  • My review of the MOLLE II Medium rucksack. A very robust pack that would be a great choice for a Bug Out Bag or as an everyday pack for back packing.

    This is the best rucksack I was ever issued. When I first came in I had the old olive drab ruck, then the first molle ACU ruck, and then the newest molle multicam ruck. I was also issued the molle medium ruck. It is the easiest to assemble and disassemble for cleaning. It has more room than the Army assault pack but no t so damn big and cumbersome as the full size rucks. It's perfect for patrols, backpacking, camping, etc. It is also extremely rugged as mentioned in the video. Mine has been through a year of combat in the Afghan mountains. Still holding together.

      Park James They have to be returned. Just like elbow pads, knee pads, sleeping system, the FLC and such. I like this rucksack so much I bought one for myself for when I get out. One thing they will never get is my woobies.

    Thank you for the clear documentation. Just bought one. I have a ILBE but it too big for most camping expeditions. This looks great for a weekend overnights into the forests. All military gear is 10x better then anything from Northface. While a little heavier it was built to last extreme conditions.

    My medium molle just arrived in the mail to replace my cheapo walmart hunting backpack. This thing is perfect for weekend camping. The medium is a perfect size, with a lot of versatility with the webbing. Just waiting on my sustainment pouch for food storage on the side. It is a good idea to keep your food separate from your bag to reduce scent. Nothing is more annoying than noticing chew holes from mice the next morning. The sust pouch doubles as a bear bag for the damn trash pandas too.

    like you say, man, sturdy and built to last. There are plenty of better "3 day/72 our rucks I would choose before this but this is a good choice for the standard $60. My favorite rucks are the USMC ILBE with APB03 assault pack attached for my "carry everything I can ruck, and the 511 Rush 72 , Condor Advanced 3 day combat pack ( mine is customized ), and the LAPG Atlas 72 for grab and go. I would conFidEntly go into combat with t his ruck and a good plate carrier/chest rig. Thanks for showing all the insides, most reviews don't do that, so you've got a new sub ;)

    My fist Alice pack was 1971 issue and still love the old alice . Found a Molle 2 unused in new condition for $20 measly bucks at a flea market in desert cammo 5 years ago . It got dyed forest green yesterday and looks great . It has the Velcro outlets for the hydration system , but not the center outlet for a radio . I have heard the issue waist pack can be attached to the bottom of the Molle 2 . Working on it .
    A $130 Maxpedition is not near as good as a Molle 2 .

    Thanks very much for your effort in this thorough walkthru of the medium ruck. Just recently upgraded from the frameless assault pack I was outgrowing. It's been driving me crazy tryin to figure out what's the purpose of the round harness in the upper main compartment. Great suggestion on using it for a cook kit. Gonna see how muh l'il Zebra Billy Pot fits innit! The extra room of the medium is nice this time of year with the varying temps and associated clothes layering. Gonna be lookin for a waist belt with mo' molle if this works out.

    I’ve since heavily modified my MOLLE 2 assault pack by sewing one inch webbing in a tic-tac-toe pattern on the bottom to increase the sturdyness of the pack. I also put on a padded waistbelt and sewing a thicker padding onto the existing shoulder straps. And I mounted a MOLLE 2 butt pack on the bottom. And some other small modifications. And also am I crazy, or is the audio slightly delayed?

    it looks very cool and durable. like the frame and the hip belt. I think it would be very sturdy to load gears in it. one thing I don't like about this pack is that it doesn't have any compression straps whatsoever. how could you compress the load closer to your back? thats one of the basics of backpacking, huh? you can't fill up your pack to the full all the time. especially when you're carrying military radioes and ammo, compression ability of the pack will be vital, I think. how do you think, sir? I wanna hear from someone actually using it.

    • @kjumper1
      @kjumper1  Před 7 lety +2

      TBH I have filled it part of the and I didn't notice any problems whatsoever. I do agree with you about having compression straps, but with the material being a bit thicker it doesn't really flop around like a half filled civilian style pack.

      Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. At the beginning of wwii, the Marines used the same haversack as the army. They ended up developing their own combat pack during the war. When the alice gear came out, both services adopted it, same with the original molle packs. Around 04, when the Marines adopted marpat, they went to the ilbe and have had different pack systems since

    Hello from Russia, what is the weight of the frame itself?

    • @cthulhu6697
      @cthulhu6697 Před 3 lety

      Those old coyote tan frames were made of a flimsy plastic and prone to breakage. They were upgraded and improved with some heavier duty gray kinds ( I've also seen them in black ). I'm not sure of the weight of the medium frames, but I have the large with the upgraded frame and that large ruck, with frame, shoulder harness assembly, waist belt, sternum belt, and 2 of those big 500 cubic inch sustainment pouches ( which are part of the MOLLE 2 large ruck package ) weighs 10 pounds before you put anything in the ruck. That sounds like a lot, but the shoulder harness, big padded waist belt, and the way the whole thing is designed distributes weight very nicely, so good that, even with 90 and more pounds of gear in there, it doesn't feel like you are carrying as much as you are ( I've done it, with a fucked up knee, plus the added weight of a chest rig/tac vest, weapons, ammo, etc......., and it's pretty comfortable, even hiking several miles into thick woods in mountainous terrain )
