    My father has just been diagnosed with a 5/7cm mass in his left lung, due to his age (80's) and frailty the doctors have diagnosed him 90% with malignancy without any tests n have given him afew weeks prognosis just by listening about his symptoms... It is been such an up setting, stressful few weeks...Doctors have left us as a family without any information or any support in regards to the next steps...We literally had to fight n get equipment and meds in place...So what do you do when your loved one has been left to die on your own???

    LOVE hearing you don't make patients wait months. Didn't hear it mentioned how long it takes to determine what type? I'm guessing that is more likely relevant to how fast it grows in the time between scans or if concern of mestasis via CT or PET that found it. Is Bronchoscopy safer over CT guided biopsy for COPD/Emphesema patients? On Upper Lobe subpleural nodules is bronchoscopy something that can be done? How large must a nodule be for bronchoscopy?

    Hello thanks for this video. My son (30) just found out he have a 3cm mass in his lower lung. He is healthy and I think he smoked casual before once in a while. He does have mold in his house and I had a concern about the mold. He also had a car accident 10 years ago and he hit that area with sterring wheel. We are nervous and worry. I read that 3cm it's bad. Please help me calm and calm him. And I don't know what to do or what to ask the doctor for best of him.

      How's your Son doing now? Hope he's fine

    • @iluminameluna
      @iluminameluna Před rokem +2

      I hope he's ok. And so you know, 3 cm isn't bad, but more importantly, it's not so much the size but whether it grows, and how fast, and whether he's had cancer before, or he's at a high risk of having cancer because of where he lives or perhaps the work he does. Another risk is whether it's something that runs in his family, are there other members of his family with cancer of the lung, or any other cancers? Just being a smoker or living with smokers isn't even enough, strangely.
      I have 2 nodules, one is just over 3cm, and the other 7.4cm (that's over 2 1/2 inches across). Both have doubled in size in the last 6 years and I'm told they're still at low risk of them being cancer even with my having the systemic type of lupus for over 30 years.
      For most nodules, Drs have a wait-and-see attitude, and that's a GOOD thing. You really DON'T want them cutting into your lungs for every little shadow they find. The lungs are like real sponges, and if they get opened up and cut, they form scar tissue, and scar tissue can't fill up with wonderful AIR! And that's what lungs DO: all those tissues are full of HOLES that fill up with AIR that's full of oxygen that keeps us alive. The LAST thing you want is for some scalpel, made up of whatever it is, to start cutting into all that tissue and creating tough scar tissue that can't stretch to absorb AIR. So, NO to imagining that every time Drs see a nodule they're going to go in and cut it out. NO!

    I wish we knew where on the blood test would show the percentage of chance of natural being cancer cause I just had a blood test done doesn't show too much?

    • @iluminameluna
      @iluminameluna Před rokem

      There are 2, or 3 of them, the C reactive proteins. They are present in the blood if there's a problem with certain organs, or muscle groups, as I understand it. I have Lupus and I have some liver damage but my Drs can't agree if it's from all the meds I take or from my Lupus. It shows up as C3 positive, but elevated (can't think of the # right now). So the proteins will be present in your blood but they won't necessarily prove you have cancer, just that there's something going on with THAT kind of muscle. Your Dr will then have at least a clue of where to go looking.
      Good luck!

      Hi, I am in the same situation. A Nodule was found when I was being screened for back surgery. The difference between a mass and a nodule is the size. 3cm and above is a mass. 3cm and smaller is a nodule. Mine is 5mm and it’s calcified, which usually means it’s not cancer. But they still want me to do a PET scan. I think that’s d/t my age. Hope all goes well with you. 😊

I will be having a CT needle biopsy this week. The lung nodule has been the same size for 4 years. Is it a possibility that the fever returning or it could be cancerous.

    I just got my annual CT lung scan results, & I have a 4.8 cm. mass in my upper left lung, w/ hazy adjacent parenchynal opacity: New, & scattered calcified granuloma. My Dr. says that it doesn't look like cancer, & that they'll rescan in 6 mths. Ummm, I don't want to just wait & do nothing! I smoked cigs for over 35 yrs. & switched to vaping a few yrs. ago, & I'm 52. Emphysema was 'moderate' in last yrs scan, & this yr. says 'None' now, hmmm, I didn't know that it could go away, but yayyy for that part. There were 2 smaller nodules, one in each lung, (0.2 cm in lower right, 0.1 in lower left, calcified) that went away as well. But now this 4.8 cm is considered a mass, & I'm terrified! I want to get a Bronchoscopy asap!

      Only if they grow. If they take scans and they're the same size from one year to the next, you're fine. Even with R.A. I have Lupus and have only recently discovered some nodules that have grown. It was purely by accident. And both doubled in size in 6 yrs. I'm not worried particularly because I suffer from frequent sinus infections and have had a cough that sounds like I'm about to cough up a lung. And no, I don't smoke or vape. No one around me does either. Just frequent sinus infections, and allergies. LOTS of allergies. So who knows?
