • @paullakra
    @paullakra Před 4 lety

    AEG L14850 Washer Dryer. On this model the door porthole is too small to get at the inner parts. You have to take the top off and then the front. There is a video from two guys who strip down a similar model. Search on AEG Lavamat strip down. This is quite a big job. Took me a good 4h and I had all the tools. You will need a T45 torx bit. I would expect a failed door seal on this model will make it a write off if you cannot do it yourself.

  • @harrytheharris
    @harrytheharris Před 11 lety +2

    Just a warning: if you have a machine like the one in the video, DO NOT FOLLOW THE LINK TO THE IMPROVED VIDEO! Because that tells you to take off the front casing. A brilliant idea - except that you can't do that with AEG washer-dryers! I spent a whole day trying, and was really not happy when I found out.
    What helps is to take off the top, and remove the front section of dryer duct (two screws on top, a bolt at the front, and the Earth wire bolt). Now you can see the seal from the top as well.

    This the way I did it today (Sun 02/03/2014) on AEG 16800 PROD# 91460151301
    First no need to touch the door. Remove front plastic retaining band from the seal, then the wire and clip from air vent and pipe, then pull seal hard to remove second spring band. Remove the top of the machine, unscrew the air vent duct (2 screws + 1 earth cable), remove the plug; unscrew the 7mm screw holding the air vent duct to the door, then pull air duct from the top. Now lay down the machine on it's back, use washing up liquid on the new seal lip and push it in, secure it with spring band, stand machine up again, re-install air vent duct back, pop the wire and clip on air vent side of the seal, then feed it in. Push in outer lip of seal in and secure with plastic retaining band to the door. install the top back. It took me 50min with helping hand. The machine is up and running. B-)

    This is not an easy job. The video is a gross over simplification. You MUST take off the top and the front panel. Both quite easy. The knack is to get the back flange of the rubber seal located into the groove n the fixed drum. You have to spread it and locate it with your finger and thumb. It will slot behind the lip and you can do it single handed. Once located it stays there. You must have two pairs of hands to stretch the spring into the groove. I struggled for 2 hours but once I'd cracked it it was easy. You also need help to locate the front wire. My AEG machine is 2008. Post 2012 you have to take the concrete block off too. Good luck!
